Monday nights here there are lots of specials and the place gets really crowded. The guy in the red shirt is Alan’s Las Vegas friend Jay.
Two dozen oysters = two days food poisoning
I was totally out of it for 48 hours after eating these oysters on the beach.
The Evil eye
The look on his face should have warned me about eating his oysters. He even had madman printed on his cap. 🙂
The girl from Copacabana
I was relaxing on the beach when this vision appeared in front of me. I have never been one to let a golden opportunity pass so I brushed up on my social skills and introduced myself. Her name was Mel and she came from neighbouring Niteroi. Lo & behold within an hour we were in my apartment making mad passionate love. This certainly was one on the best days of my trip. ?
Mel from Niteroi
Mel is around 6′ tall with amazing green eyes, a total knock out. It is 2015 and I still have her photo on a shelf in my condo. ?
How about those fabulous eyes?
I have to admit the fact that Mel spoke no English did not bother me at all. 🙂
John, an Aussie guy who owned “The Office” restaurant.
John was an Aussie guy from Sydney and we swapped many stories about people we knew and knew of, mainly well known Sydney gangsters. ? The following year John in fact was abducted by Brazilian gangsters who forced him to go to his home in Angra Dos Rios and pen his safe which they cleaned out.
Copacabana eye candy
One of the best locations on Earth for gorgeous females.
Late afternoon at Copacabana
Looking down from my apartment you can see the shadows staring to creep across the beach.
Kiosks on Copacabana
Every 50 meters along the beach there is a kiosk where you can buy a beer or a hamburger and watch the passing parade.
Copacabana Rio de Janeiro
Copacabana beach babes are among the sexiest girls in the world. My photo blogs with the most visits involve Brazilian babes so I thought I would add to the collection with samples from my 2 months in Rio from December 2007 to February 2008.
Making a splash
There is no better place in the world to see beautiful beach babes than Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro.
Hat, what hat, I don’t see a hat?
Now can you see a hat?
Is this a trick question? Who looks at hats on Copacabana beach?
The sea was angry that day my friends.
You don’t often see big waves at Copacabana but this particular day the surf was quite rough. In fact it was new years eve 2007 and Copacabana was preparing for a crowd of 2 million people.
Are you aware Brazil’s Primary colours are green and yellow? Just saying…………
Time for a lunch break
The prawns are very good however I was laid low for 48 hours after eating 2 dozen oysters on the beach. ?
Two pretty girls
All you need is a camera on Copacabana because the talent is unlimited. ?
Look closely you may see a tattoo
Tattoo? I don’t see a tattoo.
No tattoos here
A fabulous body like this does not need any tattoos.
Copacabana Rio de Janeiro
All my friends who know and love Rio will remember the wonderful times we had at “HELP” nightclub on Avenue Atlantica. Many thanks for visiting my Copacabana Rio de Janeiro photo blog, without any doubt in the world “you gotta love Rio”.
Beach Club Pattaya Bay is a fantastic location to enjoy a cocktail or 3 and watch the sunset. You can swim in the ocean or the 2 beautiful swimming pools.
Relax with a cold beer
No doubt this is one of the best locations in Thailand, happy hour is 5 to 7 pm every day and the food is very good.
Tapas for lunch at Beach Club Pattaya Bay
This is a great spot to have lunch, swim and check out the eye candy.
Did I mention the sunsets
We have some wonderful sunsets in Pattaya.
Sunset over the gulf of Siam.
Beach Club Pattaya Bay Seafood Buffet
The seafood feast on Friday and Saturday night was initially priced at 999 Baht but I believe now it has become more expensive.
Do you have a sweet tooth?
A huge variety of beautiful deserts.
My Australian friends
The beach club is on of the first paces I take my friends who are on holiday from Australia.
Muay Thai World Champion
This is Nathan Corbett from Australia’s Gold Coast in Thailand training for his next title fight. He absolutely loved the Beach Club. Nathan has held 11 World Champion titlesin three different weight divisions, not only is he a champion fighter he is a very nice person.
Watching the sun go down while enjoying a cocktail.
Take a look at this photo, you could be anywhere in the world.
Beach Club Pattaya Bay
grab a chair, order a cocktail and take a swim in the pool or the bay.
From memory you pay 1000 Baht or $30 usd to hire for the day, however if you spend the same amount on food and drink the tent is free.
