Nana Plaza Bangkok

September 12, 2021 by David Herd

Sex in the city

Nana Plaza Bangkok

Nana Plaza Bangkok sex sin sleaze it’s all there. I have been a frequent visitor for 20 years & have seen the LadyBoy population rise from 10% to around 40% today. This does not suit me at all, give me the sexy young girls any day. 🙂

Was Lollipop, now Suckers

Nana Plaza Bangkok

I prefer the name Lollipop but I guess they are now referring to the people who enter the premises. 🙂

Here is the name a few months ago

Nana Plaza Bangkok

This post is going to show you the old and the new Nana Plaza Bangkok

The more things change the more they stay the same. Can you believe it’s 2018 & Lollipop returns. 🙂

Nana Plaza Bangkok Lollipop just refuses to die.

 Nana Plaza Bangkok

Nana Plaza Bangkok

Nana Plaza Bangkok seems to be forever changing not always for the better. In fact Soi Cowboy is more spectacular and the girls seem friendlier, the downside is that it is more expensive.

December 2014 with friends

Nana Plaza Bangkok

I like to stay at the Dynasty Hotel which happens to be only 40 meters from Nana Plaza so it is a very convenient drinking spot for me. In the photo above is Bow, Matt Harkness and Roland Bonnici.

The Plaza comes alive after 9 pm

Nana Plaza Bangkok

The later it gets the busier it becomes.

Entrance from Soi 4 to Nana Plaza Bangkok

Nana Plaza Bangkok

The plaza does not look too appealing in daylight.

Spellbound

Nana Plaza Bangkok

Nana Plaza Bangkok is square-shaped, with a single opening on the west side, and consists of a ground floor and two additional floors. It started as a restaurant area in the late 1970s. During the early 1980s, a few go-go bars appeared and gradually replaced the restaurants.

The composition of the bars has changed over the past few years; the last non-go-go bar, the Woodstock Pub, was sold in 2005 to the Rainbow Group and reopened as “Rainbow 4.” A few bars offer a more pub-like or beer bar format without dancing; as of late-2009 only the Cathouse remained. Three short-time hotels operate on the top floor. Short-time hotels rent out rooms by the hour or more to the NEP patrons to take a bargirl (or kathoey) for commercial sex.

Most bar girls working at bars in Nana Plaza are willing to leave with customers upon payment of a bar fine.

Spellbound is now Bangkok Bunnies

Nana Plaza Bangkok

The more things change the more they stay the same. It is a never ending cycle at Nana Plaza, one business goes bust and another steps in. Bangkok Bunnies is one of the largest clubs in the complex. The photo was taken February 20 2016 as was the following YouTube video.

Now in November 2018 there has been a name change.

Big Changes Nana Plaza Plus Soi 4The more things change the more they stay the same. I first came to Nana Plaza in 1996, & here I am again in October 2018 drinking ice cold Tiger beer & listening to the Eagles sing Hotel California, the perfect song for this incredible venue. “You can check out any time you want but you can never leave.”

My favourite Nana plaza girl

Nana Plaza Bangkok

Her name in Phung but to me she will always be Cleopatra. I met her at the Plaza in 2001 and for the next 7 or 8 years each time I would visit Bangkok I would look her up. She left the Plaza 3 or 4 years ago and I believe she now lives with a guy in Europe.

Kathoeys or LadyBoys

Nana Plaza Bangkok

Most bars in Nana Plaza do not employ kathoeys, but several do so exclusively. As of mid-2013, these venues are ObsessionVoodoo (ground floor), CasanovaTemptations (middle floor), Carnival and Cascades (top floor). With the exception of Voodoo which exclusively employs post-op kathoeys, the staff at the remainder are almost all “pre-operation”, in contrast to the kathoey bars in Patpong. A number of post-op kathoeys can be found at other bars managed by the Crown Group, namely Lollipop,Hollywood RockFantasia, and G-Spot as well as the independently run Erotica.

Quintessential Nana Plaza. Here is the my history over the last 20 years.

