Surf and Turf Pattaya

February 24, 2021 by David Herd

Surf and Turf Pattaya

Surf and Turf Pattaya

Surf and Turf Pattaya is located at the front of the 4-star Long Beach Garden Hotel. For a more accurate description replace Pattaya with Naklua. The photo above is the original restaurant, the following shots taken in February 2021 will show the new section which is currently not in use due to having few customers because of the Coronavirus.

The new section

Surf and Turf Pattaya

It more than doubles the size of the original section.

Lots of surfboards feature

Surf and Turf Pattaya

However I have never seen a surf in Pattaya. 🙂

Outdoor section

Surf and Turf Pattaya

My preference is inside in front of a fan, however today was February 24 2021 & the breeze coming off the bay was magnificent.

Surf and Turf Pattaya

Surf and Turf Pattaya

A very popular restaurant, there always seems to be more Thai people than foreigners.

Avocado smoothie

Surf and Turf Pattaya

At B140 it was fairly average, I did have high hopes as I do love avocado. 🙂

Hamburger

Surf and Turf Pattaya

With prawns, the beef patty was very good, as were the fries. One of the features of this nice restaurant is the huge choice of dishes, both western & Thai, the staff are very nice as well.

If you prefer a quieter location to stay rather than Pattaya, the Longbeach Hotel is a good choice, especially with their beachside restaurant the Surf & Turf. For a very good room discount just follow THIS LINK.

Covid-19 devastates Pattaya

January 6, 2021 by David Herd

Coronavirus devastates business

Covid-19 devastates Pattaya

Covid-19 devastates Pattaya businesses & almost closes down the island of Koh Samui. This post will focus on some of the venues in Pattaya who have closed their doors permanently. The photo above shows a coffee shop at the Bay on Beach Rd, this was one of the first to shut down.

The Coffee Club

Covid-19 devastates Pattaya

Located at Markland where I live on the corner of Beach Rd & Soi 1.

A very familiar image on Beach Rd.

Covid-19 devastates Pattaya

That sexy girl has been smiling at us for 42 years. My first trip to Pattaya was 40 years ago in 1980, to see photos just follow THIS LINK.

It seems I was taken in by fake news, this venue has in fact reopened. 🙂

A very sad story  indeed.

Covid-19 devastates Pattaya

The Tahitian Queen (known affectionately as the TQ), Pattaya’s original A-go-go bar and Pattaya’s longest running establishment, has shuttered for the last time after 42 years. With over 100 employees, the objective for the last ten months has been to keep them with enough salary that they could subsist until the Covid nightmare is over.

It was a very sad night on Tuesday the 29th December 2020 as the staff arrived to collect their last paycheck. There were many tears and hugs as the doors were locked for the last time and the staff wandered off to uncertain futures.

One block away you will see in the photo below Pizza Hut has closed as well.

King Seafood in Walking Street

Covid-19 devastates Pattaya

One of the larges seafood restaurants on Walking St. Here is the heartfelt announcement from the owner.

“Dear all beloved customers.

Announcement; Shop closes until the situation improves.

We give up. We can’t fight anymore.

Seriously, since I was back open last August, we have been carrying a loss all the time. But during that time, we have hope that things will be better. Finally, it’s not what we hoped for.

This time, we are sold out. Physical and mental support.

Secondly, this round of crime comes from the corruption of government officials. Whether it’s multinational labor case or casual case, the state throws responsibility and burden to the private sector. Order closes before New Year’s Eve. Damages us. Customers cancel all bookings if there is any. New Year’s event as usual. We would have the encouragement and capital to fight. But at this time, it leaves us with no choice but to close the shop.

They claimed to be Pattaya’s oldest German restaurant, located on the corner of Beach Rd & Soi 4. Another regular lunch venue for me, I used to really enjoy their Polish Sausage with Potato Salad.

Here is a statement they published June 1st 2021;

It’s a sad day, first time I’ve ever had to do this but as you know we have closed the bar today, hopefully only for a short period but with the situation as it who knows, so if possible I’d like to try and line up my staff for a job if anyone has any positions available, I’ll vouch for them all.

A heart of gold

Covid-19 devastates Pattaya

A young female food stall vendor in Pattaya with the help of her friends and other charitable individuals decided to spend an entire day earlier this week cooking and providing freshly made food for free to the needy in Pattaya.

Ms. Wilaiporn K started a new food business near Tukcom Mall last week and decided to give back to the people of Pattaya by giving all food away for FREE.

One thousand meals

Covid-19 devastates Pattaya

A group of Chinese businessmen, who preferred to stay anonymous, handed out just over a thousand meals to the needy in Pattaya on Wednesday evening January 20th.

The donation event took place near Third Road and was also attended by Pattaya City Police who ensured that social distancing and other Covid-19 related measures took place.

A heartbreaking sight

June 2021 & hundreds of hungry Thai people wait patiently for some food.

My thanks to you for visiting my Covid-19 devastates Pattaya businesses photo blog, sadly in the coming months I will be adding more businesses to this site.

Long lunch Bistro Pattaya

December 22, 2020 by David Herd

Long lunch Bistro Pattaya

Long lunch Bistro Pattaya

Long lunch Bistro Pattaya was a 5 hour session including 3 bottles of red wine. We should had have the brains to stop at 3 but by then common sense went out the window. 🙂 My entre above is fairly easy to pick, prawns & avocado for B320, or $14 AUD. My friend Mark Yagalla hade the mixed platter of cheese & cold cuts for B480, or $21 AUD.

Italian red wine

Long lunch Bistro PattayaFrom Collio in Italy, very smooth indeed at B1,750, or $77 AUD.

Grilled Australian Wagyu

Long lunch Bistro PattayaMark ordered this very tender Australian steak priced at B790, or $35 AUD.

