Sexy Phuket LadyBoys

May 21, 2014 by David Herd

Sexy Phuket LadyBoys & Thai girls when I was there with my friend John Sinclair in July 2005. This was only 6 months after the Tsunami disaster that took so many lives.

OK, lets start with the LadyBoys

Sexy Phuket LadyBoys

Sexy Phuket LadyBoys & Thai girls, it is amazing how many transgenders there are in Thailand where society totally accepts them without question or prejudice. Kathoey or katoey is a Thai term that refers to either a transgender woman or an effeminate gay male in Thailand. While a significant number of Thais perceive kathoeys as belonging to a third gender, including many kathoeys themselves, others see them as either a kind of man or a kind of woman. Related phrases include sao (or phuying) praphet song (Thai: สาวประเภทสอง,”a second kind of woman”) and phet thi sam (Thai: เพศที่สาม, “third gender”). The word kathoey is of Khmer origin. It is most often rendered as ladyboy or lady boy in English conversation with Thais and this latter expression has become popular across South East Asia.

You are looking the wrong way John.

Sexy Phuket LadyBoys

My friend John seems to be enjoying himself way too much. 🙂 Ladyboys really are quite prominent in Thailand and are seemingly accepted by society, not only in the cities but in the countrysides as well. It seems as though it is the relaxed attitude of acceptance and tolerance in Buddhism that keeps people from shunning their lifestyles, although many other Buddhist countries are not as willing to accept a ladyboy living their life in public. Thai Buddhism specifically does not regard homosexuality as a sin and has no specific prohibitions regarding their lifestyle. Though Kathoey continually face discrimination they are gaining acceptance and have made themselves a very distinct part of the Thai society; however, they still have not yet attained equal status with those who are not transgender. There are many restrictions that come with the identity, one being the inability to marry someone of the same sex, another not being able to officially change their birth sex on birth certificates or passports.

Now I’m really worried about him

Sexy Phuket LadyBoys

Perhaps I should rush off and grab a bucket of cold water to throw on him, then again the LadyBoys would probably beat me to death. 🙂

4 Non Blondes - What's Up (Official Music Video)

Lets move the emphasis to the female of the species

Sexy Phuket LadyBoys

Thailand is famous for the girly bars, discos & pole dancing, you don’t have to go to Nana Plaza in Bangkok as the main street in Patong offers quite a large selection of places where you can get into all sorts of trouble.

The one on the left we nick-named the Bull-ant.

Sexy Phuket LadyBoys

The one on the left we nick-named the Bull-ant because she was so feisty and confident, the girl on the right had a bandaged knee obviously due to falling off a motorbike which is a common occurrence in Thailand.

What, no smile?

Sexy Phuket LadyBoys

This girl was absolutely gorgeous, and yes she did look so much better when she smiled.

Some big smiles here.

Sexy Phuket LadyBoys

I think my friend John was asking a question here, “what time can we start having fun”?

And the answer is………right now big boy 🙂

Sexy Phuket LadyBoys

Say no more.

What a beautiful face

Sexy Phuket LadyBoys

This girl was a beautiful tourist from London so I bought her a couple of drinks just so I could gaze at that face for 30 minutes or so. 🙂

Bright lights in Patong

Sexy Phuket LadyBoys

Not as much action as Walking St Pattaya, not not too bad.

OK, lets get back to the LadyBoys

Sexy Phuket LadyBoys

My friend John is at it again.

Come back big boy, I make you happy.

Sexy Phuket LadyBoys

At this stage John was in full retreat, and my faith was restored in him. 🙂

We always stay at the Patong Bay Garden Resort or The Thara Resort

Sexy Phuket Thai girls LadyBoys

This hotel is by far the best spot right on the beach in Patong.

We really need to have another look at “The Bull-Ant”

Sexy Phuket LadyBoys

It’s very hard not to have fun in Thailand, thousands of beautiful are on hand to make sure you do. I actually live in Pattaya just south of Bangkok but I always enjoy visiting the islands, Phuket, Koh Samui & Koh Chang.

Wealthy Play St Tropez

May 2, 2014 by David Herd

Let the games begin.

