Spanish Coast Ibiza Madrid

June 8, 2015 by David Herd

Ibiza

Spanish Coast Ibiza Madrid

Spanish Coast Ibiza Madrid

Spanish Coast Ibiza Madrid was a shock to me when I returned after 36 years since my last visit. I couldn’t believe the number of condominiums along the Costa Brava.

Please forgive the photo quality, my 1.2 mega pixel Canon was my first ancient digital camera.

Ibiza beach

Spanish Coast Ibiza Madrid

It was the off season in April so the people were few and far between, consequently I thought Ibiza was fairly overrated.

Valencia

 Spanish Coast Ibiza Madrid

This trip was part of an around the world journey starting in Bangkok before moving to Spain then on to Venezuela, Cuba and Los Angeles.

David herd in Valencia

  Spanish Coast Ibiza Madrid

Valencia was founded as a Roman colony in 138 BC. The city is situated on the banks of the Turia, on the east coast of the Iberian Peninsula, fronting the Gulf of Valencia on the Mediterranean Sea. Its historic centre is one of the largest in Spain.

Better shot of the same place.

Spanish Coast Ibiza Madrid

Found this on my friends Jean-Paul Facebook page.

Benidorm, we hated it. 🙂

Spanish Coast Ibiza Madrid

I think the average age of the English and German tourists was mid 70s, there were walking frames everywhere. We went to a couple of bars and restaurants that were copies of similar places in Blackpool.

Cold beers in Benidorm

Spanish Coast Ibiza Madrid

I was travelling with Les who was a friend from the Gold Coast.

El Campella near Alicante

Spanish Coast Ibiza Madrid

Revisiting this seaside village was full of nostalgia for me. I had great memories from way back in the late 60s when I was travelling around Europe in a VW Kombi with 2 Kiwi guys. Campella was one of our favourite places where we ate Paellas and washed them down with gallons of Sangria. In those days the men would go fishing off the African coast and the women would sit on the beach making and repairing the huge fishing nets. It was a different world then.

This was 1965

Spanish Coast Ibiza Madrid

This was Rosemary & Mary, two American girls we met in Campella all those years ago. 🙂

Here are the 2 kiwi guys

Spanish Coast Ibiza Madrid

Keith Wagstaff & Dick, the photo was taker in Konstanz in Switzerland.

 Deja vu

Spanish Coast Ibiza Madrid

So here I am again 36 years later eating Paella and drinking red wine, the more things change the more they stay the same.

La Manga

Spanish Coast Ibiza Madrid

We stayed one night in La Manga, who knows why? Certainly nothing to write about here.

On to Madrid for a little history

Spanish Coast Ibiza Madrid

It was nice to leave behind the walking frames and pommies (Englishmen) drinking pints and singing songs from WW2.

Madrid

Spanish Coast Ibiza Madrid

I really need to visit Madrid again one day.

Palace Hotel

Spanish Coast Ibiza Madrid

Thanks for visiting my very ordinary post  on Spanish Coast Ibiza Madrid with poor quality photos, please have a look at some better efforts in the section below.

Prague capital Czech Republic

May 17, 2015 by David Herd

Buskers

Prague capital Czech Republic

Prague capital Czech Republic

Prague capital Czech Republic, in 1993 I travelled by train through unspoiled mountainous landscape from Berlin to this fascinating eastern European city.

Wenceslas Square

Prague capital Czech Republic

Many historical events occurred there, and it is a traditional setting for demonstrations, celebrations, and other public gatherings. I borrowed this photo from Wikipedia, there was no blue sky when I was there. 🙂

It was very cold

Prague capital Czech Republic

It was February or March and very cold, here I am outside Outside St. Vitus Cathedral.

Vaclev at the Clock Tower of Loreta

Prague capital Czech Republic

At the Prague railway station I was approached by a well dressed elderly man asking if I had accommodation. He took me to his home where he and his wife rented a couple of rooms. It was a lucky break for me, the room was comfortable and cheap ($23 aud) with an excellent breakfast. Vaclev was a university professor and told me a lot about the history of Prague. On his day off he kindly gave me a tour of this wonderful city which was extremely kind of him.

Freezing actually. 🙂

Crossing the Charles Bridge

The historic bridge that crosses the Vltava river in Prague, Czech Republic. Its construction started in 1357 under the auspices of King Charles IV, and finished in the beginning of the 15th century.

