Japan, five popular places to visit

Japan five popular places to visit

Japan, five popular places to visit

Japan five popular places to visit. Japan is a beautiful country, with one of the most ancient civilizations in the world. There are many Japanese customs that have endured for hundreds of years – you’ll love their commitment to politeness and their incredible hospitality. The depth of Japan’s history is reflected in the many breathtaking tourist attractions waiting to be discovered, both natural and man-made. Here are five of the top ones for you to explore yourself.

1. Mount Fuji

Japan, five popular places to visit

Image by Yash Raut on Unsplash

At 3,776 metres high, Mount Fuji is Japan’s highest mountain. It is an exquisitely-shaped volcano that has long been worshiped as a sacred natural monument and is a popular attraction for locals and tourists alike. It remains active, though its most recent eruption was in 1707, and it can even be seen from Tokyo and Yokohama when visibility is good. You can take the world-famous bullet train to enjoy views of this awe-inspiring landmark, and there are many attractions and resorts near the foot of the mountain to see it up close.

2. Snow monkeys

Japan, five popular places to visit

Image by Steven Diaz on Unsplash

You may have heard of the famous snow monkeys of Japan, which are actually Japanese macaques. There are numerous attractions in Jigokudani, Yamanouchi and Nagano based around these majestic animals. The Jigokudani Yaenkoen park is a particular favourite for visitors, where the primates can be observed in their natural habitat. It’s a great diversion if you are staying at one of the ski resorts of the Shiga Kogen region which are renowned for their beauty. Just make sure everyone in your party takes ski safety seriously – a surprising number of people still ski without helmets, for example, with helmet wearing rates in Germany falling as low as 40%!

3. Kyoto Temples

Japan, five popular places to visit

Image by David Emrich on Unsplash

There are more than 1,600 temples in Kyoto, so it can be quite challenging choosing which ones to visit in the city. To help you out, here are a few recommendations:

  • Nanzen-ji Temple – this is a sprawling Zen haven amid luscious green hills.

  • Tofuku-ji Temple – reputed to be one of the most beautiful of Kyoto’s temples, Tofuku-ji also has the advantage of not being overly crowded (unless you visit during the autumn).

  • Daitoku-ji Temple – more than just a temple, this is a whole world of temples, with some of the most exquisite Zen gardens you’ll find anywhere.
  • 4, The Japanese Alps
  • Japan, five popular places to visit
  • If you want to soak up some of Japan’s most breathtaking natural beauty, the Japanese Alps are the best place to go. There’s plenty of opportunity for hiking, skiing and enjoying a soak in some of the country’s most scenic locations. There are also some unique attractions to discover, like a ninja theme park and a wasabi farm. A journey around the region could also involve a trip to Matsumoto, Kamikochi, Nagano and Obuse.

5, Himeji Castle

Japan, five popular places to visit

Image by Sebastian Sammer on Unsplash

When it comes to places of historical significance in Japan, Himeji Castle ranks highly. It has an elegant, white appearance and is exquisitely preserved for tourist visits. It is a world heritage site, one of Japan’s 12 original castles, and has stood since the 1400s. As it survives today, the complex is over 400 years old, made up of over 80 buildings connected by various gates and winding paths. The castle almost personifies Japanese culture and is not to be missed.

The magic and wonder of Japan comes from over a thousand years of rich cultural heritage, and there is so much more beyond these five highlights for you to discover. If you are visiting, you will enjoy the absolute privilege of taking in this wonderful culture.

Top tips London sightseeing

Top tips London sightseeing

Top tips London sightseeing

Top tips London sightseeing, very few cities offer the history, architecture and culture of London, so it’s understandable if you are eager to nail all the sightseeing spots on your visit. Londoners have many qualities, but they’re not typically known as the friendliest bunch in the world, so take a look at some of our tips to help you in the UK’s capital. After a few days of experiencing busy underground stations, charming pubs and bustling shopping centres, you’ll feel just like a local.

Tip 1, Stand on the right on an escalator.

Top tips London sightseeing

Nothing annoys Londoners more than tourists blocking their path when they’re running late for a train. It’s an easy mistake to make, especially if no-one’s pre-warned you, but standing on the left on an escalator is an unforgivable sin come rush hour. Just to make things clear: stand on the right, walk down or up on the left – it will make your life a lot easier without the sound of frustrated tutting behind you.

I hope this word of warning hasn’t put you off using the Underground, because it’s the best way to get around Central London.

Top tips London sightseeing Tube map

Top tips London sightseeing It isn’t too tricky to figure out, just watch out for the destination on the front of the train and you’ll be fine.

