Rooftop Restaurant Bar Sofitel Bangkok on Sukhumvit Road between Nana & Asoke stations is on the 32nd floor of the hotel. L’Appart restaurant at the recently opened Sofitel is a delightful multi-faceted venue occupying the entire 32nd top floor of the hotel tower.

On the left is the Westin Hotel which is next door to Terminal 21, & on the right is the Sheraton.

Tonight there was quite a bit of haze over the city which effected the sunset & the view.

The Bangkok haze is still around I’m afraid.

The entire 32nd floor is occupied by the L’Appart restaurant & the Sky Bar.

Relax on the lounge with a cocktail or two.

The whole place is beautifully designed.

It certainly is a great looking kitchen. 🙂

Sit outside & watch the city lights.

There are probably between 25 & 30 Bangkok Sky Bars & this is one of the best. L’Appart opens daily from 5:00 pm at the Champagne Bar, and dinner is served from 7:00 pm.

Char Rooftop Bar Bangkok at Hotel Indigo at 81 Wireless Road is yet another addition to the growing number of rooftop bars in Bangkok. Open at 6 pm in time for the sunset.

Bangkok at night is rather stunning, when the lights come on it’s like a fairy land.

Just a seven minute walk down Wireless Road from Ploenchit station.

Close to Sukhumvit Road & Ploenchit station & Central Embassy shopping Mall.

The bar offers unlimited choices of alcohol.

As you would expect anything your heart desires is here at Char Rooftop Bar Hotel Indigo Bangkok.

I hope I have convinced you at Char Rooftop Bar Bangkok is worth a visit.

How are the beer prices?

Well I’m glad you asked. B160 for an Asahi or Heineken & B150 foe a Singha is quite reasonable for a rooftop bar of this quality.

Exciting Asoke Sukhumvit Line Bangkok

Exciting Asoke Sukhumvit Line Bangkok is only one station or 10 minutes from where I stay in Soi 11 Nana. Asoke station is adjacent to Terminal 21 one of the many Bangkok shopping malls.

Rajadapisek Road

From the corner of Sukhumvit Rd, on the left is Terminal 21 & on the right is the Pullman Hotel. The first street on the right is the famous Soi Cowboy.

Asoke Montri Road

Rajadapisek Road This is the other side of the intersection coming from Rajadapisek Road. The tall building in the centre on the 25th floor is where you can find one of Bangkok’s great sky bars, the Long Table.

The Asoke station has a direct walkway into Terminal 21.

Lots of action here at night plus traffic gridlock on Sukhumvit Rd around the busy intersection.

Soi Cowboy

Soi Cowboy is only a very short street with about 40 go-go bars, competing with Nana Plaza and Patpong Rd.

Nana Plaza, Patpong Rd and Soi Cowboy are popular “so called” entertainment areas.

Hemingway’s at Exciting Asoke Sukhumvit Line Bangkok

Another beloved expat bar and restaurant, Hemingway’s, shut its doors at the end of October 2016. The land was purchased by Japanese developers who plan to build a 27-story hotel on the site that sits directly at BTS Asoke at the top of Sukhumvit Soi 14.

Such a shame to see it go.

Unlike in the US, the UK and Australia, there are no laws in Thailand to protect historic buildings. If there were, this rare and gorgeous specimen would have been protected. Sadly the owners spent one million USD (THB35 million) renovating the house and opening the restaurant just four years ago.

Brewski at Radisson Blu Plaza

Brewski sky bar on Sukhumvit Road near Soi 25 claim to be the only rooftop craft beer bar in Bangkok. I’m not into craft beers however an Asahi bottle was reasonably priced at B160, or $4.50 USD.

You won’t see many white elephants in Asoke

Brewski Sky Bar Radisson Bangkok on Sukhumvit Road near Soi 25 claim to be the only rooftop craft beer bar in Bangkok. I’m not into craft beers however an Asahi bottle was reasonably prices at B160, or $4.50 USD.

To state the obvious when visiting Bangkok Sky Bars it’s always best to arrive before sunset to get the benefit of seeing the city in day light, dusk & night.

The crowd was building up, mainly Thai locals.

Abandoned building

I’m guessing this abandoned has bees sitting here for at least 10 to 15 years.

Two Pattaya reprobates

Joergen Ulitzka & Pothole aka John Martin were very impressed with the view.

Cielo Sky Bar is another spectacular venue to add to the many “must do” places to visit in this city. Located between Sukhumvit 69 & 71 only five minutes walk from Phra Khanong BTS station.

City lights are coming on

A beautiful sight watching the city lights come on.

My favourite time of the day

There must be at least 25 sky bars in Bangkok, more than any other city I have been to.

Red Sky Bar Central World offers another breathtaking view of this wonderful city. Perched high on the 56th floor at Centara Grand Hotel above Central World shopping Mall.