Lunch with Oliver

Prague capital Czech Republic

Oliver is a good friend of Andre Buzek (the crazy dentist) who was also from Prague. We spent some time together drinking beer and discussing Andre’s crazy antics. 🙂

Here’s cheers Oliver, nice to meet you.

Prague capital Czech Republic

Sadly our friend Andre lost his life in a car accident in Cub a, RIP.

Prague capital Czech Republic

Prague capital Czech Republic

Prague 1993 and McDonald’s had already arrived.

A lasting memory

Prague capital Czech Republic

It was quite late one evening and I was the only one in the Old Town square. Suddenly I was hearing trumpets playing in the deserted snow covered square in the heart of Prague. It was a fantastic mystical moment I will never forget. I borrowed the above photo from Wikipedia.

In the fourteenth century the city built around the Prague Castle expanded to the right bank. The history of the square goes back even further: as early as in 1091 a market existed at the site of the Old Town Square.

I hope to visit again one day.

Prague capital Czech Republic

My apologies for the quality of the photos, they will certainly improve on my next visit.

Bangkok Samui sexy babes

May 3, 2015 by David Herd

This is not a travel blog just a personal photo collection from 2000.

Bangkok Samui sexy babes

Bangkok Samui sexy babes

Bangkok Samui sexy babes in the year 2000. I spent New Years Eve two years in a row, 1999 in Samui for the millennium & in Pattaya NYE 2000. The millennium was special for me due to a brief romance with the Italian princess pictured above. He name in Barbara Manelli and she was hot, hot, hot. 🙂

This it not part of my travel blog, just part of my personal photo & travel history from 2000.

Thailand New Years Eve

Bangkok Samui sexy babes

Thailand New Years Eve This is how Chaweng beach looked early New Years Eve 1999, in fact my friends and I had dinner right there on the beach. The photo quality is terrible due to the early days of digital cameras.

New Years Eve 1999

Bangkok Samui sexy babes

It was a terrific night on the beach even though my whirlwind romance with Barbara aka Gypsy was over by then.

Barbara Manelli aka Gypsy.

Bangkok Samui sexy babes

Oh my! She was one of the sexiest most gorgeous ladies I have ever had the pleasure to be with. The affair didn’t last much more than a week but the memories will stay with me forever.

Be patient we will move on shortly. 🙂

Bangkok Samui sexy babes   Bangkok Samui sexy babes

The romance was short but sweet. 🙂

Even now in 2015 I still occasionally think of her with affection.

The Relax Resort Chaweng Beach Samui

I stayed at the Relax Bungalows a few times and found them very comfortable on a quiet section of the beach. Still very cheap if you book through Agoda, between $50 and $60 per night.

Sadly that beach hut is no longer there.

Dr Evil and his two favourite ladies, Jane & Gypsy. In fact Jane was with me in Koh Samui in August 1999 when I first met Barbara.

My special three pack.

Bangkok Samui sexy babes

This is a special photo, only 6 or 7 times in my life have I been able to get 3 girlfriends in the one photo, priceless.

That’s Thailand for you, sometimes things can be very confusing.  Of course one of the boys is Pothole aka John Martin, and he doesn’t care which one he winds up with. 🙂

Two Thailand trips 2002

May 1, 2015 by David Herd

This it not part of my travel blog, just my personal photo & travel history from 2002.

Two Thailand trips

Two Thailand trips

Two Thailand trips in 2002, by my standards it was a very quiet year for travel. Shanghai & Beijing however gave me a great introduction to China. Digital cameras were in their early stages so the photo quality is very average indeed.

The photo above shows the team in Bangkok celebrating John Sinclair turning 60. From the left is John Martin aka Pothole, Michael Dowd, John Sinclair, Apple Pie, David Herd and Tony Murphy.

Happy birthday John

Two Thailand trips

Birthdays seem to roll around so fast the older you get.

That is a super smile.

This really needs no caption.

  Two Thailand trips

You gotta love Thailand.

Hit the road Jack

Two Thailand trips

John Sinclair and Bruce Donnachie outside the Office in Soi 33, it is a terrific sports bar with lots of TVs and good looking staff.

Phung, aka Cleopatra

Two Thailand trips

My favourite Nana Plaza girl, we met last year in 2001 and hooked up with each other for quite a few years until about 2009. I believe she found a sponsor and is living in Europe now.