Wealthy play St Tropez

Wealthy Play St Tropez

Wealthy Play St Tropez, a place for sheer opulence, people watching, & great restaurants and bars. Please remember to take your money with you. 🙂

Boules-type games are traditional and popular in FranceItaly and Croatia, and are also popular in some former French colonies. In those countries, boules games are often played in open spaces (town squares and parks) in villages and towns. Dedicated playing areas for boules-type games are typically large, level, rectangular courts made of flattened earth, gravel, or crushed stone, enclosed in wooden rails or back boards.

Paella anyone?

Wealthy Play St Tropez

The huge place des Lices Market is a kaleidoscope of everything from fruit and veg to antique mirrors and slippers. It’s truly legendary and It is studded with plane trees, cafés and (when the market’s not on) pétanque players.

Saturday is market day in St Tropez

Wealthy Play St Tropez

The seaside resort town Saint Tropez is still very popular with the tourists, although the jetset and the in-crowd have long since left it behind. Set on the lovely blue water of the Bay of Saint-Tropez, this modern version of a medieval town is most popular for the line of yachts along the quay, and the facing line of terrace cafés, divided by a parade of strolling tourists.

Look at me, look at me. 🙂

Wealthy Play St Tropez

Naturally all the chairs face the footpath so customers can ogle & gawk at the people passing, while pretending not too. 🙂

The famous Cafe de Paris.

Wealthy Play St Tropez

There is of course another famous Cafe de Paris in Monte Carlo.

So many restaurants & so little time. 🙂

Wealthy Play St Tropez

I guess I’m stating the obvious however you can get far better value for your money by visiting the restaurants a couple of blocks away from the sea front.

The old part of town is quite fascinating.

Wealthy Play St Tropez

Behind the cafés, the small streets and old buildings are picturesque, but they’re more popular for the multitude of shops and restaurants than historical significance.

The back streets are interesting

Very interesting back streets of ST Tropez.

Shanghai China cultures collide

April 24, 2014 by David Herd

Oriental Pearl Tower in Pudong

Shanghai China cultures collide

Shanghai China cultures collide

Shanghai China cultures collide, where the old & the new sit beside each other in such a setting it takes your breath away. At night, is there a more spectacular skyline? Perhaps New York or Hong Kong, however Shanghai is right up there as one of the worlds most exciting cities.

Certainly no other city I have been to offers such an incredible contrast, from beautiful old French Colonial buildings to to the other end of the spectrum Pudong, the new Shanghai across the river where just a few years ago was just swampland. Now each time I look at the buildings there I feel like I am seeing Gotham city in a Batman movie. Every thing is so new and perfect is doesn’t seem real. There is no doubt in my mind when the Chinese people decide to take on a project nothing to them is impossible.

Shanghai is the largest Chinese city by population and the largest city proper by population in the world. It is one of the four direct-controlled municipalities, with a population of more than 24 million as of 2013.

My apologies for the quality of the photos, however in 2002 digital cameras were in the early stages, as as you can see the quality is not good.

Until 2007 it was the tallest building in the PRC, the fifth tallest in the world by roof height and the seventh tallest by pinnacle height.

Shanghai is spectacular at night.

Amazing buildings in Pudong

Pudong refers to the land in the east of Huangpu River. Originally, the area was mainly farmland and countryside with some warehouses and wharves near the shore.

Amazing Pudong

Shanghai China cultures collide

Pudong literally means “East Bank”. Pudong is bounded by the Huangpu River in the west and the East China Sea in the east. Pudong is distinguished from Puxi (“West Bank”), the older part of Shanghai. It has an area of 1210.4 km² and according to the 2010 Census, a population of 5,044,430 inhabitants, 1.9 million more than in 2000. Currently, at least 2.1 million of residents of Pudong are newcomers from other provinces or cities in China.

Big Bold Bustling Beijing

April 23, 2014 by David Herd

Big Bold Bustling Beijing is so big so busy, even crossing the road is an experience not to be forgotten. Motor vehicle drivers and people on bicycles couldn’t care less about pedestrians or traffic lights; in fact they use them as target practice. To make matters worse the streets are so wide it can take an eternity to get across; everyone huddles into a little mass of humanity and shuffles slowly between the oncoming vehicles, oh what a relief it is each time you make it to the other side.