Tip 2, Go on a free walking tour

Top tips London sightseeingEvery city worth visiting hosts a wealth of companies offering free walking tours and London is no exception. They’re by far the best way to see the city: they’re free (though it is always polite to leave a tip for the guide), it gives you a better sense of direction and it provides some exercise in the fresh London air. Why spend £20 on an open-top bus tour when you can burn off the fish and chips from the night before, admiring the beauty of Buckingham Palace?

Tip 3, visit the pub.

Top tips London sightseeing Even if you’re not the biggest drinker, it’s still worthwhile basking in the quintessential English atmosphere that consumes a London pub. If you are into your alcohol, most pubs will pride themselves on their selection of booze, ranging from pale ales to exotic cocktails. For the more sociable visitors that are planning on making friends with the locals on your visit, the pub is your best option. Brits quickly open up once they have a cold pint in their hand.

Tip 4, Make sure to check out the museums and galleries.

Top tips for London sightseeing

London has so much to offer, yet the free entry into its art galleries and museums may just be the jewel in its crown. The British Museum, The Natural History Museum and The Science Museum are all hugely popular and in very close proximity, making the perfect itinerary for a day of history and culture.

Tate Modern is one of the most popular galleries and is ideally located right in the heart of Southbank, allowing you the chance to take a stroll along the Thames after enjoying some modern art.

Tip 5, Book your accommodation in advance

Top tips London sightseeing London can be a touch pricey, especially if you’re booking your hotel at the last moment. Make sure you’re prepared well ahead of time – saving money before you go creates some more funds to splash on a fancy dinner in Covent Garden. Don’t worry if you still haven’t found your perfect place to stay, there are plenty of companies designed to give you a helping hand with your search. Think of all the extra souvenirs you’ll be able to bring home.

One of my favourite songs about London.

Two weeks Gold Coast

Two weeks Gold Coast

Two weeks Gold Coast 2019 provided a welcome relief from months of hot weather in Thailand. Caught up with some old friends & celebrated another birthday at Melbas on the park. Most days were overcast with scattered showers which suited me just fine. Above is Marine Parade Labrador.

 [aws_search_form]

Talking about Labrador…

Two weeks Gold CoastThere is a nice restaurant next door to the Aqua building called The Lazy Lobster.

Lunch with an old friend.

Two weeks Gold CoastI have known Shane for around 30 years, he took me to lunch for my birthday.

I chose the baby Barramundi

Two weeks Gold CoastThe dish was very nice however I must admit my favourite place for seafood is on Chevron Island.

Chevron Island Seafood

Two weeks Gold CoastAlways fresh & the price is right. If you go make sure you say hi to Frank & Wozza.

Malcolm Kennedy

Two weeks Gold CoastCoffee on Chevron Island with Mal, another guy I have known for 30 years. Mal originally owned the Typsy Prawn restaurant on the corner of Upton St & Ashmore Road. He moved to Phuket around 2001 & opened a restaurant on the beach with the same name. Then after a few years he moved to Jomtiem & bought a venue called Simon’s Fish & Chips, he now resides on Chevron.

Avanti St Mermaid Waters

Two weeks Gold CoastMy brother Ian & his wife Sandra just demolished their home & built duplexes. They sold one & live in the other. 50% of the homes in this street are now duplexes. Incredibly there is one a few doors down from Ian that just sold for $1.8 million.

Hamish Elton visits Portugal

Hamish Elton visits Portugal

Hamish Elton visits Portugal

Hamish Elton visits Portugal on one of his many overseas junkets, he is a member of the worldwide Entrepreneurs Organisation, whose goal is “to provide learning and networking opportunities for its members”. If you would like more information just follow THIS LINK.

Nobody I know travels more than Hamish does, he is a director of a company called HealthCert who train doctors in Australia & overseas on the treatment of skin cancer. Hamish is based in Thailand & travels to Australia several times a year to assist with HealthCert seminars.

Hamish is the selfie king.

Hamish Elton visits Portugal No male in the northern hemisphere takes more selfies than Hamish, if you want proof just follow THIS LINK.

Great photo

Brazil's Rodrigo Koxa sets record for biggest wave ever surfed

Rodrigo ‘Koxa’ Augusto do Espírito Santo is a Brazilian professional big wave surfer and extreme water-man who broke the world record for largest wave ever surfed at Nazaré, Portugal, in November 8, 2017.

Time to check out some food.

Hamish Elton visits Portugal As well as the selfie king & a world traveller, Hamish certainly is a bon vivant who has the ability to eat huge amounts of food without putting on any weight. 🙂

You gotta love the terracotta roof.

Hamish Elton visits PortugalRoof, what roof? I don’t see any roof.

OK, now I see them.

Hamish Elton visits Portugal One of the interesting things about Lisbon is the lack of high rise buildings.