Another view of the tents
Tents, what tents? I don’t see any tents. 🙂
Beach Club Pattaya Bay is a beautiful setting
As I said earlier you have the choice of 2 swimming pools of the sandy beach.
Salvador Bahia Brazil is on the north is Brazil’s 3rd largest city. Most of the population is in part descended from African slaves, who were mainly from Nigeria, Ghana, Togo and Benin.
Praia do Porto da Barra
We stayed in a hotel opposite this beach which is is only 5 kms from the historic centre Pelourinho.
Fort de Santa Maria
Logo Nassau organized civil guards of Recife, Paraíba and Itamaracá to reinforce the troops and set off on April 8 1638, at the head of a naval fleet of 36 units at 3,600 Europeans and Indians. He began the assault on Salvador in April 16, landing and gaining the surrender of the strong St. Albert, St. Philip and St. Bartholomew. But as Bagnuolo and the Governor-General had overcome their differences, Pernambuco army and the local garrison were united against the invasion consequently on the night of May 17 & 18 Nassau lost 300 men.
I met Monica on the beach
Mark it down as a big mistake, everything was ok for the first 2 days then she went kind of crazy. I actually cut my trip short by two days and flew back to Rio de Janeiro to catch up with Renilda, a gorgeous lady I met there the previous week.
Crazy Monica 🙂
Crazy is an understatement, anyhow after a brief fling I got out of Dodge. 🙂
The Historic Centre known as The Pelourinho is located in the western zone of the city’s centre, and was named for the whipping post (Pelourinho means Pillory) in its central plaza where African slaves received punishment for various infractions and disciplinary purposes.
The Pelourinho, is extremely rich in historical monuments dating from the 17th through the 19th centuries. Salvador was the first colonial capital of Brazil and the city is one of the oldest in the New World (founded in 1549 by Portuguese settlers). It was also the first slave market on the continent, with slaves arriving to work on the sugar plantations.
Salvador Bahia Brazil
Once the capital city of Brazil from 1549 up until 1763 when it was succeeded by Rio de Jeneiro, Salvador da Bahia is considered to be the happiest place in the country. The city is best known for its food, music and general party atmosphere due to the numerous parties that now take place there.
Salvador is the second most popular tourism destination in Brazil, after Rio de Janeiro.Tourism and cultural activity are important generators of employment and income, boosting the arts and the preservation of artistic and cultural heritage.
Chief among the points of interest are its famous Pelourinho (named after the colonial pillories that once stood there) district, its historic churches, and its beaches.
Elevator Lacerda is the first elevator Urban World. In December 1873 , when it opened, it was the highest in the world, about 63 meters.

Thanks for visiting Salvador Bahia Brazil
Thats all from Salvador Bahia Brazil, bye for now from David and crazy Monica. 🙂
Mid afternoon and you can see the crowd building up. Two million people are expected to gather tonight at Copacabana most of whom will be wearing white.
Around 4 pm the crowd builds up
Through the afternoon the crowd starts to build.
More ships arrive
Nine huge ships arrived for the show.
A burning question
Sergio, we are in Copacabana Beach New Years Eve, do you think our ship will ever come in?
Now here is how we are going to handle troublemakers
Final instruction at 5.30 pm, the Rio cops are a very mean bunch.
The shadows cover the beach
The anticipation is building, you can fell the excitement in the air.
Going home to freshen up
Copacabana Beach New Years Eve an d as far as I’m concerned she is dressed perfectly.
The party begins
Here is where I am watching the celebration, lots of food and booze, after all we did pay $400. 🙂
Here they come
I have never seen a crowd this big anywhere before.
More and more all dressed in white
Copacabana Beach New Years Eve and millions come to celebrate.
The excitement is building & more people arrive
I was in the perfect spot to see everything.
Standing room only
What a night it was, worth every cent.
In the top right hand corner you can see the Sofitel hotel, the location is perfect between Copacabana & Ipanema. For an excellent room rate just book through THIS LINK.
I’m happy to be above the crowd
Let the games begin.
The fireworks begins, 2 million people onshore and nine cruise ships anchored off the beach.
You can see five of the nine cruise ships here in this photo.
Lots of noise
Noise from the Fireworks and the amplified music that is blasting out from huge speakers along the beach.
Here is the live action
Copacabana Beach New Years Eve and the beat goes on
The noise was quite incredible.
