Soho Village Plaza

Soho Village Plaza Pattaya is an outdoor market on 2nd Rd near Soi 1 & Big C. Good low price food and a pleasant outdoor atmosphere & lots of fresh seafood. 250 Baht is about $7.20 USD as at July 2015.

Vietnamese tourists

Last year in 2014 the place was full of Russians but with the collapse of the Rouble they have all disappeared. I much prefer these gorgeous Vietnamese girls anyhow. 🙂

Fresh fish, wine from 7 11 and my Kindle.

They do sell Thai wine at the market however if you prefer an Australian drop just buy it from 711 across the road.

Soho Village Plaza Pattaya is diagonally opposite the Sabai Empress, which is a good value budget hotel with nice rooms.

Marble Mountain Vietnam where the statues are hand carved by certified and regulated stone mason artists. These artist begin a lifelong apprenticeship from a very young age and spend their life learning the trade.

Mined from the famous Marble Mountain, in Vietnam, the premium marble offers quality and colours that can’t be found anywhere else in the world. Plus the skill of the Vietnamese ensures a wonderful product.

The stone carving village of Dong Hai, located next to the Marble Mountains in Vietnam is famous for traditional stone engraving and stone-cutting craft.

The statues here are rather extraordinary, all shapes and sizes.

Bangkok to Danang

There are about seven low cost flights per week from Bangkok to Danang, it only takes around 90 minutes.

Beautiful China Beach Vietnam

Beautiful China Beach Vietnam is in Da Nang, a port city along the coast of the South China Sea. While there is not a great deal in the city in terms of restaurants and bars at the moment, Da Nang has been targeted for massive investment by both the government and private companies alike, and is tipped to be a major destination for both tourism and commerce.

Although I was last there in 2003 I’m sure nothing has changed with the persistent beach vendors. They do not like taking no for an answer and there is really no escape from them.

Two Americans

We met two nice Americans on the beach and had lunch together washed down with some cold beers. Notice my Lee Child novel close by. 🙂

Shelter from the sun.

In more recent history, Danang is best-known for its role in the American Vietnam War. The Danang Airbase was a major American airbase, used both by the Americans and the South Vietnamese. Nearby China Beach, named after its beautiful china-white sand, was home to the 510th Evacuation Hospital, where wounded American soldiers would come to recover. China Beach itself was an American in-country R&R spot, nicknamed the “Five and Dime”. The Vietcong, meanwhile, had their own hospital surprisingly close by in the caves of the Marble Mountains.

I forget what the young girl was selling however I just had to capture that beautiful face.

If you find yourself travelling from Da nang to Hoi An make sure you visit Marble Mountain.

China Beach Vietnam

China Beach Vietnam is a great place to relax however I would suggest you stay at Hoi An which is only 45 minutes away by taxi.

Nong Nooch Tropical Gardens

Nong Nooch Tropical Gardens is a nice day out especially if you have children. A 30 minute drive from Pattaya and you can watch elephants play soccer.

Nong Nooch Tropical Gardens

Pisit and Nongnooch Tansacha purchased the 600-acre (2.4 km²) plot of land in 1954 with the intentions of developing the land as a fruit plantation. However, the owners instead decided to plant tropical flowers and plants as a wildlife conservation project. The garden opened to the public in 1980, and management was transferred to Pisit and Nongnooch’s son Kampon Tansacha in 2001. The garden currently fills 500 out of the 600 acres (2.4 km²).

No need to walk

If you are lazy like me just jump on a bus or an elephant.

Dusit Thani Hotel Pattaya

Dusit Thani Hotel Pattaya sits on a prime location on the headland in Pattaya with wonderful views of the Bay. Two nice pools and a good restaurant selection.

The gardens are huge and beautifully maintained as you would expect.

The hotel is on a huge property, in fact the Woman’s Thailand open tennis is held here every year.

The hotel entrance is beside the Dolphin roundabout at the start of Naklua Rd where there are many good restaurants.

The 2nd pool

The pool area and others sections have just been upgraded. I often use this as a short cut when I walk to Wongamat as the pathway around the waterfront has collapsed.

The building next to the Holiday Inn is Markland condos, I have lived on the 17th floor on the south side since 2011. In my opinion I have the best view in Pattaya.

Yum Cha at the Peak Restaurant

I am a regular customer here for their fantastic Yum Cha, the restaurant is quite hard to find, take the elevator near the pool to the 9th floor. The food is fantastic and the service is excellent.

Very sad to say the peak restaurant is closed permanently.

More of my favourite dishes

For a five star hotel the dim sum lunch is reasonably priced, about B550 for 5 baskets, plus the quality is exceptional.

Amari Beachside Hotel Pattaya is on Beach Road opposite the beach and has beautiful gardens and grounds. If you can afford it stay in the Ocean Tower, good rates through this link.

It is May 2017 & a huge renovation is underway, the Garden section is being totally demolished & a new tower will be constructed in its place. Tavern by the sea on Beach Rd will also be demolished.