The Bus Stop in Soi 4 Nana

Two Thailand trips

Mike Dowd, David Herd, Pothole Martin and John Sinclair. Once again I’m so disappointed with the photo quality, early days of digital cameras. This was actually AFL grand final day 2002 when Brisbane Lions beat Collingwood.

The Office in Soi 33.

Two Thailand trips

Even now in 2015 the Office sports bar in Soi 33 is still open.

Pothole Bin Ladin and Apple Pie.

    Two Thailand trips

Our regular village idiot with his new girl. When things became serious we were not allowed to call her Apple anymore, Champen was her name. 🙂   I really have to relay this funny story, Pothole took Apple to Australia a couple of times and they planned to marry. At that time in 2003 little did he realize she was actively managing 4 or 5 other suitors from Europe and America. He only discovered the truth much later after cracking into her Hotmail account.

Anyhow Pothole actually used some common sense (most unusual for him) and presented Apple with a pre nuptial agreement for her signature. Her assets were about $16,000 worth of jewellery that he had given her, his were way in excess of $1,000,000. This all happened on a Thursday night, then Friday he came home early from work to discover her jewellery laid out on the bed alongside a suicide note.   I think I already mentioned that he was known as the village idiot, and in keeping with this image he raced up to North Sydney police station distraught and weeping, and pleaded with the local cops to help him find her. They came to his apartment, took photographs and asked many questions.

He called me during the day totally distressed and I gave him the following advice, I said “pack all her clothes etc in her suitcase, leave it outside the door and get your locks changed. Naturally my advice didn’t go down all that well. Much later that evening who should turn up all bright and bubbly, you guessed it, Apple Pie, aka Champen. 🙂   He of course forgave her and took her back, even after finding out she was in fact having a long lunch (and who knows what else?) with a friend of his.

Two things about Apple however, she was the best Thai cook I have ever seen, secondly she finally moved to England, married an ex cop and had a lovely daughter. The husband was awarded an MBE or similar around 2013 and Apple rolled up at the Palace with him when he received his award. Not a bad ending for a chick from Nana Plaza. 🙂

As I said previously, Pothole is known by many as “the village idiot”, but he is our village idiot and he has provided us with a huge amount of entertainment over the years. His final piece of stupidity in the above “Apple Pie” saga was showing her my texts and relaying the advice I gave him to her, consequently I had abusive phone calls from Apple indicating I was the villain in the whole fiasco. That’s our Pothole for you. 🙂

 Master chef 2003

Two Thailand trips

This girl could really cook Thai food. What a difference in photo quality in just one year.

From 2003

David Herd unforgettable year

Sue on the right was one of my girlfriends from Shanghai, I took her to Sydney for a weekend. The other girl is Apple.

Bee from Bangkok on her 21st birthday.

Two Thailand trips

Another funny story, I was drinking in the Big Dog bar in Nana plaza when this gorgeous little girl rolled up about 8pm to the hamburger stand in her pyjamas and slippers. She looked so cute I went and spoke to her, well to cut a long story short the next night we got together for her 21st birthday, you gotta love Thailand.

You saw Bee, well here is Beer. 🙂

  Two Thailand trips

Beer was a dancer at Rainbow 3 in Nana Plaza and a girl with a terrific personality.

Na was one of my favourite girls.

Two Thailand trips

Another funny story, as you can see I met Na in a beauty salon in Soi 22 when she was giving me a pedicure. For a couple of years every time I came to Bangkok we would get together. Mostly she would arrive at my hotel around midnight after she finished work.

Lovely Na

    Two Thailand trips

Things were fine for a long time until one day she said to me “I can’t see you any more David”. I was very surprised and asked her “why not, have you found another boyfriend”? She said “no, I have found a girlfriend”. Looking back I guess this was a “George Costanza” moment, I had driven a girl to lesbianism. 🙂

John settles Murphy’s debt

Two Thailand trips

Luk closed her shop for 10 days to look after one of our friends. When he left to go back to Australia he completely forgot to leave her any money (on purpose I might add). John Sinclair being the gentleman he is made sure she had enough to cover her expenses.

The result

Two Thailand trips

Luk is a lot happier now.

Two Thailand trips 2006.