Apart from all that it is a fascinating city full of history and wonderful breathtaking palaces, parks and buildings, and the food, well the food, Peking or should I say Beijing duck is to die for. Not to mention all of the other wonderful cuisines available, even though half the time you don’t know what you are eating. Having said that I must admit the best Peking duck I have ever eaten was the previous week in Shanghai, but that’s another story.

My friend “The General”

Big Bold Bustling Boisterous Beijing

I was only there for one week in 2002, not enough time so I will just have to go back again one day. I did have time enough though to see the Great wall, the Forbidden city, the beautiful Summer Palace, Tienanmen square and the bomb shelter built in 1969 to hold a mere 5 million people. Everything here is built on a grand scale, there are hundreds of new high-rise buildings under construction, on one site alone I counted 25 cranes working.

The Great wall of China certainly deserves to be the second most visited tourist attraction in the world, construction period was 770 to 256 BC and it is around 6300 kms long.

The size of the wall is amazing

Big Bold Bustling Boisterous Beijing

The Great Wall of China is a series of fortifications made of stone, brick, tamped earth, wood, and other materials, generally built along an east-to-west line across the historical northern borders of China in part to protect the Chinese Empire or its prototypical states against intrusions by various nomadic groups or military incursions by various warlike peoples or forces. Several walls were being built as early as the 7th century BC; these, later joined together and made bigger and stronger, are now collectively referred to as the Great Wall. Especially famous is the wall built between 220–206 BC by the first Emperor of ChinaQin Shi Huang. Little of that wall remains. Since then, the Great Wall has on and off been rebuilt, maintained, and enhanced; the majority of the existing wall are from the Ming Dynasty.

With my friend Mable in Beijing

Big Bold Bustling Boisterous Beijing

Beijing was a little complicated for me because I had to juggle two lovely ladies. I met Mable on an internet chat site shortly before arriving in Beijing, and I met my other friend Sonia on the Gold Coast in Australia a couple of months prior to that. My big problem was they both wanted to take me to the main attractions, so I had to duck & weave a little to avoid doubling up. One day I went to the Great Wall with Sonia and the next day to The Summer Palace with Mable, etc etc. On a couple of occasions they missed bumping into each other at my hotel by only 15 minutes, it really was a little stressful. 🙂

You met Mable, now meet Sonia.

As it turned out when we returned to Australia Sonia moved interstate and got married and one year later I flew Mable to Thailand and we holidayed on Koh Chang. Soon after that we lost contact, both ladies obviously quickly came to the same conclusion (rightly so) that I was not a good prospect for a long term relationship.

The Summer Palace

Big Bold Bustling Boisterous Beijing

The Summer Palace is a vast ensemble of lakes, gardens and palaces in Beijing, China. The Summer Palace is mainly dominated by Longevity Hill and the Kunming Lake. It covers an expanse of 2.9 square kilometres, three-quarters of which is water.

Wan Chai Hong Kong

April 19, 2014 by David Herd

Wan Chai Hong Kong in mid February, it was so cold, you must be joking I thought. Last week the temperature was 18 degrees, when I arrived it was 8. The first stop on my “seven Super Cities” adventure in a city I had not visited since 1980, 34 years ago.

Wan Chai Hong Kong

Wan Chai winter Hong Kong

Wan Chai Hong Kong is one of the busiest commercial areas in Hong Kong with offices of many small and medium-sized companies. Wan Chai North features office towers, parks, hotels and an international conference and exhibition centre. As one of the first areas developed in Hong Kong.

Gloucester Rd Wan Chai

Wan Chai winter Hong Kong

Wan Chai’s Gloucester Road, a east-west trunk route along the northern coast, is connected to Cross-Harbour Tunnel, the first undersea tunnel in Hong Kong. This tunnel is connected to the south by a direct viaduct from its landing point on Hong Kong Island to the Aberdeen Tunnel towards the southern coast.

Wan Chai Hong Kong opposite my hotel

Wan Chai winter Hong Kong

Prostitution has been one of the oldest occupations in Wan Chai. There are numerous historical accounts of women trading sex for western merchandise, especially from visiting sailors who got off the trading ships and visited this area.

Lockhart Rd Wan Chai

Wan Chai winter Hong Kong

In the 1960s, Wan Chai became legendary for its exotic night life, especially for the US servicemen resting there during the Vietnam War.

