Low cost food Bangkok

November 5, 2021 by David Herd

Low cost food Bangkok

Low cost food Bangkok

Low cost food Bangkok is very easy to find, just stick to Sukhumvit Road & you can’t go wrong. I was staying in a small hotel just 40 meters from Chit Lom station which I consider the centre of this great city. I had a very nice room for only B1100, or $45 AUD. For a great room rate just book through THIS LINK.

New York Bagel

Low cost food Bangkok

I don’t get too exited about bagels, somrtimes I find to rolls far too tough. This shop is at  3 Phloen Chit Rd, Lumphini, Pathum Wan District, Bangkok 10330.

Good price for oysters from France.

Low cost food Bangkok

B886 or $36 AUD, quite a good price for Bangkok, although I get them for $23 at L’Auberge in Pattaya. These were Fine de Clare No 3.

The Fines de Claires Oysters are exclusively produced in the Marennes-Oléron basin in France. They have an elongated shell which makes them easily recognizable.

The Fines de Claires Oysters are less fleshy than normal oysters and have a softer-coloured flesh. The Fines de Claires Oysters are rich in water and have a stronger, slightly sweeter taste thanks to the « affinage” made in ponds connected to seawater during the last weeks of the farming.

El Mercado Calle 35

Low cost food Bangkok

El Mercado has 2 or 3 branches in Bangkok, this one is at M Tower, 15/8 Sukhumvit Soi 35, Bangkok.

Near Chit Lom BTS.

Low cost food Bangkok

I am a sucker for avocado. 🙂

Starbucks at Chit Lom

Low cost food Bangkok

I am at a Starbucks cafe at least once every day.

Good coffee

Low cost food Bangkok

Plus a great place to “people watch” in Bangkok.

Breakfast at JW Marriott

Whenever I’m in Bangkok I always visit their excellent cafe. Check out THIS LINK.

Always very quiet & peaceful

MBK, an empty floor

Sadly no business is fafe from the effects of Covid.

I can’t remember which cafe.

Low cost food Bangkok

I do however rember it was delicious. 🙂

Mango & sticky rice

The quintessential Thai desert, absolutely delicious. In fact I am back home in Pattaya & I’m intending to just have a serve of this for dinner.

Queen Victoria pub Pattaya

October 24, 2021 by David Herd

Queen Victoria pub Pattaya

Queen Victoria pub Pattaya

Queen Victoria pub Pattaya is one of my favourite breakfast venues. Great value at 99 Baht or $4 AUD. It’s only a five or six minute walk from my condo which is an added bonus.

Excellent breakfast

Queen Victoria pub Pattaya

Soi 6 is one of the seediest streets in Pattaya, and does not look the best in the early morning. If you can get past this image make sure you sample this excellent English breakfast for 99 Baht including tea or coffee. I usually request no tomato. 🙂

Fried egges if you prefer

Queen Victoria pub Pattaya

Whatever floats your boat. 🙂 Currently they serve 2 sausages & my only critisism is one piece of toast is not enough.

No tomato thank you…

Queen Victoria pub Pattaya

For some strange reason I have never liked eating cooked tomato.

Soi 6 before Covid

Queen Victoria pub Pattaya

Prior to the virus Soi 6 was one of Pattaya’s busiest streets day or night. Reasonably quite during the daylight hours this famous street comes to life after dark. To see more of life before Covid on Soi 6, please follow THIS LINK.

Always something to see

Queen Victoria pub Pattaya

My friend Hamish & I would often grab a roadside seat & watch the passing parade.

Soi 6 is never boring

Queen Victoria pub Pattaya

Check out these great smiles. 🙂 I can spot at least two LadyBoys here which would appeal to my friend John Martin, aka Pothole. 🙂

Back to the food

Queen Victoria pub Pattaya

A very good banana split, and no, it was not ordered for breakfast. 🙂

Soi 6 is probably Pattaya’s 2nd most famous Street after Walking St.

Thanks for visiting my Queen Victoria pub Pattaya  photo blog, for lots of other great breakfast venues, just follow THIS LINK.

Jasmin’s cafe Pattaya Klang

Jasmin’s cafe Pattaya Klang

Jasmin's cafe Pattaya Klang

Jasmin’s cafe Pattaya Klang has a very relaxed atmosphere & good low cost food. I must admit I often go there for breakfast but have not tried anything else other than breakfast. I’m sure however the rest of the menu will be a similar quality.

Jasmin’s cafe is located in Pattaya Klang 200 meters from Beach Road. TripAdvisor rating is #32 of 1,096 Restaurants in Pattaya

Nice casual atmosphere

Jasmin's cafe Pattaya Klang Inside seats around 18 people with a similar number outside.

Standard breakfast

Jasmin's cafe Pattaya KlangThere are quite a few good breakfast choices on the menu.