Two Thailand trips

As I am so disappointed in the photo quality I have jumped forward to 2006 to show better shots of my favourite Bangkok girl Cleo.

Three Fabulous Thailand trips 2003

April 29, 2015 by David Herd

Atlantic Bar Pattaya

Three Fabulous Thailand trips

Three Fabulous Thailand trips

Three Fabulous Thailand trips 2003, in fact the whole year was frantic, not sure how I survived, it was one of the busiest & best years for travel that I have ever experienced. I went to Vietnam twice in January & April, Thailand in April & July, then around the world in November starting in Chile, then on to Rio De Janeiro in Brazil, Barcelona & Bangkok on the way home to Australia.

Low tide at Pattaya beach

Three Fabulous Thailand trips

The skyline has changed a lot since 2003, now in 2015 there is a building boom in condominiums and hotels.

Golf at Phoenix with John and Andy

Three Fabulous Thailand trips

Andy got tied up with a Thai girl who relieved him of his one million GBP inheritance.

Surrounded by caddies at Phoenix.

Three Fabulous Thailand trips

Now this is the way to play golf. 🙂

Marta was a pole dancer from Prague

Three Fabulous Thailand trips

Marta was quite a wild Russian girl, I chatted to her on Walking St and invited her to join us at Cosy Beach. We had a great day culminating in an even better night. 🙂

The rear view

Three Fabulous Thailand trips

Here is Marta again at my hotel, the Sunshine Vista in Soi 3. There are more photos in the slide show at the end, I can’t show them in this part of the post as Photobucket censor any bare boobs. 🙂

John Martin aka Pothole at the Sunshine Vista

Three Fabulous Thailand trips

Certainly one of the craziest people I know. He moved to Pattaya a year or two after this, grabbed a girl off the pole and produced two children with her.

John Sinclair, Sinclair Waters (RIP) and Bob Dark.

Sinclair is famous for adding people to his “black list”, after a couple years of being in favor in 2016 he put me back on it. 🙂

Three Fabulous Thailand trips

Here is a typical Thai story, I invited Ja in the yellow to lunch, she worked in the phone section of Big C. However unbeknownst to me she then invited 4 of her friends to come and enjoy a free lunch at my expense. 🙂 This is quite normal in Thailand and it’s not the first, and won’t be the last time I have been caught.

Always lots to see in Chinatown.

Chinatown is a “must see” part of Bangkok, another good look into the past is “Jim Thompson” house. I also love taking a cruise on a long tail boat along the mighty Chao Phraya river. Make sure to stop off at Wat Arun, “The Temple of Dawn”.

Here is an amazing sight in Chinatown.

Here is a coincidence for you, I published this post two days ago on April 30 2015, then last night on May 1st I ran into Nok who is back working at the Atlantic. Her theme song should really be “All my life’s a circle”.:)

Tropical storm floods Pattaya

Tropical storm floods Pattaya

Tropical storm floods Pattaya

Tropical storm floods Pattaya, when it rains it really pours down. I love to see the storm clouds roaring across Pattaya bay from my condo. You can can also watch from anywhere in the world on my webcam.

Here it comes

Tropical storm floods Pattaya

John Fogerty has a question….

I really love watching the black clouds roll in over the bay.

Is this a road or a river?

Tropical storm floods Pattaya

Looks more like a river to me. 🙂

Oh oh! This does not look good.

Tropical storm floods Pattaya

The roads flood so quickly as the drains just can’t handle the incredible volume of water. Often these storms only last for 30 or 40 minutes however that’s enough time to cause havoc.

LadyBoy in distress.

This LadyBoy looks a little concerned.

Houston, we have a problem

Hmmm what do I do now?

You see a lot of this during the storms.

No problem for the Baht bus.

They won’t all make it

Believe me, not all these vehicles will get through.

Help is on the way

The result

Tropical storm floods Pattaya

The beach gets smashed time and time again throughout the year this is the result.

Gutters can’t handle the volume

Tropical storm floods Pattaya

I don’t think there is any drainage system that can handle the sheer volume of storm water.

Repairs are needed

Sadly this in an all too familiar sight on Pattaya beach.

Crazy idea

Tropical storm floods Pattaya

Here are 3 pumps to take the water from the flooded road onto the beach, don’t ask me to describe the logic behind this crazy idea. It simply washes away the sand as you can see in the above photos. One thing I do know however, logic and common sense are thin on the ground in Thailand.

