Busy Chaotic Coogee Beach Sydney

Busy Chaotic Coogee Beach Sydney

Busy Chaotic Coogee Beach Sydney where on a sunny weekend thousands of people head for the pubs & restaurants as well as the famous beach.

Beach or the pool

Busy Chaotic Coogee Beach Sydney Decisions decisions, the answer is whatever you prefer. 🙂

The pool & surf club are an iconic landmark

Busy Chaotic Coogee Beach Sydney What a fabulous setting, absolutely breathtaking. Located right beside the Coogee Surf Life Saving Club.

The main attraction is the beautiful beach.

Busy Chaotic Coogee Beach Sydney This is around 5pm so most of the crowd have gome home or to the pub.

Rock pool at northern end of Coogee Beach.

Busy Chaotic Coogee Beach Sydney Late afternoon as the sun sinks in the west.

Copacabana or Coogee

Busy Chaotic Coogee Beach Sydney Seeing the beach volley ball always reminds me of Copacabana where I have been lucky enough to visit 8 times between 1999 & 2010.

This is what brings the crowds

Wonderful views from these homes.

Busy Chaotic Coogee Beach Sydney Can you imagine how much it would cost to live here?

The average Coogee home price is $2,627,000 for a house & $1,o39,500 for a condo. However these overlooking the ocean & beach would be double that.

Here are serviced apartments for rent.

Busy Chaotic Coogee Beach Sydney Amazing location overlooking the beach, ideal for a long stay. Use THIS LINK for an excellent room rate.

Would you prefer to stay in a Dive?

Busy Chaotic Coogee Beach Sydney Don’t be fooled by the name, the location is fantastic overlooking Busy Chaotic Coogee Beach Sydney. Book the Dive Hotel through THIS LINK.

Or have a BBQ

 Coogee Bay Road

Busy Chaotic Coogee Beach Sydney Lots of restaurants, cafes & flash cars.

Lots of sidewalk cafes

The older side of Coogee

Busy Chaotic Coogee Beach Sydney Many parts of Coogee are quite ancient as you can see, probably worth several million as a devlopement site here in Arden Street.

This one is certainly worth preserving.

Busy Chaotic Coogee Beach Sydney Not sure if it will be kept as a private recidence or a guest house.

Overlooking Coogee Bay

Busy Chaotic Coogee Beach Sydney As you can see Coogee is quite hilly.

Important safety message

Busy Chaotic Coogee Beach Sydney When on the beach in Australia make sure you always use sun blockout, wear a hat & swim between the flags.

In recent years I have had many skin cancers removed, doctors tell me the damge was done many years ago before I turned 16 years of age. In those days we NEVER wore hats or used sun protection.

Thanks for visiting my Busy Chaotic Coogee Beach Sydney photo blog, before you leave please check out Maroubra Beach which is a few kms south of Coogee.

Maroubra Sydney Beachside Suburb

March 25, 2017 by David Herd | 0 comments

Sunday in Maroubra

Maroubra Sydney Beachside Suburb Maroubra Sydney Beachside Suburb located 10 klms south of the city was so busy on this beautiful sunny Sunday. Just finding a place to park the car was a major frustrating excercise.

Maroubra Sydney Beachside Suburb

Maroubra Sydney Beachside Suburb Some of the expensive apartments overlooking the beach. In fact the average price of an apartment in Maroubra is around $850,000, however those in the photo would be more than double that. The average house price in the suburb is $1,840,000.

Here is what makes Maroubra famous

Maroubra Sydney Beachside Suburb Without a doubt Sydney’s beaches are among the best in the world. In my opinion the only country that can compare is Brazil, especially Florianopolis.

One of Sydney’s best surfing beaches.

photo 78c4c95e-9690-4c20-8bb0-43ea127655cb.jpg Everyone is waiting for a wave to ride.

The blue building is the surf club.

Maroubra Sydney Beachside Suburb You can clearly see the lookout tower where the lifesavers keep a close eye on the swimmers.

A favourite photo

Maroubra Sydney Beachside Suburb You have the camera man, the babe doing excercises, the Bra Boy heading for the surf & a couple just watching the action.  Bra Boys are a notorious surf gang, at their home beach Maroubra.

In December 2005 riots broke out between Muslum gangs from Sydneys Western suburbs & Eastern suburbs surfers. Follow THIS LINK for details. Contrary to popular opinion I personally was proud of the Aussie surfers that day.

