Shangri-la | Hello from the Five Star Vagabond

Bangkok Hotels luxury budget, there are thousands of them, however I stayed at Centre Point just last week and was very happy with the whole package. My room was huge with a great city view and a full kitchen including a washing machine. In fact it was more like an apartment.

Another bonus is you can enter Robinson Shopping mall direct from the hotel.

Four minutes walk to the Saphan Taksin Skytrain, 5 minutes to the main ferry wharf at Sathorn (Central Pier).

The view at night was spectacular, however I’m sure the opposite side overlooking the river is better still.

lebua at State Tower.

State Tower contains condominiums, serviced apartments, offices and retail units. It is also home to a five-star hotel called Lebua. There is a forty-story high atrium inside, and on the 64th floor is Sirocco, the world’s highest open-air restaurant with a panoramic view of Bangkok. Staying at Lebua gives you the advantage of having Sirocco on the top floor and Breeze on the 53rd floor.

This hotel has it all, if you can afford it. Right on the river with several terrific restaurants and only a short walk to the Sky train.

Great shopping at MBK.

If you are in Bangkok to shop, and who isn’t? Then MBK should be high on your list. There are two hotels to consider which are very close to the shops. Pathumwan Princess Hotel actually forms part of MBK so you leave your room & enter the shopping center. The other hotel across the road is the Ibis or Mercure, a little less expensive than Pathumwan Princess, but it will take you 5 minutes longer to get to the shops. 😆

Bangkok Hotels on Sukhumvit.

You simply walk across the footbridge at the National Stadium Sky train station and you are in MBK.

Without a doubt AGODA is the best online Hotel booking site.

Lets go down market at the Dynasty.

The Dynasty Inn is in Sukhumvit Soi 4 Nana, a few meters from the infamous Nana Plaza. I can highly recommend this 2.5 star hotel because I have stayed there probably 50 times in the last 20 years. For lots of information regarding Nana Plaza check out my blog. Phone +66 2 656 8010 and ask for Miss Lee, tell her David Herd sent you and I’m sure you will be looked after. Room costs are between 1,500 & 2,000 Baht.

Dynasty Grande

Just around the corner at 21 Soi Sukhumvit 6, Sukhumvit Rd is the more upmarket Dynasty Grande, very good large rooms, I would rate it 3 to 3.5 stars. Rooms are around 3,000 Baht per night or $100. Bear in mind that is the same rate at Centre Point in Silom which is a much better hotel. The Dynasty however is a good choice for those who can’t resist the lure of Nana Plaza.

Citadines hotel is a great location in Soi 11 Sukhumvit to stay in Bangkok, right in the middle of the action. Mulligans 24 hour Irish pub is on the ground floor.

The rooms are compact and nicely laid out including a kitchen if you like to prepare some food.

As you would expect the rooms at the Marriot are fabulous

Looking down on the huge foyer with comfortable lounges for you to relax before heading for the shops. My two favourite shopping centres are Siam Paragon & Siam Centre which are next door to each other, and the amazing EmQuartier, put them on your list of paces to go.
