Thai Marché bon appetit

Thai Marché bon appetit, a fabulous new addition to Pattaya’s restaurant scene. Diagonally opposite Terminal 21 it is part of Tiffany’s the Transvestite Cabaret which has been operating for 40 years.

Chic and sophisticated

The decor is quite brilliant, certainly as good as anything I have seen in Pattaya.

Showing a selection of deserts & fruit juices.

A spectacular spiral sculpture.

Upon entering this upmarket cafe restaurant your eyes are immediately drawn to this fabulous spiral sculpture that stretches towards the ceiling.

This dish was absolutely superb, 10 out of 10.

Sadly I can’t remember exactly what it was called, just show the waitress this photo. 🙂

A very interesting taste, 9 out of 10.

My preference is usually 2 or 3 entrees rather that a large main meal, I’ll definitely be ordering this one again next visit.

Fresh spring rolls only B100 or $3 USD.

Quite tasty but the sauce was a little too spicy for me. 🙂

I’m a sucker for deserts, especially mango & sticky rice.

Open kitchen featuring all day snacks.

An ideal spot for coffee & cake any time of the day.

It’s always nice to be able to see the chefs at work.

I think I’ll be a regular here.

The restaurant along with Tiffany’s is part of the nearby Woodlands group.

My 2nd visit was as good as the first time.

Tried some different dishes & they were all excellent. Deep fried spring rolls with crab meat,

These dumplings were to die for. 🙂

What a fantastic colour. 🙂

Mango & sticky rice is an iconic Thai desert.

A wonderful way to finish a terrific lunch.

Very tasty & cooked to perfection.

Right on 2nd Road Pattaya opposite Terminal 21. It will look a lot better once those ugly wires are put underground.

Tiffany’s seems to be under renovation.

Eleven thousand restaurants & such little time

Eleven thousand restaurants & such little time, dining in Bangkok can be rather confusing, because there are just so many good places to eat. Having said that, I must point out that even after living in Thailand for seven years 90% of my diet is western style food.

The Hass Bistro

Avocados are one of my favourite things to eat & drink in a smoothie. This simple little cafe is in Klang Avenue which runs off Sukhumvit midway between Thong lo & Phrom Phong BTS stations.

Lets take a closer look.

Chicken, cheese & tomato between 2 halves of avocado.

Yuna Japanese Restaurant and Bar

Located near the Grand Swiss hotel in soi 11/1 Nana. Food & service are good with a rather authentic Japanese atmosphere.

Eleven thousand restaurants such little time but I’m really trying. 🙂

The food above + a glass of house wine was total of B920 or $38 Aud or $28 USD. I’m still on my avocado push, notice the tasty serve above with creme cheese. 🙂

Oh no! Not more avocado. 🙂

Cultivated in Cancale, in the beautiful Bay of Mont St Michel, Brittany region of France, The Special de Cancale this a slightly acidic oyster loved for its taste of iodine, its firm flesh, light nutty flavor.

For over 20 years I have been enjoying Oxtail stew at the Busstop in Soi 4 Nana.

We used to get double the size for 1/2 the price, oh well I guess that’s just inflation. 🙂

As you can clearly see the size is shrinking.

Pirate Chambre

It’s a little hard to find the restaurant’s entrance located on the 3rd floor of the Maneeya Centre building, which directly links to BTS Chit Lom at the Siam end. The slow cooked lamb shank is absolutely delicious, more photos on THIS LINK.

Lets not forget Wine Connection.

Spanish style Gambas is my favourite dish at Wine Connection only B210.

Bangkok Hustle Nana Seven slash one may sound a little confusing, however let me explain this title. Soi 7/1 is a small alley off Sukhumvit Road adjacent to Nana station. I sometimes stay at a very good budget hotel called iCheck Inn Nana, which is at the end of the street about 200 meters from Sukhumvit Road.

Walking that 200 meters is where the hustle comes into play, you have to pass quite a few massage parlours where the girls & ladyboys are quite relentless in their efforts to lure you inside with the promise of all sorts of graphic exotic experiences. I’ll leave the description of these promises up to your imagination. 🙂

One of the popular Thai restaurants in this Soi.

There are 3 or 4 restaurants plus a few small hotels & 6 0r 7 massage parlours.

They call themselves the Bangkok Beer Cafe. 🙂

Mercure Pattaya Ocean Resort Hotel is in an excellent location right behind the Holiday Inn halfway between Beach Road and 2nd Road. The onsite water park makes it perfect to entertain children, plus it’s only 300 metres to the beach.

A nice infinity pool on the 5th floor.

I’m guessing it would be rater peaceful here as all the children will be down below at the water park. 🙂

Only 5 minutes to Terminal 21 & Grande Centre Point Pattaya

This is a fabulous new shopping mall that opened October 19 2018. Follow THIS LINK for lots of photos of the mall.

Imagine how much the children would enjoy playing here.

A lot more fun than being at the beach. 🙂

Mercure Pattaya Ocean Resort Hotel

The unique water park at Mercure Pattaya Ocean Resort Hotel.

Restaurant on the 5th floor.

Located adjacent to the infinity pool, there is also a gym on this floor.

Seafood promotion.

Only 399 Baht or $12 USD, I found the mussels & crab a little dry for my taste, perhaps because it was BBQ’d. The squid, prawns & corn was excellent.

There was a climbing wall there in 2014.

Not to sure if it is still there or not?

This was taken in 2014 when it was being built.

Notice above the building is where Terminal 21 & Grande Centre Point Pattaya now sits.

Amazing all wood religious structure.