When I’m in Bangkok I like to stay in Sukhumvit Soi 11, here is an excellent budget hotel, if you USE THIS LINK you will get a great rate of around B1100 per night, or $30 USD.

La Ferme North Pattaya Restaurant

September 7, 2021 by David Herd

La Ferme North Pattaya Restaurant

La Ferme North Pattaya

La Ferme North Pattaya Restaurant is an interesting venue which is part of the Woodlands hotel in Naklua Rd near the Dolphin roundabout in North Pattaya.  Upmarket decor and reasonably priced food, they specialize in Chicken which the name suggests. My favourite is the Honey Glazed Chicken with pepper sauce, only 400 Baht or $15.  My only criticism is they overcharge for a glass of house wine, 150 Baht for a half measure. It’s a shame they are so mean with the wine because the food prices are good value. You used to be better off buying a bottle of Chile wine for 1100 Baht, but that was 2013, now the cheapest bottle is 1600 Baht and the average price is 2000, pour it yourself because they will try to push you to finish hoping they can sell you another bottle.

Absolutely delicious, it tastes as good as it looks.

Melbourne City cold windy

Melbourne City cold windy

Melbourne City cold windy 2014

Melbourne City cold windy when I visited in 2014 after driving from Adlelaide via the Great Ocean Road. It was so cold I only spent two days before heading to the Gold Coast.

Queenscliff to Sorrento

Road Trip Port Fairy Phillip Island

After the Great Ocean Road I caught the ferry from Queenscliff to Sorrento on the way to Phillip Island before staying at Dromana & Melbourne.

Melbourne City cold windy with a beautiful blue sky

Looking at this photo it’s hard to believe how cold it was. 🙂

These two girls must have been cold

I guarantee their teeth were chattering. 🙂

The famous Yarra River

Melbourne City cold windy 2014

The Yarra River or historically, the Yarra Yarra River, is a perennial river in south-central Victoria, Australia. The lower stretches of the Yarra are where Victoria’s state capital Melbourne was established in 1835, and today metropolitan Greater Melbourne dominates and influences the landscape of its lower reaches. Wikipedia

Located in Swanston Street Melbourne, I don’t ever miss a day visiting a Starbucks branch somewhere. 🙂

Prince’s Bridge Hotel

Melbourne City cold windy 2014

Young & Jackson’s (Princes Bridge Hotel) is one of Melbourne’s best-known hotels. The hotel has stood beside Melbourne’s busiest crossroads for nearly 140+ years emerging from humble origins to become an icon for the city. Young & Jackson’s is famous for many reasons, not just its landmark status, on the corner of Flinders and Swanston Streets, or its past early openings and riotous 6pm closing when hoards consumed as much as possible prior to the closing bell.

The horse & buggy guy

You gotta love that wastecoat. 🙂

Her Magesties Theatre

Her Majesty’s Theatre is a 1,700 seat theatre in Melbourne’s East End Theatre District, Australia. Built in 1886, it is located at 219 Exhibition Street, Melbourne. It is classified by the National Trust of Australia and is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register. Wikipedia

Federation Square

Melbourne City cold windy 2014

Located on the corner of Swanston Street and Flinders Street, Federation Square is at the hub of Melbourne’s CBD, arts and sports precinct. With so much to see and do here, it’s no surprise that Federation Square takes up the entire size of a city block-that’s 38,000 square metres to be precise.

Boat Quay Seafood Singapore

Famous Restaurant district

Boat Quay Seafood Singapore

Boat Quay Seafood Singapore

Boat Quay Seafood Singapore is one of the cities best districts for food. Very popular after work meeting place for office workers, in fact this quaint little waterfront area is dwarfed by high rise office buildings.

Original buildings preserved

Boat Quay Seafood Singapore

Boat Quay is the name of the road along the quay, which has been converted into a pedestrian mall. As early as 1822, Sir Stamford Raffles had already designated the area south of the river to be developed as a Chinese settlement. Boat Quay was completed in 1842 and the Chinese, mostly traders and laborers, settled there in large numbers. Conditions were squalid but Boat Quay flourished, rapidly exceeding in volume the trade on the north bank where the Europeans had their offices, houses and government buildings. WIKIPEDIA.