Pork brawn

Bistro Pattaya Instead of a main course I ordered a 2nd entree for just under $10 AUD.

Second bottle of red was a Pinot Noir

Long lunch Bistro Pattaya AOC Valais 2017 from Switzerland, priced at B1850, or $81 AUD.

Time for desert

Long lunch Bistro PattayaCaramel custard was very good at B180, by now however I’m starting to slow down. 🙂

Chocolate mousse for Mark

Bistro PattayaLooks good & priced at B240, or $10.50 AUD.

Things are starting to get messy

Long lunch Bistro Pattaya Mark said “hang the expense” lets order another bottle of red. This ridiculous idea certainly guarantees us entry into the “Idiots R us” Club. 🙂 It was a 316 Traluna Toscana for B1,180, or $52 AUD & it was a little disappointing, or perhaps we were too drunk to know the difference. 🙂

Here is the story of our 5 hour marathon lunch.

Long lunch Bistro Pattaya A lazy $320 AUD, well, after all Xmas only comes once a year. 🙂

Don Pepe Tapas Bar

Spanish Tapas

Don Pepe Tapas Bar

Don Pepe Tapas Bar is a welcome addition to what should be called “restaurant row.” It shares the arcade with several well known restaurants including Alter Ego, Beefeater, Patrick’s & Longhorn steakhouse.

Nice decor

Not too many customers at 6.30 pm. 🙂

Very interesting choices of food.

They have certainly created some interesting dishes. Patrick Van Den Berghe, the owner of Patrick’s Belgian Steakhouse is part owner of Don Pepe Tapas Bar, his vast experience will have quite an influence on this new establishment.

Barcelona style creme brulee

Don Pepe Tapas Bar

Not a bad way to finish an excellent meal. 🙂

A tapa is an appetizer or snack in Spanish cuisine. Tapas may be cold or hot. In some bars and restaurants in Spain and across the globe, tapas have evolved into a more sophisticated cuisine. Tapas can be combined to make a full meal. In some Central American countries, such snacks are known as bocas. Wikipedia

Many thanks for visiting my Don Pepe Tapas Bar photo blog, & thanks to my friend Hamish Elton for the use of some of his excellent photos.

Sportsman Pub Restaurant PattayaAlways crowded on a Sunday as you can imagine.

English breakfast as you would expect.

Sportsman Pub Restaurant Pattaya These day I don’t visit for their excellent breakfas because they don’t open till 9 pm which is too late for me.

Here is an interesting dish

Sportsman Pub Restaurant PattayaChicken curry Chinese style with fried rice, + battered prawns on the size.

Apple pie with custard & ice cream.

Sportsman Pub Restaurant Pattaya Make sure you leave room for this terrific desert.

Sportsman Pub Restaurant Pattaya

Sportsman Pub RestaurantCareful when ordering this tasty meal, very vey spicy. I asked them to tone it down for me but it was still rather hot. 🙂

Cottage pie

Sportsman Pub Restaurant Pattaya Excellent dish for B295, peas & gravy were perfect, carrots a little overcooked, was too much for me, so I took half home for lunch tomorrow. 🙂

Very good Dim Sum

Hong Kong Noodle Pattaya

Hong Kong Noodle Pattaya is one of my favourite lunch spots at Terminal 21. Located on the top floor near Pier 21 food court. There are so many places to dine here, the last time I checked I think there were 90 food outlets. For a guide just follow THIS LINK.

Interesting decor

Hong Kong Noodle Pattaya

At the moment in November 2020, they like many others are struggling to attract customers due to the Coronavirus. In fact many businesses all over Pattaya have shut their doors.

One of the best soups I have had in Pattaya

Hong Kong Noodle Pattaya On the left hand side you will see a giant seafood dumpling, it was very tasty indeed. 🙂

Prawn Shumai

Hong Kong Noodle PattayaPrawn or pork? Forget it, just order both. 🙂

I forget the name, but delicious as always

Hong Kong Noodle PattayaSometimes I will order two of these.

BBQ pork bun

Hong Kong NoodleCertainly rates as one of the usual suspects. 🙂

I must admit Dim Sum is probable close to being my favourite cuisine, just behind Japanese. 🙂 My favourite was The Peak at the Dusit Thani, sadly they closed in 2019.

L’Auberge French Restaurant Pattaya

September 27, 2020 by David Herd

L’Auberge French Restaurant Pattaya

L'Auberge French Restaurant Pattaya

L’Auberge French Restaurant Pattaya has recently moved from Pratumnack Hill to 3rd road so I figured it was time to see if it lives up to TripAdvisor’s rating of 127 out of 1,433 restaurants in Pattaya.

Oysters from France

L'Auberge French Restaurant Pattaya

Quite large & tasty, B890 or $40 AUD for a dozen, however as of October 2021 the price is B590 or $23 AUD.

The fine de claire is for those who prefer a less fleshy oyster. These oysters are finished for several weeks in shallow clay ponds where they acquire a superior quality shell to oysters grown in the open sea.

It is during this process that the claires of the Marennes Oléron basin impart the subtleties of regional flavours.

This oyster is particularly appreciated by the consumer who prefers an oyster rich in water and balanced in flavour.

Good service & friendly staff

L'Auberge French Restaurant Pattaya

The owner regularly came out from the kitchen to check with all the customers that everything was quite OK.

Red wine from Chile

L'Auberge French Restaurant PattayaThe house wine was good at B120 per glass or B240 for a 250 ml small carafe. I managed to put away 1/2 a litre. 🙂

L’Auberge French Restaurant Pattaya, the Sunday special

L'Auberge French Restaurant Pattaya

Consists of cheese & cold cuts, I will most certainly visit on a Sunday in the near future.