The show went on for hours
I left around 1 am knowing I had seen the most spectacular NYE celebration in my life. The Sydney fireworks is certainly superior however when you add two million screaming people into the mix at one of the world’s great beaches it is game over.
Nana Plaza Bangkok sex sin sleaze it’s all there. I have been a frequent visitor for 20 years & have seen the LadyBoy population rise from 10% to around 40% today. This does not suit me at all, give me the sexy young girls any day. 🙂
Was Lollipop, now Suckers
I prefer the name Lollipop but I guess they are now referring to the people who enter the premises. 🙂
Here is the name a few months ago
This post is going to show you the old and the new Nana Plaza Bangkok
Nana Plaza Bangkok
Nana Plaza Bangkok seems to be forever changing not always for the better. In fact Soi Cowboy is more spectacular and the girls seem friendlier, the downside is that it is more expensive.
December 2014 with friends
I like to stay at the Dynasty Hotel which happens to be only 40 meters from Nana Plaza so it is a very convenient drinking spot for me. In the photo above is Bow, Matt Harkness and Roland Bonnici.
The Plaza comes alive after 9 pm
The later it gets the busier it becomes.
Entrance from Soi 4 to Nana Plaza Bangkok
The plaza does not look too appealing in daylight.
Nana Plaza Bangkok is square-shaped, with a single opening on the west side, and consists of a ground floor and two additional floors. It started as a restaurant area in the late 1970s. During the early 1980s, a few go-go bars appeared and gradually replaced the restaurants. The composition of the bars has changed over the past few years; the last non-go-go bar, the Woodstock Pub, was sold in 2005 to the Rainbow Group and reopened as “Rainbow 4.” A few bars offer a more pub-like or beer bar format without dancing; as of late-2009 only the Cathouse remained. Three short-time hotels operate on the top floor. Short-time hotels rent out rooms by the hour or more to the NEP patrons to take a bargirl (or kathoey) for commercial sex. Most bar girls working at bars in Nana Plaza are willing to leave with customers upon payment of a bar fine.
Spellbound is now Bangkok Bunnies
The more things change the more they stay the same. It is a never ending cycle at Nana Plaza, one business goes bust and another steps in. Bangkok Bunnies is one of the largest clubs in the complex. The photo was taken February 20 2016 as was the following YouTube video.
My favourite Nana plaza girl
Her name in Phung but to me she will always be Cleopatra. I met her at the Plaza in 2001 and for the next 7 or 8 years each time I would visit Bangkok I would look her up. She left the Plaza 3 or 4 years ago and I believe she now lives with a guy in Europe.
Most bars in Nana Plaza do not employ kathoeys, but several do so exclusively. As of mid-2013, these venues are Obsession, Voodoo (ground floor), Casanova, Temptations (middle floor), Carnival and Cascades (top floor). With the exception of Voodoo which exclusively employs post-op kathoeys, the staff at the remainder are almost all “pre-operation”, in contrast to the kathoey bars in Patpong. A number of post-op kathoeys can be found at other bars managed by the Crown Group, namely Lollipop,Hollywood Rock, Fantasia, and G-Spot as well as the independently run Erotica.
Here is Cleo in June 2006
Hard to believe 10 years has flashed by.
Nana Plaza Bangkok with some Australian friends in 2006, from the left is Tony Murphy, David Herd (me) John Sinclair & Brian Rawnsley.
Sinclair has a black list.
There are quite a few of us on s black lit so I thought I would design a shirt in appreciation. 🙂
More friends at Nana in 2008
Good friends Nick & Sharon from the Gold Coast and Rod Perrin from the NSW central coast who lived in Pattaya. RIP
Here is a quick video from 2008
Nana Plaza 1999
Poor quality photos from the early digital cameras.
Sexy Babes Copacabana Beach in 2005 and I was there to help them have a great time. Probably one of my best trips to Rio, in fact it may have been the best. Good friends, beautiful women & lots of fun.
Above is a perfect example of the beautiful sexy Brazilian girls who flock to Rio from all over Brazil at Carnival time. On the left is Samantha with one of the most beautiful smiles I have ever seen. I was lucky enough to spend some time with her.
Samantha, oh what a smile.
Samantha came from the country outside of Rio, I tried to contact her again when I returned in 2007 but the language barrier made it just too difficult to speak on the phone. I should have tried harder.
Haniball Lector lookalike
Carnivalis party time, there are so many wonderful characters, no wonder they call it the greatest show on Earth.