Bangkok Koh Samui Wine Bistro chain of restaurants has quickly become one of my favourite places to eat in Thailand. Excellent food and a great selection of wine at reasonable prices.

Beside Sala Daeng Sky Train station

Located in the basement of the Silom Complex right below Starbucks.

Spanish Style Gambas

My favourite dish at Wine Connection only B210.

Very reasonable prices

Not just the food, the wine prices are also very affordable.

THE GRILL @ CentralWorld

Located on the ground floor at CentralWorld, Wine Connection claim The Grill is their most upmarket outlet.

Pasta & Salmon

Absolutely delicious Serrano Ham & Truffle Oil Fettuccine only B230 or $6.50 USD.

Lots of fresh pasta

By now you probably understand why Wine Connection is such a favourite of mine. 🙂

South African Red wine

On special at B499 a bottle or $14 USD.

Wine Connection @ Rainhill

This is my favourite location, just a short walk from Phrom Phong BTS station.

Large cheese selection

A selection of cheese and a nice bottle of red, what more could you want?

Wine cellar

Wines from all over the world at very reasonable prices.

Great value food & wine

Every Wednesday from 7 pm to 9 pm there is free flow wine & beer for B499.

Location

Take the Sky Train or a taxi along Sukhumvit.

Wine Connection at Central Festival Samui

We only spent 4 nights in Koh Samui and chose to eat here twice.

Low cost wine

They offer a wonderful selection of wine from all over the world at liquor store prices. Our red wine from Chile was a bargain B650.

The chain I’m told is owned by a French group, I only wish they would open a branch in Pattaya. Hallelujah on November 28 2018 they opened at Royal Gardens in Beach Rd Pattaya. See for yourself on THIS LINK.

The food choices are extensive, lots of terrines a a big range of pasta.

Bangkok Koh Samui Wine Bistro

Cielo Sky Bar Bangkok

Cielo Sky Bar Bangkok is another spectacular venue to add to the many other “must do” places to visit in this great city. Located between Sukhumvit 69 & 71 only
five minutes walk from Phra Khanong BTS station.

As usual with Bangkok Sky Bars it’s always best to arrive before sunset to get the benefit of seeing the city in day light, dusk & night.

Who is this guy?

He greets you as you arrive at Sky Walk condominium, he could almost be saying “take me to your leader”. 🙂

Here we are at the bar

If you fancy a cocktail Pina Colada, Mojito or Mai Tais are around 200-250 Baht.

OK, back to the wonderful view

The late afternoon traffic is starting to build up.

Open from 6 pm to 1.30 am.

Compared to many of the other Bangkok Sky bars drink and food prices are quiet reasonable starting at B120 for a Singha beer.

The city lights are coming on

In my opinion enjoying a cold beer or a Margarita & watching the city lights come on in Bangkok is the perfect way to spend an evening.

Pra Khanong district

Pra Khanong district is a middle class residential area rather than a commercial district.

Only 12 minutes by Sky Train from Nana.

I usually stay in Soi 11 Nana and it only takes 12 minutes by Sky Train to get to Pra Khanong station. Then take exit 3 and walk 5 minutes along Sukhumvit to the Sky Walk Condo.

As you can see the restaurant is stunning

A small beautifully designed intimate room with chandeliers to add to the opulence.

Well worth a visit

On this occasion I dined elsewhere however I certainly will return to Cielo try out the intimate restaurant.

This restaurant looks very interesting indeed, it’s located at the front of the Sky Walk condo. Check them out on Facebook.

Bangkok Reclining Buddha Wat Pho

Bangkok Reclining Buddha Wat Pho is rated number 1 out of 517 things to do in Bangkok by TripAdvisor. Not sure how they come to this decision, however it certainly is very impressive, as is The Grand Palace & Wat Arun. Above is a couple of tourists posing with a Thai Guardian Statue.

There are many different statues & sculpture at Wat Pho including these imposing Chinese stone sculptures.

Symbolic offereings to Buddha

Candles, lowers & incense are some of the items used to honour Buddha.

Beautiful buildings

The blue sky enhances the beauty of the buildings.

Ashes of the Royal family

According to Wikipedia many of these structures contain the ashes of the Royal family in years gone by.

As you can see it’s an 18 minute taxi ride from MBK or Siam Center, will only cost about B80 in a taxi.

Too many Buddhas are never enough

Wonderful ornate Golden Buddhas.

Open from 8.00 to 17.00

Entrance fee B100 which is far better value than B500 at the Grand Palace.

The wonderful reclining Buddha

At forty six meters long and 15 meters high it is one of the largest Buddha statues in Thailand.

Beautiful from any angle

In 2013 I visited the Reclining Buddha in Yangon, it is in fact larger than Wat Pho, 66 meters long & 17 meters high.

In my opinion however this one at Wat Pho is the most beautiful.