One Aussie, one Kiwi & 3 Filipinos.

Wan Chai winter Hong Kong

For bars, restaurants and night clubs Wan Chai Hong Kong is a great part of the cityThe area towards the western end of Lockhart Road, including a small part of the parallel Jaffe Road, is one of Hong Kong island’s two main bar districts (the other being the more upmarket Lan Kwai Fong in Central). Once considered primarily as a red light district, this area is now more diverse with bars, pubs, restaurants and discos.

A number of the raunchier bars still remain, however, their doorways festooned with women from Thailand and the Philippines. The famous novel and film “The World of Suzie Wong” sets many scenes in this area. The bar district has been popular with visiting sailors and navies, when Fenwick Pier, west of the Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Centre, was in use as a military pier.

The island is home to many of the most famous sights in Hong Kong, such as “The Peak“,Ocean Park, many historical sites and various large shopping centres. The mountain ranges across the island are also famous for hiking. The northern part of Hong Kong Island together with Kowloon forms the core urban area of Hong Kong.

Wan Chai winter Hong Kong

The island is often referred to locally as “Hong Kong side” or “Island side”. This description was formerly applied to many locations (e.g. ‘China-side’ or even ‘Kowloon Walled City-side’) but is now only heard in this form and ‘Kowloon side’, suggesting the two sides of the harbour.

Quite a contrast between these two vessels.

Star Ferry Pier

Wan Chai winter Hong Kong

The “Star” Ferry Company, is a passenger ferry service operator and tourist attraction in Hong Kong. Its principal routes carry passengers across Victoria Harbour, between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. It was founded in 1888 as the Kowloon Ferry Company, adopting its present name in 1898.

Kowloon

Wan Chai winter Hong Kong

Large-scale development of Kowloon began in the early 20th century, with the construction of the Kowloon-Canton Railway and the Kowloon Wharf, but because of Kowloon’s close proximity to Kai Tak Airport, building construction was limited by flight paths. As a result, compared to Hong Kong Island, Kowloon has a much lower skyline.

Amsterdam sex drugs & bicycles

April 11, 2014 by David Herd

A good place to start

Amsterdam sex drugs & bicycles

Amsterdam sex drugs

Amsterdam sex drugs & bicycles are what comes to mind when I think of this great city. The red light district attracts tourists like moths to a flame. Marijuana is freely available if that’s your thing, & every time you walk down the street you are in danger of being run down by Cyclists who believe the roads & footpaths were built exclusively for them to use.

In Amsterdam, this is the only windmill I saw, I know there are many more in the country however my 6 days were spent exploring the city.

Central Station

Amsterdam sex drugs

My journey started & ended here at the very busy Central station. I arrived by train from the airport and my wonderful B & B was only a five minute walk, then 6 days later I caught the fast train to Brussels.

Did I mention bicycles by any chance?

Amsterdam sex drugs & bicycles

Authorities say there are well over 600.000 bikes in Amsterdam. The population is  747,290 in Amsterdam proper, and 2,158,592 in the metropolitan area.

Opposite Central station

Amsterdam sex drugs

Amsterdam, capital of the Netherlands, has more than one hundred kilometers of canals, about 90 islands and 1,500 bridges.

Lots of good restaurants

Amsterdam sex drugs

There are hundreds of restaurants to choose from in Amsterdam, just wander around until one catches your eye.

Fresh seafood in Amsterdam.

THE FRESH SEAFOOD LOOKED FANTASTIC.

This is one of my favourite Amsterdam photos, I was wandering around the back alleys looking for somewhere to dine.

Ava Thomas, Italian restaurant

Amsterdam sex drugs

This Italian restaurant was the one I chose, nice food at a reasonable price.

The Grasshopper

Amsterdam sex drugs

The Grasshopper — one of the world’s best-known Cannabis cafés — is no longer selling cannabis, hash, or related products. The coffee shop located in landmark building across from Central Station, is one of the first of more than two dozen such shops in and around the Red Light District that are to be closed down over the next few years.