The boys in Bangkok

One night Bangkok, never enough

One night Bangkok, never enough

One night Bangkok, never enough, plus one night Bangkok makes a hard man humble, Not much between despair and ecstasy, One night in Bangkok and the tough guys tumble, Can’t be too careful with your company, I can feel the devil walking next to me.

We have all heard the song and some of us have been lucky enough to live the dream. 🙂

The photo above is at Nana Plaza with Greg Clee, John Sinclair and Sean Fenton, all Aussies who love Thailand.

This it not part of my travel blog, just part of my personal history from 2007.

One Night in Bangkok - Murray Head (HQ Audio)

“One night in Bangkok and the world’s your oyster
The bars are temples but their pearls ain’t free
You’ll find a god in every golden cloister
And if you’re lucky, then the god’s a she
I can feel an angel sliding up to me”

One night Bangkok, never enough

One night Bangkok, never enough

Say no more…….

Khaosan Road

One night Bangkok, never enough

“Khaosan” translates as “milled rice”, a reminder that in former times the street was a major Bangkok rice market. In the last 20 years, however, Khaosan Road has developed into a world famous “backpacker ghetto”. It offers cheap accommodation, ranging from “mattress in a box” style hotels to reasonably priced 3-star hotels. In an essay on the backpacker culture of Khaosan Road,

Khaosan Road cafe

One night Bangkok, never enough

There are several pubs and bars where backpackers meet to discuss their travels. The area is internationally known as a centre of dancing, partying, and just prior to the traditional Thai New Year (Songkran festival) of 13-15 April, water splashing that usually turns into a huge water fight. One Thai writer has described Khaosan as “…a short road that has the longest dream in the world”.

 What a beautiful face.

One night Bangkok, never enough

A pedicure in Bangkok is an absolute please when done by such a beautiful girl.

Long tail boat

One night Bangkok, never enough

The craft is designed to carry passengers on a river & may include a lightweight long canoe hull, up to 30 meters long, and a canopy. There is a great variation among these boats, some have evolved from traditional craft types, while others have a more improvised look, the sole defining characteristic is a second-hand car or truck engine.

Ok, lets go yo Pattaya

Dubrovnik medieval Croatian city

March 12, 2015 by David Herd

The Pile gate to Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik medieval Croatian city

Dubrovnik medieval Croatian city

Dubrovnik medieval Croatian city, first impression certainly lived up to it’s reputation. It’s no wonder it is one of the most popular European destinations. This is the 3rd Croatian city I have visited starting with Zagreb then onto Split before taking a 5 hour bus trip down the coast to Dubrovnik.

Neum in Bosnia

Dubrovnik medieval Croatian city

Just north of Dubrovnik you have to cross the Bosnian border at Neum. They check your passport going in and going out.

Just inside the Pile Gate

Dubrovnik medieval Croatian city

Here is the first thing you see when you enter the city through the Pile Gate.

Lots of bars and restaurants

Dubrovnik medieval Croatian city

There is a big choice of places to eat and drink in Dubrovnik, being the low season they are all screaming for customers.

Dubrovnik medieval Croatian city has amazing stone walls.

Dubrovnik medieval Croatian city

I walked right around the entire city on top of the walls which costs about $20 and is well worth it. It really gives you a sense of this majestic city.  Dubrovnik’s Old Town is completely surrounded by enormous stone walls that date back to the 10th century. Up to 6m (19ft) thick and 2.5m (8ft) high in places, Dubrovnik’s Ancient City Walls were built to protect the city and deter would-be invaders. You can walk along the entire (2km/1.2mi) length of the ancient walls today and it is one of the best ways to appreciate the majesty of the Old Town plus get some great views over the Adriatic sea.

There are 2 towers and 2 forts incorporated into the walls that were built and strengthened in the 15th century to bolster the city’s defenses. The Minceta Tower protects the city’s northern edge; the Bokar Tower protects Pile Gate (the city’s main entrance); Lovrjenac Fort protects the west, and the Revelin Fort protects the eastern entrance.

The harbour

The walk started at the harbor end of the city an continued anti-clockwise taking about 90 minutes to finish.

This is a great way to explore Dubrovnik medieval Croatian city.

Many wonderful views from the top of the wall.