Another beautiful face in Copacabana
Her name is Sylvia, a friend of Dave Wylie.
Tall & tanned & young & lovely
During the day the beach is the place to be and to be seen.
Back to Samantha at Copacabana.
Yes, the more I think about it the more I think this was my best Rio trip.
Sensational bikini babe at Copacabana
This beautiful girl in the orange bikini has the most wonderful skin colour, among everything else of course. 🙂
I really had to look twice to be sure she was real 🙂
That is what I call a very healthy well built girl, her name is Irene, you gotta love Rio.
Doug, & two Daves at Copacabana.
Doug is the guy kissing the lady, he sadly passed away a year or two after this photo was taken. A very nice man who’s company is missed by all his friends. Dave Sommer is in the middle, he lived & worked in Sao Paulo, Sadly he was brutally murdered on January 11 2015. Dave Wylie is now in Crescent City and thinking about returning to Thailand in 2015.
OK, back to the babes
Not too much has to be said about this photo, it seems to speak for itself. I must point out however that sexy topless girls are rare in Rio de Janeiro, one of the few locations is on Copacabana Beach in front of the Orthon Hotel.
Talking about hotels in Rio, if you want a very good discount just book through THIS LINK.
Copacabana is packed at Carnival
Naturally the beaches are very crowded around Carnival & the weather in February is usually magnificent.
Tatiane & Marcelli, gorgeous girls.
My friend Dave Wylie introduced me to Tatiane & Marcelli, two absolutely gorgeous Brazilian girls.
What was her name?
I forget her name, but I spent some time with her after meeting her on the beach. 🙂
Surfs up at Copacabana
Quite unusual to see such a rough surf here, usually the waves are quite gentle compared to other Brazilian & Australian beaches, especially Sydney at Bondi.
Another beautiful face
My favourite spot of an evening was the side-walk restaurant outside HELP nightclub. It was such a great scene, quite a large rectangular area and dozens of beautiful girls would circle it hoping for an invitation to sit down and have a drink with you. It was a little like the wild west days when the Indians would surround the wagons. 🙂
Evening wear Copacabana style.
At carnival timeanything goes in the fashion stakes as you can plainly see. 🙂
I’ll try anything to attract a lady
There is no trick I won’t try to attract a ladies attention. Do you think this strategy is sending the right message?
Age is no barrier
An 85 yo American guy having a ball, age is no barrier in Copacabana at Carnival.
I keep coming back to Samantha
Her lovely smile would light up a room, I’m just thankful it was my room. 🙂
Sexy Babes Copacabana Beach
160,000 people live in Copacabana and 44,000 or 27.5% of them are 60 years old or older.Copacabana covers an area of 7.84 km which gives the borough a population density of 20,400 people per km². Residential buildings eleven to thirteen stories high built right next to each other dominate the borough. Houses and two-story buildings are rare. When Rio was the capital of Brazil this was considered one of the best neighbourhoods in the country if not the best. Therefore the sea front apartments are extremely luxurious and classical. In the 1970s the neighbourhood descended in the social scales and now is one of the most overcrowded in the planet.
Dave Wylie in his element.
One of the sexy babes with my good friend Dave who lived in Rio for around 10 years & speaks fluent Portuguese. He was the motivation for me to start my travel blog in June 2013.
My lovely friend Jackie
We met on the internet 3 years ago and have been friends ever since. Jackie has two children & speaks 3 languages, Italian, English & Portuguese. We are dining at Milano Doc between Copacabana & Ipanema in Rio De Janeiro.
What about those beautiful eyes?
This is beautiful Diana, all 39 kilos of her. 🙂
The girl with the fluffy tail
Here is Leila, as I said before anything goes in fashion when Carnival is on.
These sexy babes caught me with the camera.
Sprung again, this is one of my favourite photos, I love the look on her face when she caught me taking the photo.
Amazing Iguazu Falls Brazil are the most spectacular falls I have ever seen. Sadly I have not been to Niagara or Victoria falls to make a comparison .
Amazing Iguazu Falls, Brazil
It was 1999 and my first digital camera took rather poor photos.
Dalia from Bolivia at Foz.
This is my lovely friend Dalia from Santa Cruz in Bolivia, we traveled by the “Death Train” from Santa Cruz to the Brazilian border & crossed at Corumba, then by bus through the Pantanal to Foz do Iguazu.
Dalia sleeping on the “Death Train”.