Amsterdam want to create a “grand entrance” — Amsterdam’s ‘visiting card’ —  to include high quality hotels, shops and restaurants — and coffee shops simply don’t fit into that picture. To make this ‘grand entrance’ a reality, in December 2007 Amsterdam introduced Coalition Project 1012. Named after the postal code for downtown Amsterdam, the project is designed to clean up the entire medieval center of the city. That includes the Red Light District, where the city has been working to take back control over the area from what one alderman referred to as ‘riff-raff.’

The project’s goals are to ban window prostitution from all but two locations, close down businesses set up with (or ‘susceptible to the involvement of’) white-washed money, reduce the number of coffee shops in the area, combat organized crime, and to promote the ‘Red Carpet’ vision.

At the introduction of Project 1012, then-alderman Lodewijk Asscher said that Amsterdam wants to recapture the historic city center in order to “give it back to the Amsterdammers.” Clearly, it’s not just the locals the City council was thinking about, but also well-heeled tourists more interested in fine dining and upscale shopping than in using soft drugs. Sadly if this eventuates Amsterdam will never be the same. NB: Coffeeshop (yes, one word) is a Dutch euphemism for establishments where soft drugs are legally sold and used.  Enjoy this while you can.

Amsterdam sex drugs & bicycles

Amsterdam sex drugs

De Wallen  is the largest and best known red-light district in Amsterdam and consists of a network of alleys containing approximately three hundred one-room cabins rented by prostitutes who offer their sexual services from behind a window or glass door, typically illuminated with red lights. These “kamers” are the most visible and typical kind of red light district sex work in Amsterdam and are a large tourist attraction. Amsterdam sex drugs, you can count on it.

De Wallen Amsterdam

Amsterdam sex drugs

I imagine this whole district will just move to another location, Amsterdam can’t afford to lose the millions of tourists that come to see the RLD with Amsterdam sex drugs & rock & roll. 🙂

May I remind you when I think of Amsterdam I think of sex drugs & bicycles.  😆

As with other countries, estimates regarding the total number of prostitutes vary. Most sources place this number between 15,000 and 30,000. An article published in 1997 in the International Encyclopedia of Sexuality claimed that the total number of prostitutes in the Netherlands was about 15,000 to 20,000. CATW has stated that there were 30,000 prostitutes in the Netherlands, citing “Sex tax Ticks off Dutch,” Associated Press, 14 October 1997.  According to Radio Netherlands, in 1999, there were estimated to be 25,000 prostitutes in the Netherlands, with 12,500 working at any one time at a total of 6,000 locations. A later study by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2000 estimated that there were a total of between 20,000 and 25,000 prostitutes in the Netherlands

One of the 2500 house boats in Amsterdam

Amsterdam sex drugs

All year long canal tours show people from all over the world how amazing the historical canal houses of Amsterdam look from the water. Some people enjoy this view every day from their own houseboat. Holland counts many houseboats, but Amsterdam holds the record with approximately 2500 houseboats.

Always lots of activity on the canals.

The replica of the three masted “Amsterdam”

Amsterdam sex drugs

The replica of the three masted “Amsterdam”, a large vessel of the Dutch East India Company, which in its maiden journey to Batavia sank in a storm in the English Channel in winter of 1749, stands high above the waters of Ij Bay, directly at the museum quay. The wreck of the ship has been discovered off the English coast in 1969, and the museum replica has been completed in 1990. Visiting the ship, you may see how small and primitive spaces were to house 350 people during the ship’s journey, with more comfortable but equally minute quarters for the ship’s captain and officers.

A wonderful B & B

Of all the places I stayed on my “seven super cities” adventure, my B & B in Amsterdam was the best accommodation by a long shot. There are only 2 apartments in the building beside the delightful couple Tony & Loes who live there.

Cape Town City South Africa

April 2, 2014 by David Herd

Long St Cape town City

Cape Town City South Africa

Cape Town City South Africa

Cape Town City is an interesting mix of new & old, Long Street is one of the main streets located in the City Bowl section of Cape Town. It’s famous as a bohemian hang out, the street is lined with many book stores, pubs, & many ethnic restaurants and bars.

Many interesting buildings

Cape Town City South Africa

Unlike my other posts on Cape Town city which are all very positive, I was disappointed in Long Street. I chose a hotel in the city just to be near this Street because of the information I had received when researching my trip. As it turned out I found the restaurants rather ordinary, plus walking down the street alone at night was rather intimidating. I have been alone at night in some of the most dangerous cities in the world so I do know what I’m talking about, Cape Town city at night was certainly a bit edgy.

