Boat Quay Seafood Singapore

Boat Quay Seafood Singapore is one of the cities best districts for food. Very popular after work meeting place for office workers, in fact this quaint little waterfront area is dwarfed by high rise office buildings.

Boat Quay is the name of the road along the quay, which has been converted into a pedestrian mall. As early as 1822, Sir Stamford Raffles had already designated the area south of the river to be developed as a Chinese settlement. Boat Quay was completed in 1842 and the Chinese, mostly traders and laborers, settled there in large numbers. Conditions were squalid but Boat Quay flourished, rapidly exceeding in volume the trade on the north bank where the Europeans had their offices, houses and government buildings. WIKIPEDIA.

Established in the 19th century

Boat Quay is one of the early roads established in the 19th century when the Singapore River was the main port area of the colonial city.

Chili crab is my favorite

These monster mud crabs are imported from Sri Lanka are are delicious. Rather expensive of course like most things in Singapore, however you can haggle over the price at Boat Quay.

Victorian London Pub is one of the very popular pubs in Boat Quay where you can meet friends for pre dinner drinks.

Australian Expats love Singapore, and there was rain, wine & food in abundance when I was visiting friends in 2007. Anne Lacy worked at Parkview Square where the wine Angel would fetch our preferred tipple raising herself high on the end of a hook.

Imported from Sri Lanka, they are often much bigger than we can get in Australia. Chilli crab in Singapore is the world’s best, one my way to Istanbul on February 24th 2015 I have arranged a 9 hour stop over in Singapore so I can visit The East Coast Seafood Centre for another wonderful dining experience.

Resorts World Sentosa is an integrated resort off the southern coast of Singapore. Attractions include one of Singapore’s two casinos, a Universal Studios theme park, and a Marine Life Park, which includes the world’s largest oceanarium. The S$6.59 billion (US$4.93 billion) resort is the third most expensive building ever constructed. The resort will cover about 121 acres of land.

Anne, Kate, Duncan and Steve Bates. In Singapore, the Morton’s Atrium Bar has long been one of the most popular bars in the city, thanks largely to the exceptional offerings of the “Mortinis Hours” of 5pm-7pm on week nights when the iconic Morton’s Martinis are attractively priced and served with complimentary filet mignon steak sandwiches.

These happy people are some of Anne’s workmates. Anne is a director in a large insurance company while Steve plays golf and goes to lunch. 🙂

Here is an Aussie Duncan Paul teeing off at Changi Golf course near Singapore airport.

Changi is a reminder of Singapore’s historical connection with WWII, as the course winds through an area filled with mementos of the British presence like the soldier’s barracks, officer’s quarters, gun-emplacements and air-raid bunkers.

Chili crab Singapore

Chili crab Singapore without a doubt it’s the best in the world, it’s my favourite pastime in this great city. Imported from Sri Lanka they are the biggest I have ever seen, up to 3.3 kilos.

Steve picks our lunch

The East Coast Seafood Centre in East Coast Park, Singapore, best known for co-locating several major local seafood restaurants, including Jumbo Seafood and Long Beach Seafood Restaurant. It’s only about 10 minutes to the airport. The address is 1206 E Coast Parkway #01-07/08, Singapore 449883.

They don’t get much bigger than this guy.

As you can imagine it takes well over an hour to work your way through this wonderful meal.

This is the main location in the city for chili crab, there are around 30 waterfront restaurants vying for your attention. Boat Quay is a historical quay in Singapore which is situated upstream from the mouth of the Singapore River on its southern bank.

There are so many pubs & restaurants to choose from here at Boat Quay, Friday & Saturday nights it’s a madhouse.

Flashback to 1998 with the mudcrabs I caught from my jetty.

The biggest I ever caught was around 2 kilo, most however were 1.5, there is nothing like freshly caught mudcrab.

Valparaiso central Chile

Valparaiso central Chile about 100 kilometers from Santiago. I bet this fantastic house has been photographed millions of times, perched on the edge of a sheer drop you would not want to be a sleep walker.

This is one of the escalators (Ascensores) connecting the harbour area to the hills, and the building is the restaurant Las Brujas.

Funicular or Elevator

In 1996, the World Monuments Fund declared Valparaíso’s unusual system of funicular elevators (highly-inclined cable cars) one of the world’s 100 most endangered historical treasures.

Heroes of Iquique Valparaiso

Iquique is a port city and region in north Chile. Territorial disputes between a united Bolivia – Peru and Chile triggered the War of the Pacific in 1879. The Battle of Iquique was fought in the harbour of Iquique on 21 May 1879. Now commemorated as Navy Day, an annual public holiday in Chile. The outcome of the war gave Chile this portion of Peruvian territory.

The Sotomayor Square is the main square of beautiful Valparaiso central Chile. Valparaiso is a UNESCO world heritage site of Chile. The beautiful building is the Chilean Navy Office.

Valparaiso central Chile is a very interesting city, Viña del Mar is the next seaside town.

Vina del Mar

Viña del Mar meaning “Vineyard by the Sea”, is a city and on central Chile’s Pacific coast right next to Valparaiso. Its long stretches of white sandy beaches are a major attraction for national and international tourists. Known as “La Ciudad Jardín“ (“The Garden City”), Viña del Mar is a Chilean Municipality located in the Valparaíso Region. Viña del Mar has a population of 286,931 (according to the 2002 census), it is Chile’s fourth largest city.

Valparaiso central Chile was an interesting stopover on my way from Brazil to Australia.

I’m very pleased I took this tour to this ancient port of Valparaiso central Chile.

Easter Island is certainly not on my travel agenda. 🙂

Downtown Santiago.

I only spent two nights in Santiago and must admit I was not too impressed. I found it a fairly dull city overall, unlike Valparaiso and Vina del Mar which are more to my liking. However when it comes to drinking wine Chile has some wonderful examples. Although I live in Thailand most of the wine I drink here comes from Chile.