Amazing Bangkok buses

Amazing Bangkok buses transporting tourists all over Thailand, many are decorated in bizarre colours often featuring Japanese cartoon & Disney characters. Eagles, serpents you name it they have got it. I have never seen anything like it anywhere in the world, take a bow Thailand for giving us so many great photo opportunities.

Bright & exciting colours

I have no idea how they produce these amazing creations, I’m guessing it’s all created on computer then automatically painted on the production line, then again how would I know? 🙂

There was a comment on Facebook that explained to process, it is a vinyl wrap, using the same machines that produce outdoor posters, then they just wrap them round the bus.

Six exhausts and speakers for sound.

This beast is one of my favourites

It was parked a few meters from where I live in Soi 1 Pattaya so I was able to have a close look.

Eight lethal exhaust pipes

Imagine if a motorbike crashed into the back of this bus, the exhaust pipes were on a 45 degree angle with sharp edges pointing upwards. Perfectly positioned to impale a human being. You gotta love Thailand.

Every morning hundreds of buses converge on Beach Road Pattaya bringing thousands Chinese tourists who board the boats to go para-sailing and visit Koh Larn island.

36000 buses idle

Tour bus operators are in dire need of measures to cushion the impact of the coronavirus crisis, as an idle fleet of 36,000 buses countrywide has already missed out on 7 billion baht in income during the sluggish tourism period.

President of the Thai Transportation Operators Association, said that while tourism was at its peak, each bus could generate 50,000 baht a day from tour services.

The current lack of income has led operators to carry a cost burden of roughly 2 million baht from each bus leased, and they don’t have enough cash for installment payments.

Siam Paragon Shopping Mall

Siam Paragon Shopping Mall Bangkok opened about 15 years ago in 2006, I remember how impressed I was with this amazing new shopping mall with it’s wide aisles and fabulous food court and supermarket.

Now of course there are many new super malls in Bangkok to compete with including Central Embassy and EmQuartier.

Shops on the 1st floor

Here is a guide to some of the shops.

Siam Paragon, Hanging fences

Another photo taken way back in 2006 of the Siam Paragon, Hanging fences, I’m not sure if they are still there or not.

The Main floor

Strangely the level that is linked to the skywalk is called the Main Floor, despite it being one above the ground, and the floors above that are then the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, up to the 5th, which is taken up by the Cineplex and its 15 large size theatres. There is direct access to the centre from Siam BTS Skytrain station.

Siam Paragon is opposite MBK

Only 5 minutes walk on an elevated path from the well know MBK centre.

As I mentioned for Siam Paragon get of at Siam station, MBK is actually one stop further at National Stadium station.

One thing is for certain the Thai people love their food and there are plenty of options at Siam Paragon to keep them happy.

When I’m in Bangkok I like to stay in Sukhumvit Soi 11, here is an excellent budget hotel, if you USE THIS LINK you will get a great rate of around B1100 per night, or $30 USD.

Bangkok Hotels Markets Shopping, Petchaburi Rd is surrounded by some of the best shopping in this great city. Everybody knows about Pratunam markets where you can buy clothes and accessories at rock bottom prices, now however there is much more competition at places like Palladium World and Platinum Fashion Mall which offer air conditioned comfort which you certainly don’t get at Pratunam markets.

GLOW Pratunam Bangkok Hotels Petchaburi

Right opposite Pantip Plaza the well known Bangkok I.T. centre. Book through THIS LINK for a discounted room rate.

Several floors of hardware and software, I have been shopping here for 20 years.

Computer and camera shops are located on the 3rd floor, as well as hardware, RAM etc for sale. Some shops specialize in building computers to your specifications. The fourth floor has more computer and repair shops.

Platinum Fashion Mall

Platinum is a 5 billion Baht shopping mall in Petchaburi Rd Pratunam, almost next door to Pantip Plaza, which specializes in fashion clothes and accessories both retail and wholesale.

Baiyoke Sky Hotel

Baiyoke Sky Hotel was built in 1997 and is the 2nd highest building in Bangkok. For an excellent room rate book through THIS LINK.

I took this photo from the Red Sky bar above Central, on the right is the Novotel and Palladium World Shopping mall.

Amari Watergate Hotel

The Amari Watergate hotel is a reasonably priced hotel in the middle of this shopping district, book through THIS LINK and you will get a discounted room for around $88 + tax.

Located on the corner of Phetchaburi Road and Ratchaprarop with the 3 gold domes, I believe it’s bigger and cheaper than Platinum Fashion Mall and has a bazaar type layout featuring long alleyways of tightly packed stalls.

It certainly does not look as spectacular as it does from the Red Sky Bar.

After a couple of hours walking there is nothing like a foot massage. 🙂

Bangkok Hotels Markets Shopping a 25 minute walk to MBK.