There are several theories as to how this name came to be. One theory is that the mosquitoes are so bad during the rainy season, you’ll get “eaten alive” throughout the entire long trip, or contract malaria and die later. Another theory is that people riding on top of the train (not uncommon) fall asleep and fall to their deaths (quite uncommon). Actually, it is called the Death Train because many workers died while building this railroad.
Quijarro on the border.
We walked across the border and caught a taxi to the customs office, it reminded me of the last frontier in the wild west. My suspicions were aroused when the border guard asked for a credit card to prove I had money. When he disappeared with the card & my passport I knew I was in trouble. Sure enough 2 weeks later when I was in Salvador my credit card was cancelled by the bank. $13,000 had been charged all over Brazil, luckily Visa were very quick to advance me $3000 to get me through the trip. On returning to Australia I just signed a few forms & everything was fixed.
Amazing Iguazu Falls
When she sawIguazu Falls, the United States First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt reportedly exclaimed “Poor Niagara!” (which, at 50 m or 165 feet, are a third shorter). Often Iguazu Falls also is compared with Victoria Falls in Southern Africa, which separates. Iguazu is wider, but because it is split into approximately 275 discrete falls and large islands, Victoria has the largest curtain of water in the world, at more than 1,600 m (5,249 ft) wide and over 100 m (328 ft) in height (in low flow Victoria is split into five by islands; in high flow it may uninterrupted). The only wider falls are extremely large rapid-like falls, such as the Boyoma Falls.
Amazing view from Brazilian side
I certainly want to visit this amazing place again. Next time I will have a far better camera. 🙂
hydroelectric dam on the Paraná River located on the border between Brazil and Paraguay. The name “Itaipu” was taken from an isle that existed near the construction site. In the Guaraní language, Itaipu means “the sounding stone”.
Dalia at the Falls
After a few days at the falls Dalia & I parted ways, she went back to Bolivia & I went to meet friends in Brazil.
Iguazu falls from the Brazilian side.
Next trip I will also see the Argentinian side of the falls.
The Devils throat
Without a doubt this visit was one of the greatest experiences of my life.
In modern restaurants rodízio service is typically offered. Passadores (meat waiters) come to the table with knives and a skewer, on which are speared various kinds of meat, In most parts of Brazil, the churrasco is roasted with charcoal. In the south of Brazil, however, mostly close to the borders of Argentina and Uruguay, embers of wood are also used.
Beautiful Dalia, 23 years old.
Such a beautiful young girl, I often wonder about her and hope she is well and happy.
Please note, this is not part of my Travel Blog. It’s part of my personal history.
Adelaide 1972 exciting amazing life for me, it seemed all the planets were perfectly in line to produce perhaps two of the best years of my life.
Planet one, I was 29 years old and in my prime.
Planet two, I was sent there by Sanyo Office Equipment to be State manager on a Sydney wage package, which was around 50% better than an equivalent Adelaide salary.
Planet three, there was an excess number of gorgeous single women waiting to be swept off their feet, and most motivated talented young Adelaide businessmen had headed to the Eastern capital cities to work, because that’s where all the head offices were with most of the top work opportunities.
Mid 70s in Adelaide
All my planets were aligned in Adelaide 1972
So here I was, the new boy in town with loads of money, motivation and truck loads of confidence. It was a similar situation to my arrival in Melbourne four years earlier except I felt decades wiser and totally bulletproof.
I remember the drive from Sydney in my blue MGB, flashing along the highway with the number one tune at the time playing over and over, American Pie by Don McLean. In some way the lyrics seemed to me to symbolise a new beginning, I was excited by the thought of new horizons to conquer, new people to meet and of course new ladies to pursue.
A long, long time ago… I can still remember how that music used to make me smile. And I knew if I had my chance That I could make those people dance And maybe, they’d be happy for a while.
Anzac Highway Plympton
The first thing I did was rent a luxury Penthouse on Anzac Highway Plymton in the most prestigious residential building in Adelaide, it was known as “the Spanish Flats” and before too long I turned my apartment into “Party Central”.
The only Adelaide people I knew were Joyce Weir and Vera Lukic, two fun girls I had met a couple of months before while they were holidaying in Sydney. They were both very social out and about types who happily introduced me to many of “the right’ people, party animals like myself.