The rounded Minceta Tower where the walls are 6m thick, the better to protect Dubrovnik from attacks by land.

Minceta Tower

The tower was built in 1464 and was once used to store water. It was named after the Mencetic family who probably contributed financial support to its construction.

Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik medieval Croatian city

I would have to say Dubrovnik is one of the best cities I have ever visited.

Sunbathing

She found a nice spot out out of the wind and started working on her tan. Trust me the wind was quite cold that day. 🙂

The knight carved in the column is Orlando. According legend in the 9th century Orlando and his fleet saved Dubrovnik from a 15 month long Saracen siege.

Marc van Bloemen owner of Karmen apartments

Dubrovnik medieval Croatian cityMarc is a friendly Englishman who will point you in the right direction for restaurants and has a great knowledge of Dubrovniks history. Dubrovnik was significantly affected by the break-up of Yugoslavia. In the early 90s, Greater Serb aggression resulted in Dubrovnik suffering its most serious existential threat. Over two thirds of the historic town’s buildings were hit by artillery. The town’s cobbled streets were struck by hundreds of direct hits. For the first time in history, the medieval city walls themselves received over a hundred direct hits. Many historic palaces were badly damaged by the resulting fires. The renowned Sponza and Rector’s palace, St Blaise’s church, the Franciscan monastery and the Amerling and Onofrio fountain all suffered severely. The total reconstruction cost was said to be some $ 10 million.

The soldiers come to town for a movie.

Shooting a movie can be very tiring so naturally a soldier needs to relax in the shade. 🙂

Breathtaking Dubrovnik

I took the cable car to the mountain top and saw this wonderful view of Dubrovnik medieval Croatian city.

Crisis in Dubrovnik
Marc van Bloemen has lived in the old town of Dubrovnik, a Croatian citadel widely praised as the jewel of the Adriatic, for decades, since he was a child. He says it used to be a privilege. Now it’s a nightmare.

Crowds of tourists clog the entrances to the ancient walled city, a Unesco World Heritage Site, as huge cruise ships unload thousands more daily. People bump into each other on the famous limestone-paved Stradun, the pedestrian street lined with medieval churches and palaces, as fans of the popular TV series Game of Thrones search for the locations where it was filmed.

Dubrovnik is a prime example of the effects of mass tourism, a global phenomenon in which the increase in people travelling means standout sites — particularly small ones — get overwhelmed by crowds. As the numbers of visitors keeps rising, local authorities are looking for ways to keep the throngs from killing off the town’s charm.

“It’s beyond belief, it’s like living in the middle of Disneyland,’’ said van Bloemen from his house overlooking the bustling Old Harbor in the shadows of the stone city walls.

So many cruise ships.

On a typical day there are about eight cruise ships visiting this town of 2,500 people, each dumping some 2,000 tourists into the streets. He recalls one day when 13 ships anchored here.

“We feel sorry for ourselves, but also for them (the tourists) because they can’t feel the town anymore because they are knocking into other tourists,’’ van Bloemen said. “It’s chaos, the whole thing is chaos.’’

The problem is hurting Dubrovnik’s reputation. Unesco warned last year that the city’s world heritage title was at risk because of the surge in tourist numbers.

The popular Discoverer travel blog recently wrote that a visit to the historic town “is a highlight of any Croatian vacation, but the crowds that pack its narrow streets and passageways don’t make for a quality visitor experience.’’

It said that the extra attention the city gets from being a filming location for Game of Thrones combines with the cruise ship arrivals to create “a problem of epic proportions.’’

It advises travellers to visit other quaint old towns nearby: “Instead of trying to be one of the lucky ones who gets a ticket to Dubrovnik’s sites, try the delightful town of Ohrid in nearby Macedonia.’’

In 2017, local authorities announced a “Respect the City’’ plan that limits the number of tourists from cruise ships to a maximum of 4,000 at any one time during the day. The plan still has to be implemented, however.

“We are aware of the crowds,’’ said Romana Vlasic, the head of the town’s tourist board.

But while on the one hand she pledged to curb the number of visitors, Vlasic noted with some satisfaction that this season in Dubrovnik “is really good with a slight increase in numbers.’’

The success of the Croatian national soccer team at this summer’s World Cup, where it reached the final, helped bring new tourists.