Established in the 19th century

Bruges Medieval Buildings Cobblestone Streets

Bruges is really worth a visit.

Bruges Medieval Buildings Cobblestone Streets

Bruges Medieval Buildings Cobblestone Streets

Bruges Medieval Buildings Cobblestone Streets, in fact I knew very little of this great place until I saw the 2008 movie called “In Bruges” with Colin Farrell, then I knew I just had to visit, I had the same feeling about Versailles after seeing the Woody Allen movie “Midnight in Paris,” so actually this European trip was planned around both those fascinating destinations. I was not disappointed the city is quite special, expensive but really special.  😆

Bruges waterfront homes.

Bruges Medieval Buildings Cobblestone Streets

Definitely a city that should be on your bucket list.

Without a doubt AGODA is the best online Hotel booking site.

Belgium Chocolates, yum!

Bruges Medieval Buildings Cobblestone Streets

Now we all know how famous Belgium is for its chocolates however I am willing to bet you don’t always get a warm smile from a lady when you give her some of these.

Coffee in the sunshine

Bruges Medieval Buildings Cobblestone Streets

Here are my two English friends Bill Austin & Dave Catchpole not looking too happy, maybe it was something they ate.  🙄

In fact they were grumpy most of the trip which caused us to split up once we got back to Brighton on the south coast of England.

Outdoor Cafe in Bruges beautiful Belgium city

I have no hesitation in recommending this beautiful place for you to visit,  remember to book your hotel before arriving. Check the weather forecast as well, it is so much nicer walking around the village taking photos with a beautiful blue sky.

What a coincidence, I’m living in Thailand & here when I visit Bruge there is a Thai festival happening. 🙂

Channel Ferry Dover Calais

June 16, 2016 by David Herd

Uttoxeter in Staffordshire

English Channel Ferry Dover Calais

Channel Ferry Dover Calais

Channel Ferry Dover Calais from England to France was our starting point for our road trip to Brugge and Versailles, which finished in Brighton on the south coast of England. I was travelling with two English friends Bill Austin & Dave Catchpole, & the reason our trip started in Uttoxeter was to visit my good friend Alan Austin (Bill’s brother) who was a guest of Her Majesty for a rather major indiscretion involving transportation of a certain white powder from Spain to England.

Overnight at Maidstone

English Channel Ferry Dover Calais

We stayed in the Townhouse Hotel in Maidstone which was excellent and left early for Dover, little did I realise at the time that quite a bit of tension would build up between the 3 of us over the coming days. Bill & I had been on successful road trips in the past which went as smooth as silk, however adding Dave to this trip seemed to effect the dynamics resulting in an unfortunate parting of the ways in Brighton.

First glimpse of the white cliffs

Channel Ferry Dover Calais

We really didn’t explore Dover, instead we went straight to the ferry terminal.

Waiting in the queue

Channel Ferry Dover Calais

There were certainly a lot of vehicles making the crossing.

Lots of trucks carrying freight

Channel Ferry Dover Calais

The trucks go on the ferry first then the private vehicles.

Ferries are quite large.

Channel Ferry Dover Calais

Which is comforting given the weather conditions can be rather rough in the channel.

A little chilly on deck

Bill and I looking forward to leaving Dover.

They seem to be rather frequent travelling both ways.

Farewell to the white cliffs.

Channel Ferry Dover Calais

I guess any time old guys like me talk about the white cliffs of Dover a particular song comes to mind.

Let’s hear it Vera.

The magnificent white cliffs

The cliffs look quite fantastic, only 22 miles to Calais.

More than 6,000 trucks are stuck in Dover due to Brexit negotiations, those French officials don’t care about the drama that’s being caused.

New Years Eve Sydney 2012

June 4, 2016 by David Herd

January 1st 2013, please note, this is not part of my Travel Blog. It’s my personal history, check it out if you wish.