Truth Sanctuary Pattaya Thailand

Truth Sanctuary Pattaya Thailand was initiated by a Thai businessman Lek Viriyaphant in 1981, and is scheduled to be completed in 2050. The sanctuary is an all-wood building filled with sculptures based on traditional Buddhist and Hindu motifs. Credit to Wikipedia.

The actual name is Sanctuary of Truth, however search engines such as Google etc don’t like “stop words” such as of or the, these have an adverse effect on how they rate a blog.

Buy a ticket at the gate for B500 or $16 USD.

Probably a little overpriced however it’s the only building of it’s type in the world s I guess we should pay a premium. 🙂

Steep stairs take you down to the Sanctuary.

Going down is fine though I was a little out of breath climbing back to the top. Then again it was a piece of cake when you compare it to the 811 steps I faced in Vung Tao South Vietnam a couple of years ago visiting the statue of Christ. Follow THIS LINK for the full story.

It’s a fair hike to get to the Sanctuary,

Lots of friendly staff on the way down to make sure you don’t wander off in the wrong direction.

Certainly one of my pet hates seeing these magnificent animals chained up in captivity to entertain humans.

Remember folks it is totally made of wood.

Imagine the thousands of hours it must take just to complete a small section.

This is really a photographers paradise.

Inside is just as spectacular as the outside of the building.

There really is so much to take in, you need to take your time soaking up the atmosphere.

King Bhumibol the Great was the ninth monarch of Thailand

King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand died at the age of 88 on 13 October 2016, after a long illness.

How many carved wooden figures would there be in this one small section.

There are workmen everywhere.

There must be close to 100 people working on this project, in fact all visitors must wear a helmet to protect against accidents.

Here are some pretty ladies.

Notice they all look rather similar.

Look out any window & there is a photo opportunity.

Reasonably quite during the daylight hours this famous street comes to life after dark.

In fact in my opinion the majority are rather average. However this no way detracts from the fun & the non stop action in Pattaya’s most notorious Soi.

Foodland Terminal 21 Pattaya is open 24 hours a day, & this branch is head & shoulders above all the others I have visited both here & Bangkok.

Smoked salmon, bring it on.

Slap it on a bagel with cream cheese and sprinkle over some chopped chives.

You gotta love the deli. 🙂

I will definitely be buying lots of leg ham here.

Foodland Terminal 21 Pattaya

A huge selection of goods as you can clearly see.

A very good selection at a reasonable price.

Best supermarket across the road is going to feel the effect of Foodland.

The bakery

Cakes, donuts, bread, croissants you name it.

Lets not forget our friendly butcher.

As I said previously this branch is head & shoulders above all the others I have visited both here & Bangkok.

Not too sure what his job is.

Just entertaining the kids I guess. 🙂

Here is some bad news

Very bad news, the cost of wine in Thailand is shocking, these 2 litre offerings are $30 AUD. Now in Australia you can buy an equivalent 4 litre cask for $12. That’s $3 a litre as opposed to $15 in Thailand.

Perhaps I should buy some grapes & make my own wine.

Wait a minute I don’t have a bath tub where I can crush them.

This is a fair question. 🙂

I guess I’ll have to grin & bear it at $15 a litre.

Here is the Foodland restaurant.

I’m a regular customer for breakfast at the branch at Royal Gardens, it’s a steel at 65 Baht or $2.80 AUD.

Open 24 hours a day

A huge advantage for me is the adjacent Starbucks, I have tea with my breakfast then move to Starbucks for my coffee. 🙂

Excellent quality & value.

B65 is so cheap & the eggs are perfect. 🙂

Skechers Performance Footwear have been my number one choice since April 2015, since then I have purchased nine pairs and totally destroyed 3 of them. The outlet above opened at Central Marina in October 2018.

My first 3 pairs of Skechers.

Within a matter of weeks I purchased another black pair simply because they were on special at a 50% discount, 2000 Baht or $60 AUD.

January 2017 & they now have exciting colours.

I love the colours & the different sole gives an improved cushion effect which really suits me.

I walk around 1,700 km per year, here is what happens to the soles. 🙂

I guess buying 3 pair may be a little over the top but the price was just too good to resist. 3,750 Baht or $160 AUD, this is normally the price of one pair.

The top row are my new purchases & the bottom row my existing shoes.

And these are my favourite pair.

That’s why I was happy to buy another green pair that can stay in the box until these wear out. 🙂

Bon Cafe Naklua Road Pattaya is one of my favourite breakfast spots, very good quality food & service at a reasonable price.

Breakfast including a Latte for B185 or $7.95 AUD.

Naturally you can choose fried or scrambled eggs or settle for an omelet.

Lots of good choices on the menu here.

Bon Cafe has quite an extensive menu offering good food at a reasonable price.

Fancy a light snack for lunch?

Chicken & chips were delicious.

Bon Cafe Naklua Road Pattaya is not just a restaurant.

The round trip from where I live in Beach Road to Bon Cafe Naklua Road Pattaya is 3.1 kilometers, a perfect distance for my morning walk. 🙂

A very good value restaurant

Bella Italia good Italian food

Bella Italia good Italian food at a reasonable price. Two locations with the same menu. One in 2nd Road near Soi 6 & the other Naklua Soi 33, this oone closed around 2019. There is a wood fired pizza oven on the right as you enter the restaurant.

A large outdoor dining area keeps the smokers happy I guess.

Much better to dine inside with the air conditioning.

Service here is always very good along with the food.

I did have a slice of Clair’s pizza & it tasted just as good as it looks. 🙂