It’s a nightmare

Vlasic said that over 800,000 tourists visited Dubrovnik since the start of the year, a 6% increase from the same period last year. Overnight stays were up 4% to three million.

The cruise ships pay the city harbor docking fees, but the local businesses get very little money from the visitors, who have all-inclusive packages on board the ship and spend very little on local restaurants or shops.

Krunoslav Djuricic, who plays his electric guitar at Pile, one of the two main entrances of Dubrovnik’s walled city, sees the crowds pass by him all day and believes that “mass tourism might not be what we really need.’’

The tourists disembarking from the cruise ships have only a few hours to visit the city, meaning they often rush around to see the sites and take selfies to post to social media.

Bangkok floating market

February 6, 2015 by David Herd

One of the most popular attractions.

Bangkok floating market

Bangkok floating market

Bangkok floating market is a little over two hour west of the city, a short taxi ride then a long-tail boat will take to the fascinating market.

Long-tail boat

Bangkok floating market

The long-tail boat is designed to carry passengers on a river & may include a lightweight long canoe hull, up to 30 meters long, and a canopy. There is a great variation among these boats, some have evolved from traditional craft types, while others have a more improvised look, the sole defining characteristic is a second-hand car or truck engine.

Crowded and chaotic

Bangkok floating market

This is really a great day out, put it on your bucket list.

Food, food and more food

Bangkok floating market

Bangkok floating market is certainly about Food, food and more food, everywhere someone is either eating or selling food.

Actually it’s not just food

Bangkok floating market

Plenty of stock to sell here.

Clothes & hats a well

This is probably my 3rd visit to the Bangkok Floating Market and I’m sure there will be a 4th.

In the supermarket they are 8 Baht each. 🙂

In Thailand they will sell anything anywhere. 🙂

The Bangkok floating market is certainly a “must see” when you visit Bangkok. Other interesting tours are of course the Grand Palace and Wat Arun.

Party Bar Pattaya Hot Babes

February 1, 2015 by David Herd

Great night with sexy babes

Party Bar Pattaya

Party Bar Pattaya

Party Bar Pattaya had a re-opening Monday January 26 2015, a new partner bought into this little business so it was time to sing, dance and celebrate. So that’s what my friend Hamish & I did, minus the singing & dancing, we concentrated on drinking & checking out the pretty ladies.

Just a little corner bar

Party Bar Pattaya

Located behind the Avenue shopping centre on 2nd road. Nothing too flash just a little corner bar where you can have a beer and watch the passing parade. In many ways people watching is why I also like the Cherry Bar on the corner of Soi 3 and 2nd road North Pattaya.

Party Bar Pattaya Lovely Noi

Party Bar Pattaya

Noi has just become part owner of the Party bar, drop in sometime and say hello.

Surrounded by gorgeous creatures

Party Bar Pattaya

What time can I start having fun?

Pretty ladies

Party Bar Pattaya

Great smiles certainly brighten up the night.

Lovely cowgirl Kung

Party Bar Pattaya

On this night all the girls wore cowgirl outfits and looked terrific, sadly now however they have reverted to normal clothes. It’s a shame really because any little back street beer bar needs to make sure customers remember them, so a point of difference that separates you from the thousands of similar places in Pattaya can only have a positive effect on the business. Walking streetLK Metro & Soi 6 have the passing traffic but most of the little back street bars don’t, so my message is loud & clear, dress the girls in the western outfits, they look terrific. 🙂

Check out my post on Seven sexy American restaurants and see how they do it, the yanks are masters of promotion.

Party Bar Pattaya & dinner is served

Party Bar Pattaya

One thing Thai girls like to do is eat. 🙂

Some great looking babes here.

Party Bar Pattaya

A very happy looking bunch.

A lesson for the Farangs

Party Bar Pattaya

Not all Thai ladies are available in Pattaya for foreigners like myself merely because you have a few thousand Baht to burn on a night out. I was quite impressed by this gorgeous lady so I gave her my card and later in the week tried to arrange to meet her for a drink. To her credit she had too much style to be seen with a fat old Farang like me, so she made an excuse that she was sick. Good luck to you Yuie, stick with the younger cooler dudes. 🙂

Yuie likes to drink and dance.

Party Bar Pattaya Hot Babes

Good luck to Party Bar Pattaya, I hope they have success, fun and make a lot of money.