All you can eat for 469 Baht every Wednesday, in fact I was there last Wednesday July 15 2015.

Terrific duo

This duo were fantastic entertainers, both have great voices and they perform a really good style of dinner music.

The Mantra has been my favourite restaurant since it opened back in 2004, the Sunday brunch is magnificent.

Sunday brunch is the best

Without a doubt the Mantra Sunday brunch is the best I have had anywhere in the world. If you visit Pattaya put it at the top of your list. Oysters from France, Alaskan crab, etc etc, nne different kitchens to choose from.

Unique Beach Road Pattaya Hotel the A-One has two main pools to enjoy or simply walk across Beach road to the beach. The hotel is in a perfect location next door to my condo. 🙂

Twin ships

The main hotel consists of 2 buildings at the front shaped like ships and 2 at the back, in adjacent Soi 3 there are 3 more 6 story hotels and a huge 20 story one under construction. The 27 floor high-rise in the photo is Markland where I live on the 20th floor.

A-One Beach Road Pattaya

This is only one of around 6 of there properties in the area.

Stunning at night

Unique and unforgettable, no wonder it is one of the most popular hotels in Pattaya. Take a Baht bus in front of the hotel for a short trip to wonderful Walking St for 10 Baht or 30 cents usd.

Seafood BBQ every night

Sit beside one of the two large pools and enjoy the seafood buffet.

All aboard

Beautifully lit up at night this Unique Pattaya Hotel represents good value. For an excellent room rate just book through THIS LINK.

Ai have quite a few adjoining properties, this one is located in Soi 3.

The big mishap in Soi 3

This new A-One hotel will be huge, over 20 floors, they had a little mishap late 2014 when the crane toppled over.

A closer look

Luckily there were no reports of any injuries.

June 2015

One and 1/2 years later they are still at ground level. Once they start above ground the progress will gain momentum.

September 4 2016

On the way to being completed, has reached 19 floors high.

July 2017

The finished project, they call it the MYTT Hotel.

Cape Dara Hotel Pattaya is a nice beach side hotel overlooking the ocean. Located halfway between central Pattaya and Wongamat beach. The hotel mini bus will ferry guests to the Dolphin roundabout where they can link up with the Naklua Rd restaurants or a Baht bus to Walking St.

There is something about polished hardwood floors that adds atmosphere in the tropics.

I must admit I didn’t try out these stools, personally I prefer a chair that I can lean back in. 🙂

Ming Xing Chinese restaurant

This is a delightful restaurant which offers a daily Yum Cha for 499 Baht and the food was excellent.

Here is a mango desert served at Ming Xing Cape Dara Hotel Pattaya. Mango is without a doubt my all time favourite fruit.

Sandy beach

Wongamat & Cosy Beach Pattaya are located north & south of the main Pattaya beach and offer far better conditions than the very busy and noisy Pattaya beach. There are no noisy speedboats taking people para sailing and to the islands so it is much easier to relax and enjoy the warm waters of the gulf of Thailand.

Cape Dara with the rather recognisable roof line is behind the Dusit Thani hotel which is the yellow and white building being repainted.

Beach Club Pattaya Bay is a fantastic location to enjoy a cocktail or 3 and watch the sunset. You can swim in the ocean or the 2 beautiful swimming pools.

Relax with a cold beer

No doubt this is one of the best locations in Thailand, happy hour is 5 to 7 pm every day and the food is very good.

Tapas for lunch at Beach Club Pattaya Bay

This is a great spot to have lunch, swim and check out the eye candy.

We have some wonderful sunsets in Pattaya.

The seafood feast on Friday and Saturday night was initially priced at 999 Baht but I believe now it has become more expensive.

My Australian friends

The beach club is on of the first paces I take my friends who are on holiday from Australia.

Muay Thai World Champion

This is Nathan Corbett from Australia’s Gold Coast in Thailand training for his next title fight. He absolutely loved the Beach Club. Nathan has held 11 World Champion titles in three different weight divisions, not only is he a champion fighter he is a very nice person.

grab a chair, order a cocktail and take a swim in the pool or the bay.

Private tent

From memory you pay 1000 Baht or $30 usd to hire for the day, however if you spend the same amount on food and drink the tent is free.

Beach Club Pattaya Bay is a beautiful setting

As I said earlier you have the choice of 2 swimming pools of the sandy beach.

Make sure you shower before swimming in the pool.

Neighbouring Condos

There are many new high rise buildings surrounding the Pullman hotel, I’m sure the residents are happy the Beach Club is close by.

Centara Grand Lost City Pattaya or lost city Atlantis? They have created quite an extraordinary environment in the hotel grounds. Perfect for children to have fun.

Pools or beach, you decide.

The Centara Grand is located on the beach so you can choose between a number of different pools or a nice sandy beach.

Is that a totem pole?

The hotel grounds are quite special, a fabulous place to take your children.