Here are Hamish’s comments on Lisbon.

“First impression of Lisbon was the Taxi from the airport to my hotel in the city centre.  The airport is very close the city – it was about a 15 minute drive, and there was no traffic at midday on a Sunday.  First thing you notice is the lack of high rise buildings.  There is still some 10-15 story buildings so it’s not a flat city like Vientiane but nothing much taller.  Certainly not that you would call “high-rise”.

In the old city there is nothing more than about 6 stories tall – and most of those have rooftop bars.

This is the view from the number one rated rooftop bar at the Hotel Mundial.

Make sure you take time to explore the Alfama district which is an old part of the city set on a steep hill leading up from the riverside with a lot of hidden small shops, restaurants and bars.”

Tuk Tuks.

Hamish Elton visits Portugal“The old city is quite compact and you can walk to most places, however there are now many Tuk-Tuks available to run your from place to place – as it is quite hilly.  Don’t worry – the Tuk-tuks are all electrics so there is none of the noise or small you get form the ones in Bangkok.  IT’s a great idea and I think many more cities will start to introduce them – especially where there are narrow streets.  They are also a great resource for finding good local sights or places to eat.”

Time to head to Cascais

Hamish Elton visits Portugal  Cascais is 30km to the west of Lisbon, and is connected to the capital by the “Linha de Cascais” urban railway.

It’s Party time at Arriba by the sea.

Luxury getaway Bali Indonesia

Luxury getaway Bali Indonesia

Luxury getaway Bali Indonesia

Luxury getaway Bali Indonesia, is the dream for many, isn’t it? Imagine sunning yourself on a white sandy beach, mocktail in hand, without a care in the world. Bali and its affordability have made it increasingly popular in recent years; with travellers discovering that living a life of luxury on the island doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg.

Do the research

Luxury getaway Bali Indonesia

Just make sure you do the right research and preparation before you go and you’ll be all set!

Tread across luxurious sandy beaches

Luxury getaway Bali Indonesia

The beaches in Bali are numerous, and each have their own little traits that make them oh-so-unique. If you’re staying on the south of the island, the white sand coasts of Kuta, Nusa Dua and Sanur may be exactly the kind of paradise you’ve been looking for. On the other hand, the hidden shores of Uluwatu, Padang Padang and Bingin, buried among cliffs, provide the tranquility that certain holidaymakers crave. If white sandy beaches aren’t your cup of tea, the northern and western shorelines offer black sands – dark and delicious, with their very own coves where you’re sure not to be disturbed. Exploring the gorgeous beaches will leave your friends and family full of envy and your social media profiles looking incredibly ‘goals’ worthy!

Explore culture beyond your wildest dreams

Luxury getaway Bali Indonesia

Not everyone wants to laze their days away on the beach – if you’re driven wild by the thrill of exploring a new place, there are more than enough attractions available to give you a real taste of what Bali has to offer. If royalty and history tickle your fancy, then a visit to Ubud Palace is an absolute must – a taste of spirituality mixed with hundreds of years’ worth of history. With thousands of temples on the island you could spend your time hopping from one to the next – each one is fascinating, and different from the one that came before it. If you time your trip right, you might find yourself on the island during one of their major festivals, allowing you to see the island in a whole new light. There are a number of different attractions and monuments you can immerse yourself in, especially if you’re a first time visitor with a craving for everything.

Taste of the local cuisine

Luxury getaway Bali Indonesia

Balinese food is renowned across the world – and for good reason. The island has a number of locations that offer cooking classes to give you a true culinary experience. It’s all well and good being able to taste the food, but being able to show off to your relatives upon your return is even better! If you do just want to have a taste, then the options are numerous and the flavours tantalizing – indulge in traditional bites such as Babi Guling and Nasi Ayam, if you think your taste buds can handle it.

Hass avocado Bistro Bangkok

April 21, 2019 by David Herd

Hass avocado Bistro Bangkok

Eleven thousand restaurantsHass avocado Bistro Bangkok is rather unique, their avocados are shipped from New Zealand and are served in every imaginable form and flavor. The hamburger is rather unique, the buns are replaced with avocado, what a great idea. The breakfast of poached eggs & avocado is perfect.

 1/6 Soi Sukhumvit 49

Hass avocado Bistro Bangkok Just 50 metres from Sukhumvit Rd. Opens daily at 8am, since it intends to serve early-birds who come in for breakfast, & closes at 9 pm.

Hass avocado Bistro Bangkok

Hass avocado Bistro Bangkok Quite a small restaurant with a comfortable atmosphere.

July marks the opening of the avocado season in Thailand and the best time of the year to buy and binge on until late September, while the Hass variety season starts from August and lasts until the end of the year or longer if cooler weather prevails.