These guys are here for a reason

Cape Town City South Africa

Many of these public safety guys are all over the Cape Town city, there is obviously a very good reason for their presence.

Here is what how the websites describe Long Street, It’s probably fine if you are a backpacker or with a group of friends, however for anyone else my advice is go to the V & A Waterfront which is totally the opposite to Long Street;

MOTHER CITY PARTY CAPITAL

If you’re looking for fun vibes and an excuse to stay out all night, visit Long Street, party capital of the Mother City.

One of the many great old buildings

The old buildings in Cape Town city certainly have character, plus if you are drinking on the first floor verandas you won’t be bothered by the many beggars. The locals call Cape Town city the Mother city.

Cape Town City South Africa

I have no idea what this building is, if I ever go back to Cape Town I’ll find out and let you know.  😳

Metlife Centre

Cape Town City South Africa

The Metlife Centre, is a 28 floor, 120 meter tall modernist skyscraper situated close to the Cape Town International Convention Center in the City Bowl area of Cape Town city, South Africa. The spired antenna on the building’s roof is 22 m/72 feet tall and was lifted into place by helicopter just prior to its completion in 1993.

From V & A Waterfront to the city is about 30 minutes walking.

The Castle of Good Hope is a star fort built in the 17th century in Cape Town city, South Africa. Originally located on the coastline of Table Bay, following land reclamation the fort is now located inland.

Hotel on St Georges

A very good value hotel in the city center with very helpful staff. Ask for a double bed, NOT two singles jammed together. Book here for a good price. The real shining lights for me in Cape Town city were V & A Waterfront, the wonderful Table Mountain & the impressive coastline.

Loving charismatic Cape Town

Cable car to the top

Loving charismatic Cape Town

Loving charismatic Cape Town

Loving charismatic Cape Town & especially one of Cape Town’s most popular tourist attractions with approximately 800,000 people a year using the cableway.  On the 29 December 2004 the cableway passed its 16 millionth visitor.

Loving charismatic Cape Town which lived up to what people had told me to expect, charismatic, colourful & spectacular. The city is dominated by the mystical Table mountain however the coastline & the V & A Waterfront have a huge amount of appeal also.

From the cable car

Loving charismatic Cape Town

It’s a long way down, if you are afraid of heights you may find this ride a little challenging.  😳

Top of the mountain

Loving charismatic Cape Town

Lots of thrill seekers actually climb to the top, I guess it also saves spending money on the cable car.

Downtown Cape Town from the mountain

Loving charismatic Cape Town

Cape Town is such a windy city Table Mountain is often closed to tourists.

Signal Hill

Loving charismatic Cape Town

Signal Hill, or Lion’s Rump, is a landmark flat-topped hill located in Cape Town, next to Lion’s Head and Table Mountain. The hill was also known as “The Lion’s Flank”, a term now obsolete.

Hout Bay

Loving charismatic Cape Town

The sheltered bay of Hout Bay has a white sand beach, a popular attraction for tourists and locals alike. Hout Bay has one of the busiest fishing harbors in the Western Cape with and established tuna, snoek and crayfish industry. The harbor is home to the Hout Bay Yacht Club and several restaurants.

Coast near Hout Bay

Loving charismatic Cape Town

Certainly the best way to get an appreciation of Cape Town is to ride the on & off bus, there are two routes, the red & the blue line. The blue is more interesting but does not include Table Mountain.

View from the bus

Loving charismatic Cape Town

Cape Town has a beautiful coast line, one of the beaches however are clogged with seaweed which prevents swimming.

Waterfront homes

Loving charismatic Cape Town

Some waterfront homes have a height restriction that does not let them build above street level giving unobstructed views from the road.

Green Point Lighthouse

Loving charismatic Cape Town

If you were a Victorian-era sailor home from the sea in Cape Town, the Lighthouse Service beckoned. You learnt your new trade at the Green Point lighthouse, which was built in 1824. This lighthouse was designed and built by a German stone-dresser and architect called Herman Schutte. It was commissioned by the acting governor of the Cape, Sir Rufane Donkin, and building began in 1821. To receive my latest posts please follow me on Twitter

Camps Bay Cape Town

Loving charismatic Cape Town

Camps Bay is an affluent suburb of Cape Town. In summer it attracts a large number of foreign visitors as well as South Africans looking for a beach holiday, there are lots of trendy restaurants opposite the beach.