That’s a huge zoom lens

Maroubra Sydney Beachside Suburb No doubt tis guy is a serious photographer. 🙂

 Important safety message

In recent years I have had many skin cancers removed, doctors tell me the damge was done many years ago before I turned 16 years of age. In those days we NEVER use sun protection.

A great family enviroment

Maroubra Sydney Beachside Suburb What a place to grow up & to have fun on a magificent beach like Maroubra.

 Sidewalk cafes

Maroubra Sydney Beachside Suburb Similar to every other Sydney beachside suburb sidewalk cafes abound.

Location

Maroubra Sydney Beachside Suburb

As you can see Maroubra lies south of other fanous beaches such as Bondi & Coogee.

Yamba Clarence River NSW Coast

March 22, 2017 by David Herd | 0 comments

Wonderful NSW coastal town

Yamba Clarence River NSW Coast Yamba Clarence River NSW Coast has a population of just over 6,000, which tends to triple in the holiday season. The economy is based on tourism & fishing. Yamba  was my 2nd stop after leaving Surfers Paradise where I had spent a week catching up with friends.

Mathew Flinders was the first European to visit Yamba Bay in July 1799.

If you live in Yamba you gotta have a boat.

Yamba Clarence River NSW Coast The fishing is wonderful all along the NSW Coast.

If you don’t have a boat…

Yamba Clarence River NSW Coast Go to one of the seafood restaurants along the Clarence River.

Or buy fresh seafood here

Yamba Clarence River NSW Coast Then sit in the park close by and enjoy it. 🙂

Or perhaps here

Yamba Clarence River NSW Coast I really love those Sydney Rock oysters (double this price in Sydney) plus the fabulous prawns.

Here is the place to eat

Yamba Clarence River NSW Coast A nice park overlooking the water is the perfect spot to polish off your prawns & oysters.

You can watch the waves rolling in

The surf was fairly rough today on March 10th 2017.

Beautiful deserted beach

Kingscliff Northern Rivers Coast NSW

March 20, 2017 by David Herd | 0 comments

Breakfast at Kingscliff

Kingscliff Northern Rivers Coast NSW Kingscliff Northern Rivers Coast NSW was my first stop after leaving Surfers Paradise where I had spent a week catching up with friends. My plan was to travel down the coast to Sydney stopping at various coastal towns on the way.

Kingscliff Northern Rivers Coast NSW

Kingscliff Northern Rivers Coast NSW A fairly typical coastal town with lots of coffee shops, tourists & terrific beaches.

For instance

Kingscliff Northern Rivers Coast NSW Miles & miles of surf & sand & deserted at 9am on Wednesday March 8th 2017.

Short walk from the beach to the shops

Kingscliff Northern Rivers Coast NSWKingscliff Northern Rivers Coast NSW is a tourist destination with a population of a little over 6,000 with beach and estuary access for swimming, surfing, fishing and all types of water sports.

 Kingscliff Northern Rivers NSW

Kingscliff Northern Rivers Coast NSW Kingscliff is only 14 kms from Coolangatta airport.

Location

Kingscliff Northern Rivers Coast NSW It’s obvious why Kingscliff is so popular given how close it is to the Gold Coast.

A beautiful day

Kingscliff Northern Rivers Coast NSW Kingscliff by the beach.

Kingscliff estuary

Kingscliff Northern Rivers Coast NSW A nice peaceful picnic area.

 Picnic area beside the estuary.

Kingscliff Northern Rivers Coast NSW Grab the morning paper & relax under the trees.

Time to hit the road & head south

Kingscliff Northern Rivers Coast NSW I got an amazing deal on my hire car from Apex, 6 days hire and drop it off at Sydney airport for only $150, a special relocation deal.

Here we go

Kingscliff Northern Rivers Coast NSW After an excellent breakfast I’m on the road again.

Hundreds of new townhouses

Kingscliff Northern Rivers Coast NSW So many new homes, the demand is obviously here.

Other towns heading south.

Kingscliff Northern Rivers Coast NSW All are nice little seaside villages, I may well wind up in this area when I return permanently to Australia in the next few years.

This was Chinderah on the way to Kingscliff.

Kingscliff Northern Rivers Coast NSW One lazy pelican and Mount Warning in the distance.

The highway to Byron Bay.

photo Driving to Byron Bay 1.jpg I thought I would bypass Byron Bay and head for Yamba.

Road tunnel

Kingscliff Northern Rivers Coast NSW Cutting through the hills.