Another early contact was Charlie Bradley, and neighbour on the ground floor, a good style of a guy who like myself dedicated most of his spare time pursuing the fairer sex. The following year Charlie banned everyone from using that name and insisted on being referred to as Charles, obviously much more refined.
Vera Lukic & Joyce Weir
Two great ladies, sadly Vera passed away around 2012, Joyce lives in Sydney and I still often see on Facebook.
Drinks with friends at Plympton
My circle of friends started to swell exponentially due to these early contacts, and soon ten minutes on the phone was all it took to arrange the next party at my Penthouse. Along came a host of new friends, Wolf Wottke, Graham & John Farquhar, Mike Poulter, Dave Brooker, Dick Wilkins, Ronny Walsh from Broken Hill, Steve Rado, Jan Seagars, Dianne Butson and many others, but more about them later.
Steve was my flatmate in the Penthouse and was I think often quite shocked by the constant shenanigans. A great guy who now in 2015 lives on the Sunshine coast I think. We stay in touch on Facebook, this photo was from 1979 in Sydney.
How time flies when you are having fun, 41 years have past between the previous 2 photos.
This shot was actually in 1975
Taken at Dick Wilkins home in 1975, I thought it was worth including as all the people were close friends when I lived in Adelaide. Angella Savic, Hank Wottke, Di Parkinson & Trevor Beech.
Richard (Dick) Wilkins Adelaide 1972 amazing life
Dick Wilkins was a terrific guy who lived one kilometre away on Cross road Edwardstown, probably the only guy I knew who threw more parties than I, (a lot more) so between the two of us it was nonstop hedonistic heaven.
Angella Savic & Wolf Wottke
Wolf became my best friend while I was living in Adelaide 1972, he eventually left Adelaide and moved into my apartment in Sydney around 1983. Angella also moved to Sydney and became a Qantas hostess, a job I believe she still does to this day. Wolf & Angie were an item for a few years then he hooked up with Jenny, another Greek girl in Sydney. They are still together today.
My favourite Adelaide girl Adelaide 1972 amazing life
Di Butson was a beautiful girl with a lovely nature, if I ever should have married a lady it would have been Di. However at that time of my life in Adelaide 1972 I was just too wild & committed to being single to change my status. Over the years however I sometimes think of Di & how different my life could have been.
Perhaps Glenn Frey can help me here
Dianne’s 21st birthday
Di was one of the nicest ladies I ever knew, I often wonder how life turned out for her.
Did I mention Di was a dancer?
Di was also a teacher with Arthur Murray dance studio in Adelaide.
Jan Seagars & Baxter
Here are three of my favourite memories from when I lived in Adelaide 1972, Jan Seagars, Baxter my red Doberman & my wonderful E-Type Jaguar. Baxter & the Jag came with me to Melbourne in 1974 then on to Sydney in 1976, sadly Jan did not. 🙂
My apartment block and the ones on either side became our own self contained fun park; I could write a book just based on the events that took place there. Six or seven of my friends all ended up living in the complex. One great looking 18 year old was living in the block next door, her name was Jan Seagars and her boyfriend was a well known Norwood football player named Des Flavel.
Jan & I had a nice arrangement going, Des would leave for work at 8 am, and if my bedroom blind was open 50%, it would mean I was alone and she was welcome to visit. Which she did on many occasions, this gave me just enough time for a “quickie” before opening the Sanyo office in Grote St at 9am. Jan had recently won the title of Miss South Australian Beach Girl and at 18 years of age was as close to perfect as a girl could get.
Here I am at Darwin airport with Arch Wilkey & the Ansett hosties from my flight. On the right is Sue, Leah is in the middle & I forget the name of the blonde on the left. Arch was a well know footballer with North Adelaide. Now you can laugh all you want at my crazy red outfit, but I soon got rid of it as you will see in the next photo taken a couple of hours later. 🙂
North Adelaide premiership player Arch Wilkey died on the 29 th September 2007 at the age of 61 after a long battle with an inoperable brain tumour. Arch played 73 games for North Adelaide between 1966 and 1974 and was a member of the 1971 premiership side. He was a mercurial footballer who epitomised the North Adelaide style of the late 1960s. North were renowned as a high marking, long kicking side full of brilliant players and Arch fitted the mould perfectly. It is contended that Arch was the first player to make the number 23 as famous as it is today – being followed by the likes of Michael Jordan, Dermott Brereton, Shane Warne, David Wildy and Andrew McLeod. No doubt each was inspired by Arch’s brilliance as an athlete and chose to wear “his” number.