Nana Plaza Bangkok

September 12, 2021 by David Herd

Sex in the city

Nana Plaza Bangkok

Nana Plaza Bangkok sex sin sleaze it’s all there. I have been a frequent visitor for 20 years & have seen the LadyBoy population rise from 10% to around 40% today. This does not suit me at all, give me the sexy young girls any day. 🙂

Was Lollipop, now Suckers

Nana Plaza Bangkok

I prefer the name Lollipop but I guess they are now referring to the people who enter the premises. 🙂

Here is the name a few months ago

Nana Plaza Bangkok

This post is going to show you the old and the new Nana Plaza Bangkok

The more things change the more they stay the same. Can you believe it’s 2018 & Lollipop returns. 🙂

Nana Plaza Bangkok Lollipop just refuses to die.

 Nana Plaza Bangkok

Nana Plaza Bangkok

Nana Plaza Bangkok seems to be forever changing not always for the better. In fact Soi Cowboy is more spectacular and the girls seem friendlier, the downside is that it is more expensive.

December 2014 with friends

Nana Plaza Bangkok

I like to stay at the Dynasty Hotel which happens to be only 40 meters from Nana Plaza so it is a very convenient drinking spot for me. In the photo above is Bow, Matt Harkness and Roland Bonnici.

The Plaza comes alive after 9 pm

Nana Plaza Bangkok

The later it gets the busier it becomes.

Entrance from Soi 4 to Nana Plaza Bangkok

Nana Plaza Bangkok

The plaza does not look too appealing in daylight.

Spellbound

Nana Plaza Bangkok

Nana Plaza Bangkok is square-shaped, with a single opening on the west side, and consists of a ground floor and two additional floors. It started as a restaurant area in the late 1970s. During the early 1980s, a few go-go bars appeared and gradually replaced the restaurants.

The composition of the bars has changed over the past few years; the last non-go-go bar, the Woodstock Pub, was sold in 2005 to the Rainbow Group and reopened as “Rainbow 4.” A few bars offer a more pub-like or beer bar format without dancing; as of late-2009 only the Cathouse remained. Three short-time hotels operate on the top floor. Short-time hotels rent out rooms by the hour or more to the NEP patrons to take a bargirl (or kathoey) for commercial sex.

Most bar girls working at bars in Nana Plaza are willing to leave with customers upon payment of a bar fine.

Spellbound is now Bangkok Bunnies

Nana Plaza Bangkok

The more things change the more they stay the same. It is a never ending cycle at Nana Plaza, one business goes bust and another steps in. Bangkok Bunnies is one of the largest clubs in the complex. The photo was taken February 20 2016 as was the following YouTube video.

Now in November 2018 there has been a name change.

Big Changes Nana Plaza Plus Soi 4The more things change the more they stay the same. I first came to Nana Plaza in 1996, & here I am again in October 2018 drinking ice cold Tiger beer & listening to the Eagles sing Hotel California, the perfect song for this incredible venue. “You can check out any time you want but you can never leave.”

Nana Plaza Bangkok at sunset

My favourite Nana plaza girl

Nana Plaza Bangkok

Her name in Phung but to me she will always be Cleopatra. I met her at the Plaza in 2001 and for the next 7 or 8 years each time I would visit Bangkok I would look her up. She left the Plaza 3 or 4 years ago and I believe she now lives with a guy in Europe.

Kathoeys or LadyBoys

Nana Plaza Bangkok

Most bars in Nana Plaza do not employ kathoeys, but several do so exclusively. As of mid-2013, these venues are ObsessionVoodoo (ground floor), CasanovaTemptations (middle floor), Carnival and Cascades (top floor). With the exception of Voodoo which exclusively employs post-op kathoeys, the staff at the remainder are almost all “pre-operation”, in contrast to the kathoey bars in Patpong. A number of post-op kathoeys can be found at other bars managed by the Crown Group, namely Lollipop,Hollywood RockFantasia, and G-Spot as well as the independently run Erotica.

La Ferme North Pattaya Restaurant

September 7, 2021 by David Herd

La Ferme North Pattaya Restaurant

La Ferme North Pattaya

La Ferme North Pattaya Restaurant is an interesting venue which is part of the Woodlands hotel in Naklua Rd near the Dolphin roundabout in North Pattaya.  Upmarket decor and reasonably priced food, they specialize in Chicken which the name suggests. My favourite is the Honey Glazed Chicken with pepper sauce, only 400 Baht or $15.  My only criticism is they overcharge for a glass of house wine, 150 Baht for a half measure. It’s a shame they are so mean with the wine because the food prices are good value. You used to be better off buying a bottle of Chile wine for 1100 Baht, but that was 2013, now the cheapest bottle is 1600 Baht and the average price is 2000, pour it yourself because they will try to push you to finish hoping they can sell you another bottle.