Inside the tunnel

Kingscliff Northern Rivers Coast NSW Lucky for me there is very little traffic.

Thanks for visiting my Kingscliff Northern Rivers Coast NSW photo blog.

Adelaide seaside suburb Glenelg beach

November 20, 2015 by David Herd

Glenelg

Seaside Towns NSW Coast Australia

November 5, 2013 by David Herd

Ettalong

Ettalong central coastTowns on the NSW coast are really worth visiting, starting 80 kilometres north of Sydney we have Ettalong on the Central coast. This small town has so many wonderful memories for me as it was the place my family spent the Xmas holidays from when I was a small baby until I was a teenager. In those days the road was quite dangerous and wound around the mountains like a snake around a pole. The journey in those days took about 2.5 hours, now it’s just over an hour on the motorway.

Ettalong in 1953

Seaside Towns NSW Coast Australia Here I am at 10 years of age with young brother Warren and my grandmother Nan Tippett. Here is somewhere to stay in Ettalong with magnificent views over the water, the Tantra apartments.

Terrigal

Seaside Towns NSW Coast Australia Thirty minutes further north and a little more upmarket is Terrigal, another very popular holiday destination. Terrigal was first settled in 1826 by European Settler John Gray, who called his property Tarrygal, after the indigenous Aboriginal place name, signifying ‘place of little birds’. The town’s long beach is highly popular with tourists.

Peppers is a very nice hotel opposite the beach in Terrigal.
Port Macquarie

Seaside Towns NSW Coast Australia My favourite NSW coastal town, 400 kilometres north of Sydney, in fact my Australian residential address is here at my brother’s home. Warren has lived here for over 20 years and I always visit when I am in Australia.

Port Macquarie was first visited by Europeans in 1818 when John Oxley reached the Pacific Ocean from the interior, after his journey to explore inland New South Wales. He named the location after the Governor of New South Wales, Lachlan Macquarie.

Vintage car rally in Port Macquarie.

Seaside Towns NSW Coast Australia Port Macquarie is a retirement destination, known for its extensive beaches and waterways. The town is also known for its koala population, being the home to the Billabong Koala Park, and the Koala Preservation Society’s Koala Hospital, caring for koalas injured through bushfire, dog attacks and collisions with vehicles.

Coffs Harbour

Seaside Towns NSW Coast Australia Coffs Harbour  is  located on the north coast of New South Wales about 540 km north of Sydney, and 390 km south of Brisbane.  Coffs Harbour is one of many regional cities along the Pacific Highway between Newcastle and The Gold Coast.

Nice hotel in a good location

Coffs Harbour Observatory The Observatory hotel is just a short walk to several restaurants and cafes, the only downside is being woken early in the morning when the first train stops at the station 50 meters in front of the hotel.

Typical old Australian homestead

Seaside Towns NSW Coast Australia

A beautiful example of an early Australian homestead.

Iluka at the mouth of the Clarence River.

Seaside Towns NSW Coast Australia Iluka is a small village at the mouth of the Clarence River on the NSW coast. It is situated directly across the river from the resort town of Yamba. At the 2006 census, Iluka had a population of 1,739 people.  The town’s name is derived from an aboriginal word meaning “near the sea”.  It has long beaches on the ocean side of the river. It is reached by turning off the Pacific Highway approximately 20 kilometres north of Maclean.  As Iluka is a popular tourist destination its population increases slightly in the holiday season with many Gold Coasters in the summer and Victorians in the winter.

Byron Bay

Seaside Towns NSW Coast Australia Byron Bay is a beach-side town located in the far-north-eastern corner of the state of New South Wales. It is located 772 kilometres north of Sydney and 165 kilometres south of Brisbane.  The history of Europeans in Byron Bay began in 1770, when Captain James Cook found a safe anchorage and named Cape Byron after John Byron.

It is a resort popular with both domestic and international tourists, including backpackers, who travel along the Australian coast; the scenery also attracts skydivers. The area is also noted for its wildlife, with the whale watching industry a significant contributor to the local economy.

Byron Bay

Seaside Towns NSW Coast Australia Only a 60 drive from where I lived in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast, I would occasionally drive down for lunch at the famous pub near the beach.

Recently, Florianopolis has become one of the most popular destinations in Brazil for people who are looking for superb beaches, beautiful scenery, interesting culture and friendly people. It has also experienced a real estate boom, with Brazilians looking for a better quality of life away from the chaos of the big cities, especially from the states of São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul.

