Genki Pattaya Japanese Restaurant

Excellent food at Genki

Genki Pattaya Japanese Restaurant

Genki Pattaya Japanese RestaurantGenki Pattaya Japanese Restaurant located in Soi 4 North Pattaya is one of my favourite Japanese restaurants in Pattaya. Lucky for me it’s only a short 5 minute walk from my condo. 🙂

Outdoor seating

Genki Pattaya Japanese RestaurantOutdoor seating plus a private room for around 16 people.

Rarely do you see a Farang here.

Genki Pattaya Japanese RestaurantCustomers are mainly Japanese, rarely do you see a Farang. (Foreigner)

Gyoza comes fried or steamed

Genki Pattaya Japanese RestaurantPriced at B90 or $4.00 AUD.

My Australian friend Viv Kennelly

Genki Pattaya Japanese RestaurantLike myself Viv really enjoys his food.

 Salmon Caviar

Genki Pattaya Japanese RestaurantOne of my favourite dishes at B300 or $14.50 AUD.

Same dish as above.

Genki Pattaya Japanese RestaurantProbably prepared by a different chef. Both come with the sheets of seaweed to make a delicious sandwich.

Genki Pattaya Japanese Restaurant

Genki Pattaya Japanese RestaurantThe omelet is so light it melts in your mouth. 🙂

 This guy was the boss.

Genki Pattaya Japanese RestaurantI believe he has gone back to Japan & the standard seems to have dropped slightly.

I’m not to keen on prawn heads in my miso soup.

Genki Pattaya Japanese RestaurantOh well I guess it improves the flavour. 🙂

Salmon sashimi

Genki Pattaya Japanese Restaurant Always hard to beat.

Mushrooms wrapped in bacon

Genki Pattaya Japanese Restaurant For all the non Muslims out there. 🙂

More Aussie friends

Genki Pattaya Japanese RestaurantHamish & Matt both have pretty good appetites.

Here is a funny story, Matt runs a factory in the motor industry with 60 or 70 staff, naturally he is on a very good wage. The clincher is however, on top of his wage he gets a hardship allowance for living in Pattaya. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Ayutthaya Historical Park Thailand

November 27, 2017 by David Herd

Fascinating Thai history

Ayutthaya Historical Park Thailand

Ayutthaya Historical Park Thailand

Ayutthaya Historical Park Thailand is about 80 kms north of Bangkok, however we were travelling from Pattaya so it was a 2.5 hour drive. The first thing we saw was this little dancing elephant.

I don’t like to see them trained like this.

Ayutthaya Historical Park Thailand

They are treated cruelly in the training process which is very sad.

Enjoying the ride

Ayutthaya Historical Park Thailand

This activity is fine, but I wish they would stop the cruel training.

These ruins are all over the city.

Ayutthaya Historical Park Thailand

It seems 90% was destroyed by people from Myanmar.  It was capital of the Kingdom of Siam, and a prosperous international trading port, from 1350 until razed by the Burmese in 1767.

 My travelling companions

Ayutthaya Historical Park Thailand

The 3 Amigos, Bill, Paul & Ron.

The local transport

Very impressive

Ayutthaya Historical Park Thailand

I was surprised to see how many ruined temples there were.

Quite spectacular

Ayutthaya Historical Park Thailand

 Certainly exceeded my expectations.

Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon

We struck a beautiful day with a light breeze.

Very popular with tourists

Ayutthaya Historical Park Thailand

Buddhist temple in Ayutthaya Lots of tourists everywhere.

Lots of cameras here. 🙂

Ayutthaya Historical Park Thailand

I prefer my Canon Ixus however I also use my phone or some.

There is a lot to enjoy here.

Ayutthaya Historical Park Thailand

We were too lazy to go up the stairs.

Too may Buddhas are never enough. 🙂

Ayutthaya Historical Park Thailand

I do like the yellow scarves. 🙂

Here we are at  Wat Phra Sri Sanphet

Ayutthaya Historical Park Thailand

Wat Phra Si Sanphet was the holiest temple on the site of the old Royal Palace in Thailand’s ancient capital of Ayutthaya until the city was completely destroyed by the Burmese in 1767. Wikipedia

Ayutthaya Historical Park Thailand

Ayutthaya Historical Park Thailand

 Not may tourists here.

