Ezo Seafood Oyster Bar

Ezo Seafood Oyster Bar is ranked #4 of 328 Restaurants in Kutchan-cho Hokkaido. The following photos were taken by my friend Hamish Elton who was in Nisenko for 10 days skiing.

Even though Hamish & his friends dined at many other restaurants including the Michelin starred Kamimura, Ezo was his favourite , in his opinion it had the best and most unique range of fresh seafood.

Hamish & I live in Pattaya Thailand & his nickname there is “Oyster Man”. 🙂

Hairy Crab

The hairy crab (kegani in Japanese) or horsehair crab is found in the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan. It gets its name from the spiky hairs that cover its entire body. This little critter is smaller than the snow crab and the red king crab, making many people say it is more difficult to eat, but it has a dense , sweet flavor, making the effort of cracking open that shell well worth it. People who call themselves true crab lovers will often choose the horsehair crab. It is often boiled in saltwater to bring out its rich original flavor, then cut into sections and eaten by hand.

Sushi Kato Niseko Japan

Sushi Kato Niseko Japan is an interesting restaurant in Japan’s number one snow resort which is located in Hokkaido, a 2.5hrs drive from Chitose Airport. There are 4 interlinked ski resorts here – Grand Hirafu, Hanazono, Niseko Village and An’nupuri .

First thing you will see is the rustic Bar Kato pictured above, a whiskey and sake bar that serves as both the waiting room for the restaurant as well as a perfect spot to unwind over a quality drink.

Most of the photos here were taken by my friend Hamish Elton who enjoys food more than he enjoys skiing. 🙂

Sushi Kato offers three different set menus, Matsu (pine), Take (bamboo) and Ume (plum). The restaurant solely practices Kaiseki style of dining, meaning it is a prescribed set course dependent on the seasonal produce.

Hairy crab

This opening dish was appropriately the restaurant’s staple ingredient; hairy crab served in its shell accompanied by cod roe and ponzu jelly garnished with citrus flowers.

Just bring out the food

The owner Kato-san, Chef JJ and their impeccable team, have brought true authentic Japanese sushi to Niseko.

Portions are rather small

As you would expect with so many dishes on the set menu.

More wonderful hairy crab, too much hairy crab is never enough. 🙂

Shiraoi Beef grilled on a hot stone. The selected beef is Japanese Black beef, raised locally in the nearby town of Shiraoi which provides the perfect combination of weather, food and an abundance of water allowing the farmers to craft their prize cattle into some of the best produce on the globe.

Boat Quay Seafood Singapore

Boat Quay Seafood Singapore is one of the cities best districts for food. Very popular after work meeting place for office workers, in fact this quaint little waterfront area is dwarfed by high rise office buildings.

Original buildings preserved

Boat Quay is the name of the road along the quay, which has been converted into a pedestrian mall. As early as 1822, Sir Stamford Raffles had already designated the area south of the river to be developed as a Chinese settlement. Boat Quay was completed in 1842 and the Chinese, mostly traders and laborers, settled there in large numbers. Conditions were squalid but Boat Quay flourished, rapidly exceeding in volume the trade on the north bank where the Europeans had their offices, houses and government buildings. WIKIPEDIA.

Established in the 19th century

Boat Quay is one of the early roads established in the 19th century when the Singapore River was the main port area of the colonial city.

A very popular meeting place for expats, here is a group of friends dining at an Italian restaurant at Boat Quay.

Chili crab is my favorite

These monster mud crabs are imported from Sri Lanka are are delicious. Rather expensive of course like most things in Singapore, however you can haggle over the price at Boat Quay.

Victorian London Pub is one of the very popular pubs in Boat Quay where you can meet friends for pre dinner drinks.

Australian Expats love Singapore, and there was rain, wine & food in abundance when I was visiting friends in 2007. Anne Lacy worked at Parkview Square where the wine Angel would fetch our preferred tipple raising herself high on the end of a hook.

Chilli crab in Singapore is the world’s best, one my way to Istanbul on February 24th 2015 I have arranged a 9 hour stop over in Singapore so I can visit The East Coast Seafood Centre for another wonderful dining experience.

Attractions include one of Singapore’s two casinos, a Universal Studios theme park, and a Marine Life Park, which includes the world’s largest oceanarium. Anne, Kate, Duncan and Steve Bates. In Singapore, the Morton’s Atrium Bar has long been one of the most popular bars in the city, thanks largely to the exceptional offerings of the “Mortinis Hours” of 5pm-7pm on week nights when the iconic Morton’s Martinis are attractively priced and served with complimentary filet mignon steak sandwiches.

Changi is a reminder of Singapore’s historical connection with WWII, as the course winds through an area filled with mementos of the British presence like the soldier’s barracks, officer’s quarters, gun-emplacements and air-raid bunkers.

Chili crab Singapore without a doubt it’s the best in the world, it’s my favourite pastime in this great city. Imported from Sri Lanka they are the biggest I have ever seen, up to 3.3 kilos.

The East Coast Seafood Centre

Steve picks our lunch

The East Coast Seafood Centre in East Coast Park, Singapore, best known for co-locating several major local seafood restaurants, including Jumbo Seafood and Long Beach Seafood Restaurant. It’s only about 10 minutes to the airport. The address is 1206 E Coast Parkway #01-07/08, Singapore 449883.

They don’t get much bigger than this guy.

As you can imagine it takes well over an hour to work your way through this wonderful meal.

This is the main location in the city for chili crab, there are around 30 waterfront restaurants vying for your attention. Boat Quay is a historical quay in Singapore which is situated upstream from the mouth of the Singapore River on its southern bank.

Flashback to 1998 with the mudcrabs I caught from my jetty.

The biggest I ever caught was around 2 kilo, most however were 1.5, there is nothing like freshly caught mudcrab.