Honey Glazed Chicken

La Ferme North Pattaya

Absolutely delicious, it tastes as good as it looks.

Brad Robbins

La Ferme North Pattaya

Brad is a lawyer from Townsville in Australia, he is with his long time Thai girlfriend Por.

Frank Hawkes

Lets keep introducing the Aussies. 🙂

La Ferme North Pattaya

This is Alan Kendall from Sydney who felt totally at home in Pattaya.

What is this dish?

La Ferme North Pattaya

I just can’t remember, after all it was 2013. 🙂

Another shot of the mob.

La Ferme North Pattaya

On the right is Pothole aka John Martin, the pretty girl beside him is his neice. The other guy is Joergen from Melbourne, but I don’t remember the Thai girl’s name. 🙂

Hungry Hippo Soi Buakhao

Hungry Hippo Soi Buakhao

Hungry Hippo Soi Buakhao is a very popular low cost restaurant with a huge selection of meals both eat in or take away. Very highly rated by TripAdvisor at #235 of 1,103 Restaurants in Pattaya.

Easy to find

Hungry Hippo Soi Buakhao

Hungry Hippo Soi Buakhao

Without a doubt this is the largest cup of tea in the whole city. 🙂

Lamb shank

Interesting Food Chiang Mai Thailand Two of us ordered the lamb shank & were surprised when the bill showed a B200 price difference. It turned out there were 2 versions o the menu, my advice to David the very attentive owner is to ensure staff point this out rather have have an argument at the end of an excellent meal.

Talking about he owner

Interesting Food Chiang Mai Thailand      Interesting Food Chiang Mai Thailand

He makes an effort to interact with his customers & explained that his wife come in of a morning to make he deserts. Here are two fabulous old photos of them in their younger days. David looks like is stepped out of the role as the artful dodger in Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist. 🙂

Storm pulverises Pattaya

August 27, 2021 by David Herd

Storm pulverises Pattaya

Storm pulverises Pattaya

Storm pulverises Pattaya on the morning of August 27 2021. Naturally the beach was badly damaged as usual. However the council will roll out the heavy equipment tomow & quickly repair the damage. This photo was taken from my balcony at markland Condo around 11 am.

Due to the wild downpour

Storm pulverises Pattaya

It does not take long for the beach to be damaged.

Tonnes of sand is washed away

Storm pulverises Pattaya

I think this may be a dress rehersal for next month, September of course is Pattaya’s wettest month.

Opposite Markland Condo

Storm pulverises Pattaya

Loacated opposite Soi 2 in north Pattaya.

That’s the A-One Hotel in the foreground

Storm pulverises Pattaya

The damage is the same every 50 or 60 meters along the beach. Usually opposite a Soi, the water floods downhill from 2nd Road.

Soi Diana is flooded

Storm pulverises Pattaya

It seems every part of Pattaya is affected.

Patrick’s Belgium Steakhouse

Storm pulverises Pattaya

As you can see there is water all along the arcade. However apparantly none acually got to the inside of the restaurant.

Patrick’s

Looking down the arcade to 2nd Road.

Storm pulverises Pattaya & the arcade is underwater

Storm pulverises Pattaya

Hopefully all the restaurants escaped serious damage.

Many Pattaya roads flooded

Storm pulverises Pattaya

This result is not unusual, it’s a common occurance in the wet season.

Beach Road

Storm pulverises Pattaya

All this floodwater spills over to the beach and causes lots of damage.

Jomtien Beach

Storm pulverises Pattaya

Imagine the force needed to inflict this amount of damage.

Ok let’s just fix it. 🙂

Storm pulverises Pattaya

They moved fairly quickly to repair the damage.

Have you checked your boat lately?

Storm pulverises Pattaya

This can only end in tears.

The Pattaya weather forecast

Storm pulverises Pattaya

Spot on I would say. 🙂

The last big storm

Storm pulverises Pattaya

The following day the heavey equipment was hard at work reparing the damage, I’m sure they will return again tomorrow.

August 29

Storm pulverises Pattaya

Two days after the big storm it has been raining most of the night causing this damage.

Huge pumps opposite Soi 6

Storm pulverises Pattaya

Even these smart looking pumps can’t cope with the volume of water.

Reinforcments have arrived

Storm pulverises Pattaya

Whoever has the contract for repairing the beach is making a fortune. 🙂

Hopefully this is what awaits.

Storm pulverises Pattaya

I thought I would include a photo of a beautiful Pattaya day, hopefully this weather will return soon.

Many thanks for visiting my Storm pulverises Pattaya photo blog, I must admit I really love a big storm, it’s just a shame it results in so much damge to the beach.