New Years Eve Sydney 2012 at Drummoyne

New Years Eve Sydney 2012

New Years Eve Sydney 2012 from 72 Wrights Road Drummoyne where I lived for six years from 1979 to 1984. This is late afternoon and everybody is getting ready for the fireworks, there are two spectacular shows, one at 9 pm for the children (and me) and one of course at midnight.

New Years Eve Sydney 2012

New Years Eve Sydney 2012

The apartments you see are in St Georges Crescent where I also owned another 3 bedroom waterfront apartment at Brackley Gardens, this was for investment & rental purposes I never lived there. It is interesting to look at prices way back in the 70s, I purchased Brackley Gardens for $48,000 in 1977 then sold 5 years later for $98,000.

I sold Wrights road for a profit of $100,000 in 1986, I rate this in the top 3 mistakes I have ever made in my life.

Warwick Robinson

New Years Eve Sydney 2012

I have known Warwick for about 35 years, a nice fellow with a great sense of humour. He and his lovely wife Ady have lived in Cherrybrook for many years. I like standing beside him, he makes me look thin. 🙂

Peter Hesky

New Years Eve Sydney 2012

I have known Peter for a similar amount of time as Warwick, we enjoyed many great time together in the 70s & 80s. He is a great host and organized some terrific dinners at his Freeway Hotel in Artarmon.

Peter & I both love Mud Crabs and have polished off many back in the days I lived at Drummoyne, I must say however the best I have ever had have been in Singapore, follow THIS LINK to see what I mean.

In fact here is an example

New Years Eve Sydney 2012

These monsters are certainly not cheap, from memory this one set me back about $120. It’s from Sri Lanka and at 3.3 kilo the biggest I have ever eaten.

New Years Eve Sydney 2012

New Years Eve Sydney 2012

The 9 pm fireworks show at New Years Eve Sydney 2012 gets under way. I must confess I have seen so many fireworks displays over the years they have lost a little of their appeal for me. Certainly the best I have ever seen was in the 80s when I would anchor my boat in the Harbour beside the opera House and be in the middle of the action. Equally as exciting and maybe more so was Rio de Janeiro on NYE 2007 when 2 million people converged on Copacabana beach, just follow THIS LINK to see what I mean.

And the beat goes on

New Years Eve Sydney 2012

I have another confession I was in bed trying to get to sleep at 11 pm. 🙂

I was more impressed by the food

New Years Eve Sydney 2012

Our hosts Peter Hobbs and his lovely Thai girlfriend Pring put on a great spread.

And here she is 🙂

New Years Eve Sydney 2012

All I can say is Peter is punching way above his weight. 🙂

Peter & I the next morning on New Years Day.

New Years Eve Sydney 2012

Wrights Road in these apartments was my home for 6 years from 1979, some of the best years of my life. In fact check out my 1982 photo blog and see for yourself.

72 Wrights Rd

New Years Eve Sydney 2012

The smaller block in the middle was my home, I was in unit 12 on the top floor, Peter is on the ground floor on the left. Talking about property values again, I purchased in 1979 for $65,000 then sold in 1985 for $165,000. I believe now in 2016 they sell for over a million.

Flashback to 1982

New Years Eve Sydney 2012

One of the greatest eras in my life was living in Drummoyne in the 80s, looking back it was a mistake to move to Newport with my new fiancée thinking I was ready to settle down. How wrong can a man be?

Not too attractive from the street

New Years Eve Sydney 2012

However it was a great location to live with my white Mercedes Sports in the garage and my Bertram 25 moored right outside.

Robbie Bonnet

New Years Eve Sydney 2012

Robbie live here when I did in the 80s and he is still here now 35 years later. He owns a  Bob Jane T-Marts in Drummoyne however I believe it recently closed and he is moving to a new location.

Farewell to Wrights Road

New Years Eve Sydney 2012

The memories certainly came flooding back after spending New Years Eve Sydney 2012 at my old home in Drummoyne. It was great to catch up with lots of old friends, who say nostalgia is a thing of the past?

Talking about old friends

New Years Eve Sydney 2012

When I left Drummoyne on the morning of January 1st to drive to Port Macquarie I stopped in Dee Why for a coffee with another old friend Paul Slaughter.