Why did the elephant cross the road?

Ayutthaya Historical Park Thailand

Because anything the chicken can do he can do better. 🙂

Temple flooded October 3 2021

Ayutthaya Historical Park Thailand

A section of the wall on the southern side of Wat Chula Manee in Bang Ban district collapsed at about 5.30am after the Chao Phraya river overflowed, inundating communities around the temple. The grounds of the ancient temple were left 2 metres under water, damaging about 20 pagodas containing ashes of local residents’ ancestors.

Finally lunch then back home.

Ayutthaya Historical Park Thailand

Col One Love Restaurant was a bit of a tourist trap, we didn’t do our research & took our drivers advice. (kickbacks would apply here) Food was ok but not good value.

Thanks for visiting my Ayutthaya Historical Park Thailand photo blog.

Chiang Mai Doi Suthep

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep

Chiang Mai Doi Suthep

Chiang Mai Province Sacred site

Chiang Mai Doi Suthep, this temple is often referred to as “Doi Suthep” although this is actually the name of the mountain where it’s located. Perched on top of the mountain 15 kms from the city.

You have a choice

Chiang Mai Doi Suthep

Climb the 300 steps to the top or take the tram. I compromised by taking the tram up & walking down. 🙂

At peace among the trees

Our driver told us there were 2,200 temples in Chiang Mai province.

Lots of gold here.

Chiang Mai Doi Suthep

Background on Thailand: A unified Thai kingdom was established in the mid-14th century. Known as Siam until 1939, Thailand is the only Southeast Asian country never to have been taken over by a European power. A bloodless revolution in 1932 led to a constitutional monarchy. In alliance with Japan during World War II, Thailand became a US ally following the conflict.

Remarkable Temple Chiang Mai

Everywhere you look there is another fabulous statue.

Totally spectacular

Remarkable Temple Chiang Mai Thailand

As I said before Wat Ban Den is the most impressive Thai Temple I have ever seen.

Absolutely brand new.

Remarkable Temple Chiang Mai

It’s a huge credit to Abbott Kru Ba Tuang & all the generous Buddhists who donated money to completely renovate the original structures as well as adding new.

Magnificent dragon

Remarkable Temple Chiang Mai

This would be a great location for an Asian version of “Game of Thrones.” 🙂

Renovated in 1804 & 1998.

Remarkable Temple Chiang Mai Thailand

In  1804, Kruba Thueang Natsilo, a former abbot, also had the temple renovated. It became far more exquisite with Lanna-style architecture. The abbot intended to turn it into a beautiful place of worship with religious teachings. He hoped this would attract more people to the temple so that they would have a chance to learn about the religion.

Ring the bell folks. 🙂

Remarkable Temple Chiang Mai

The temple stands prominently on top of a small hill and can be easily seen from afar.

As you can clearly see this Temple is a photographer’s dream.

Asiatique Market Shops Bangkok

July 18, 2017 by David Herd

ASIATIQUE The Riverfront

Asiatique Market  Shops Bangkok

Asiatique Market Shops Bangkok Asiatique Market  Shops Bangkok located in the heart of the city on a 30 acre plot. Lots to keep you busy here, there are 1,500 shops & 40 restaurants.

Free shuttle

Asiatique Market Shops Bangkok The easiest and fastest way to get there is via boat. Just catch the BTS (Skytrain) to Saphan Taksin station and board the free shuttle at the end of the pier. It only takes about ten minutes & the boat runs every 30 minutes between 4.00 – 11.30 pm.

 A word of warning

Asiatique Market Shops Bangkok

Please be careful if you want to take a taxi from Asiatique, the Bangkok taxi Mafia are in full control of the taxi rank at the center. They will charge you B400 ($12 usd) for a fare that in our case for a 6 km trip should have been B70 or $2.50 usd. It is such a shame that TAT the Thai tourist Authority allows these gangsters to tarnish the image of this great city.