Cutting the fruit open at the exactly right moment is obviously critical because it no longer ripens after the flesh is exposed. We all know the temperamental nature of avocados, cutting too soon would be a bust and leaving them for too long would be a waste. During the ripening period, skin colour changes is the best indication for its readiness but this also differs depending on the type.

The Juice bar

Hass avocado Bistro Bangkok On the left as you walk in the door, lots of varieties other than avocado. 🙂

In fact I ordered a mango smoothie.

I was was in heaven, 2 of my favourite things, Mango & avocado.

Breakfast is served.

Vientiane excellent coffee shops

Vientiane excellent coffee shops

Good restaurants Vientiane Laos

Vientiane excellent coffee shops were right around the corner from our hotel. They were every bit as good or better than I expected. The shot above is the cafe next door to Le Trio, I believe it is either part of the same business, or simply a shop who they sell their coffee to.

LE TRIO COFFEE

Vientiane excellent coffee shops The first ’boutique roaster’ in Vientiane, they source ethical beans from local Lao producers and use only Robusta and Arabica beans, using a magnificent German roasting machine to make their coffee.

There are only 2 stools to sit at here.

Vientiane excellent coffee shopsI guess that’s why they send you next door. 🙂

Vientiane excellent coffee shops

Vientiane excellent coffee shopsCoffee does not get any better than this.

Many other coffee shops in Laos buy coffee beans from Le Trio to make their own coffee, showing just how powerful their blend is.

JOMA BAKERY CAFÉ

Vientiane excellent coffee shops Joma is very popular among expats and travellers & has two locations in Vientiane. As well as their drinks, they serve great sandwiches, pastries, quiche, muesli, bagels and fruit shakes. It’s an excellent place to go to if you seek the taste of Western food. The mango pudding in the photo was absolutely magnificent.

Joma

Vientiane excellent coffee shops Joma was founded by Canadians in Laos and now has 12 stores in three countries, including Cambodia and Vietnam. I must say it was very similar to a Starbucks.

We stayed at the Bloom Boutique Hotel.

Bloom Boutique Hotel VientianeThese great coffee shops were only about 50 metres from our hotel. I would certainly recommend the Bloom Boutique Hotel, excellent rooms, friendly staff & a great breakfast. Use THIS LINK to book for a very good discount.

Sinouk Coffee Night Market

Vientiane excellent coffee shopsSmall restaurant/bar at the corner of the street, you can watch the crowds pass by at night on the way to the night market.

Thanks for visiting my Vientiane excellent coffee shops photo blog. We took a taxi for an hour ($10 USD) to check out the city, follow THIS LINK to see some of the sights.

Bloom Boutique Hotel Vientiane

Bloom Boutique Hotel Vientiane

Bloom Boutique Hotel Vientiane in Laos was a pleasure to visit.  I would happily recommend the Bloom Boutique Hotel, excellent rooms, friendly staff & a great breakfast. Use THIS LINK to book for a very good discount.

The restaurant

Bloom Boutique Hotel Vientiane The restaurant is on the 1st floor & reception is on the 2nd floor.

The bed was huge

Bloom Boutique Hotel Vientiane Please disregard the horrible sight in the mirror, although I realize it is very hard to un-see something. 🙂

Bathroom was excellent

Bloom Boutique Hotel VientianePlus the shower was perfect, which is often not the case in many hotels.

Lets talk about the breakfast.

Bloom Boutique Hotel Vientiane In my opinion the breakfast was one of the best I have had in any hotel. Forget the buffet style, the breakfast here is excellent. A choice of fried eggs or omelette, toast or baguette, salad or veggies, coffee or tea, yogurt or fruit.

Fried eggs for a change.

Bloom Boutique Hotel VientianeOut of the two the omelette was the best. 🙂 Plus the veggies were excellent.

Bloom Boutique Hotel Vientiane, very nice decor

Bloom Boutique Hotel Vientiane Their decorator should be congratulated. Those craft items on the table were for sale.

I would visit again just for the breakfast. 🙂

Bloom Boutique Hotel VientianeHere is all the hotel staff enjoying a special lunch to celebrate Songkran, the Lao New Year celebration.

After lunch they all get wet.

Songkran celebration Vientiane They celebrated for hours at the Bloom Boutique Hotel Vientiane.

Vientiane is Laos’ national capital, it mixes French-colonial architecture with Buddhist temples such as the golden, 16th-century Pha That Luang, which is a national symbol. Along broad boulevards and tree-lined streets are many notable shrines including Wat Si Saket, which features thousands of Buddha images, and Wat Si Muang, built atop a Hindu shrine.