Beautiful beaches everywhere in Flori.

The city proper currently has an estimated population of 420,000 people. The Greater Florianopolis Metro area is home to about 1 million people. Florianopolis is a wonderful Brazilian city which should go on the bucket list for anyone intending to visit this wonderful country.

Bali Indonesia Surfers Paradise

August 25, 2013 by David Herd

Magnificent rice terraces

Bali Indonesia Surfers Paradise

Bali Indonesia Surfers Paradise, but personally I prefer Thailand as the best Asian destination for a number of reasons. For me there are too many Australians holidaying in Bali and being an Australian myself I really don’t want to mix with my countrymen when I am on vacation. I first visited this lovely island 40 years ago when it was calm and peaceful, now it is so busy all year round with tourists from all over the world. However as I said initially it is a great location for surfers as opposed to Thailand and many other Asian countries which don’t have large waves crashing on the shore.

Pura Tanah Lot Bali Indonesia

Bali Indonesia Surfers Paradise  Tanah Lot means “Land Sea” in the Balinese language. Located in Tabanan, about 20 kilometres (12 mi) from Denpasar, the temple sits on a large offshore rock which has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide. Tanah Lot is claimed to be the work of the 15th-century priest Nirartha. During his travels along the south coast he saw the rock-island’s beautiful setting and rested there. Some fishermen saw him, and bought him gifts. Nirartha then spent the night on the little island. Later he spoke to the fishermen and told them to build a shrine on the rock for he felt it to be a holy place to worship the Balinese sea gods.

Brazil Beautiful Exciting

July 5, 2013 by David Herd

Brazil Beautiful Exciting

Brazil Beautiful Exciting

Brazil Beautiful Exciting destination with far too many places of interest to describe in a few paragraphs. Everyone’s favorite including myself is Rio Di Janeiro, one of the most colorful cities on on the planet, however there are many other lessor known cities & towns worth visiting. Paraty is a favorite of mine, the town is located on the Bay of Ilha Grande, 3 hours drive from Rio, which is dotted with many tropical islands. Paraty is known for the  cobblestone paved streets throughout the Historic Center District. No cars or trucks are allowed in this part of town. Check out the video of two very sexy ladies doing the Samba, please click here

Three hours in the opposite direction from Rio is Búzios,  a popular getaway from the city and a worldwide tourist site, especially among wealthy Brazilians and Argentinians. The peninsula is surrounded by 17 beautiful beaches and there are many fabulous restaurants and bars to choose from. It was in 1964, when Brigitte Bardot visited the small town, that Búzios actually became well known.

ParatyBrazil Beautiful Exciting

Clad in swimwear and rags, slathered in mud, adorned with branches and bones and crying “ooga ooga ha ha”, over 3,000 people parade in Paraty every Carnival Saturday afternoon. Bloco da Lama started a few days before Carnival in 1986 when two friends were catching crabs in the mud mangroves of Jabaquara Beach, about one mile from central Paraty, and completely covered themselves with mud to stave off the area’s voracious mosquitoes and dark giant horseflies.

Apart from well known destinations like Salvador & the Iguazu Falls there are 3 places at opposite ends of the country I would like to recommend,  in the south Florianopolis which boasts of 42 beaches, in 2009 Newsweek  placed Florianópolis in the “Ten most dynamic cities of the world”. An hour north is Balneário Camboriú, with its steep hills dropping down to the sea, is very popular among South Americans but not well known to people from other countries.  The beach is twice as long as Copacabana in Rio and far safer for tourists.

Copacabana.

Brazil Beautiful Exciting

Way up in the north east corner of Brazil is Praia do Pipa, one of the most famous beaches in Brazil, 84 kilometres from the city of Natal. With its crystal-clear waters, fine, white sand it is popular with surfers and backpackers. Rio Di Janeiro however should always be your first choice, the beaches, the people, the food, the music, Carnival, New Years Eve, I could go on forever. At the end of the post  is a video of the amazing NYE crowd all dressed in white along with the nine cruise ships that were moored in the bay.  There is no gathering of people in the world to compare with Carnival in Rio Di Janeiro, do it once before you die. I have been twice to Sambadrome, once way up in the bleachers, and once right at the front, both were great but the front is the best. Sitting opposite me was the beautiful Gisele Bündchen.

I was also at Garota  de Ipanema restaurant for one Carnival with my friend Dave Wylie, there was a huge street party all around us and we had a fantastic night.