How much does a taxi cost in Bangkok? These fares are estimates; the exact fare will depend on traffic and any other surcharges noted below.

  • A journey of 5km = 55 Baht
  • A journey of 10km = 80 Baht
  • From Terminal 21 shopping mall (Asoke Skytrain station) to Grand Palace = 90 Baht
  • From Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport to MBK shopping centre (National Stadium Skytrain station) = 260 Baht meter fare + 70 Baht express-way tolls + 50 Baht airport pick-up surcharge.
Good vale at Capri

Asiatique Market Shops Bangkok

As soon as you step off the ferry head for Capri which is right in front of you, they have an extended “happy hour” with 2 for one drinks. We ordered 2 ice cold Chang draught beers for B24o & got the next 2 free.

Great time of the day for photos

Asiatique Market Restaurants Shops Bangkok Twilight offers a unique lighting scenario, within which ambient light (sunlight) gradually fades, creating a sparse but magical effect that is almost impossible to create artificially. It fades into the artificial light being emitted by street lights. Houses and offices and can sometimes create an ‘un-real’ feel as the shortage of light diminishes the eye’s perception of distance.

Buildings Chao Phraya River

Up the lazy river

Buildings Chao Phraya River

Buildings Chao Phraya RiverBuildings Chao Phraya River Bangkok are one of the many interesting sights in this great city. Take the Sky Train to Saphan Taksin station or grab a taxi. The river ferries leave from just below the station.

Above is the free shuttle to Asiatique an excellent night market 10 minutes away. Lots of terrific restaurants, be careful if you want to take a taxi home from there, they will quote B400 for an B80 ride, the Bangkok taxi Mafia is in full operation here.

Sathorn Unique Tower

Buildings Chao Phraya River

Planned as a high-rise condominium complex, construction of the building was halted during the 1997 Asian financial crisis, when it was about 80 percent complete. It’s now the most prominent of Bangkok’s many derelict buildings, and has become a destination for urban explorers.

One of the many skyscrapers.

Buildings Chao Phraya RiverBangkok is really going through a building boom, particularly along the mighty Chao Praya river.

One of the very tall buildings.

Excellent Beachside Restaurant

July 1, 2017 by David Herd

Surf & Turf

Excellent Beachside Restaurant

Excellent Beachside Restaurant

Excellent Beachside Pattaya Restaurant offers good food in a great seaside location on Wongamat beach. There’s a huge menu & my only complaint is the wine cost, like many other Pattaya restaurants they do not offer a glass of house wine for between B120 & B150. This oversight certainly costs them customers.

What a fabulous view

Excellent Beachside Restaurant

I prefer lunch over dinner for two reasons, the fabulous view & I find the wine far too expensive at night.

Excellent Beachside Restaurant

Excellent Beachside Restaurant

As you can see the beer prices are fine.

Let’s take a look at the food

Excellent Beachside Restaurant

My seafood pasta was very good indeed.

Scallop Mornay was excellent.

Succulent Oysters

As you can see, the food is beautifully presented.

I have eaten oysters all over the world, please check out THIS LINK.

Spanish Paella

Excellent Beachside Restaurant

One of the many interesting dishes on the extensive menu.

Chicken, onion rings, sweet corn , YUM!

Excellent Beachside Restaurant

By now you probably realize why this is a favorite Excellent Beachside Pattaya Restaurant.

Spinach soup, what a great color.

Excellent Beachside Restaurant

Often a soup & a selection of entrees suits me better than a large main meal.

TripAdvisor rating

Excellent Beachside Restaurant

TripAdvisor rate Surf & Turf 111 out of 870 restaurants in Pattaya. I’m a little surprised there are only 870, I really thought there were more. On another subject I have never been a fan of food served on wooden plates, I just wonder whether are are as hygienic as normal plates?

Two visitors from Australia

Excellent Beachside Restaurant Ross Kennedy & Bryce Mathews enjoying their first visit to Pattaya.

October 2017

Excellent Beachside Restaurant Good lunch as always with a bunch of Aussies, Steven & Justin Bates & Patrick John Taylor. The following day we flew to Chiang Mai.