Here is where I had lunch in Camps Bay.

Loving charismatic Cape Town

For most of the 1800s Camps Bay was undeveloped. Lord Charles Somerset used the area for hunting and used the Roundhouse as his lodge. Kloof Road was built in 1848 and in 1884 Thomas Bain was commissioned to build a road from Sea Point to Camps Bay using convict labor. The road was completed in 1887 and named Victoria road to honor Queen Victoria’s jubilee in 1888. The road allowed people to cycle out to Camps Bay which had gained popularity as a picnic site. This led to the development, in 1901 of the Camps Bay tramway to bring people out for the day and with it the development of the tidal pools, the Rotunda (now the Bay Hotel) and a pavilion for concerts and shows. In 1913 Camps Bay was incorporated into Cape Town although it was still seen as a recreational area rather than a residential area.

Camps Bay

Loving charismatic Cape Town

The first residents of Camps Bay were the San (Hunter Gatherers) and the Goringqhaique, Khoi pastorates. When Jan van Riebeek established a refreshment station for the VOC (Dutch East India Company), the 12 Apostles were covered in forests with lion, leopard and antelope.

Great food Waterfront Cape Town

Food, food & more food

Great food Waterfront Cape Town

Great food Waterfront Cape Town

Great food Waterfront Cape Town, I had a terrific dinner at OYO restaurant & cocktail bar, the entree pictured above was as good as I have had anywhere in the world. Prawn and avocado tian with sesame wonton crisp’s and a touch of “caviar” for around $9. A dozen Oysters were only $22.

Food & the magic mountain, two things stick in my mind when I think of Cape town,  great food at V & A Waterfront and the magnificent Table Mountain with clouds cascading over the top.

LIFE DOESN’T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THIS

Great food Waterfront Cape Town

Add a stunning view, excellent decor and very efficient staff to the great food and you have all the ingredients for a very good evening.

I have eaten oysters all over the world, please check out THIS LINK.

Great food Waterfront Cape Town & wonderful smiling faces

Two of the friendly staff at OYO, how about those terrific smiles?

Den Anker, Belgium restaurant & Bar

Great food Waterfront Cape Town

Great statue on the bar at Den Anker, they import their beers from top Belgian producers to ensure that locals have the opportunity to taste the best Belgium has to offer. Here is their description of what they serve; “We have 6 amazing beers on tap as well as some really exciting bottle brands.Liefmans Cuvee Brut is a firm favorite and if you are feeling a little adventurous you may like to try a Duvel Tripel Hop. We serve Trappist beers, Orval, Westmalle and Chimay for the real traditionalists. Beer drinkers wanting to sample Kwak beer should check the state of their socks. The draught beer is served in so special (and expensive) a glass that we demand one of your shoes as a deposit. It’s kept in a basket at the bar till you’ve returned our glass.”

Table Mountain, one of the greatest sights in the world. I spent hours watching the clouds cascade over the edge while sipping Belgium beer at Den Anker bar & restaurant.

A breathtaking view at Great food Waterfront Cape Town

The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in the historic heart of Cape Town’s working harbour is South Africa’s most-visited destination, having the highest rate of foreign tourists of any attraction in the country, Situated between Robben Island and Table Mountain and set against a backdrop of sea and mountain views, it offers a variety of shopping and entertainment options to visitors, intermingled with office locations.

Nice colonial building on the waterfront.

Next time I visit I’ll choose a hotel near the V & A.

Victoria & Alfred Waterfront

Great food Waterfront Cape Town

Prince Alfred, second son of Queen Victoria, began construction of the harbor in 1860. The first basin was named after himself, the second after his mother, hence the name. The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront development is a renewal project that incorporates much of the historic harbor infrastructure. The whole complex is managed by a private company owned by Transnet. An international consortium of Dubai World and London & Regional Properties acquired the development in 2006 at a record value in South African terms of 7.4 billion rand.