In his early career he played mainly at half forward but when Mike Patterson came to the club Arch played more as a defender. Injury curtailed his career. He missed the complete 1972 season with a knee injury, and after playing in the 1973 preliminary final missed the Grand Final with injury. He retired in 1974 and moved to Darwin to live. As much as Arch was remembered as a brilliant player, he was also known as a wonderful and happy character. Soon after he moved to Darwin, Cyclone Tracey hit. When asked what it was like, Arch replied that it was almost as scary as playing Port at Alberton.
On the way to Manton Dam
Adelaide 1972 exciting amazing life with Leah & Sue
Manton Dam 70 Kms south of Darwin
Leah & Sue at Manton dam
Lets see more of Leah 🙂
Those were the days my friend we thought they would never end.
Bob (Fatty) Francis
Another old friend of mine was well know DJ Bob Francis, he retired in 2013 after 57 years in Radio. This photo was from 1997, sadly I just received the news in November 2016 that Bob has passed away peacefully in his sleep, RIP old mate.
Thanks for visiting my Adelaide 1972 exciting amazing life photo blog.
Kabukicho Tokyo the sleepless town, an entertainment and red-light district in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Kabukicho is the location of many host and hostess clubs, love hotels, shops, restaurants, and nightclubs, and is often called the “Sleepless Town”
Kabukicho Tokyo has transformed from a residential area to a world famous red-light district housing over three thousand bars, nightclubs, love hotels, massage parlours, hostess clubs and the like. Although referred here as a “red light district”, there are no red lights in the literal sense with prostitutes in the windows as in Amsterdam.
According to a spokesperson of Metropolitan Tokyoin 2004, there are more than 1,000 yakuza members in Kabukicho, and 120 different enterprises under their control.
Entering the new millennium, laws were more strictly enforced and patrols became more frequent. These, adding to the installation of fifty closed-circuit cameras in May 2002, reduced criminal activities here, amidst controversy.
In 2004, the police undertook an operation clamping down on illegal clubs and brothels, causing many to go out of business. Also, there is a movement to rid this area of the yakuza (“bad hand” gangs), known as the Kabukicho Renaissance.

Neon lights everywhere in Kabukicho
Kabukicho Tokyo was a great place to stay as there is always something to see & do. Also it is close to Piss Ally, one of my favorite spots inTokyo.
An Australian influence?
You gotta love Wombat herbs. 🙂
A typical Kabukicho neon.
One of many love hotels
Kabukicho is the largest red light district in Asia.
Another love hotel
You have the option to pay for a short stay or all night, up to you.
It really is the town that never sleeps
They say the neon lights are bright on Broadway, but for me Kabukicho Tokyo is the world’s brightest city.
Amsterdam sex drugs & bicycles are what comes to mind when I think of this great city. The red light district attracts tourists like moths to a flame. Marijuana is freely available if that’s your thing, & every time you walk down the street you are in danger of being run down by Cyclists who believe the roads & footpaths were built exclusively for them to use.
In Amsterdam, this is the only windmill I saw, I know there are many more in the country however my 6 days were spent exploring the city.
My journey started & ended here at the very busy Central station. I arrived by train from the airport and my wonderful B & B was only a five minute walk, then 6 days later I caught the fast train to Brussels.
Did I mention bicycles by any chance?
Authorities say there are well over 600.000 bikes in Amsterdam. The population is 747,290 in Amsterdam proper, and 2,158,592 in the metropolitan area.
Opposite Central station
Amsterdam, capital of the Netherlands, has more than one hundred kilometers of canals, about 90 islands and 1,500 bridges.
Lots of good restaurants
There are hundreds of restaurants to choose from in Amsterdam, just wander around until one catches your eye.
Fresh seafood in Amsterdam.
THE FRESH SEAFOOD LOOKED FANTASTIC.
Late night cafe
This is one of my favourite Amsterdam photos, I was wandering around the back alleys looking for somewhere to dine.
Ava Thomas, Italian restaurant
This Italian restaurant was the one I chose, nice food at a reasonable price.
The Grasshopper — one of the world’s best-known Cannabis cafés — is no longer selling cannabis, hash, or related products. The coffee shop located in landmark building across from Central Station, is one of the first of more than two dozen such shops in and around the Red Light District that are to be closed down over the next few years. Amsterdam want to create a “grand entrance” — Amsterdam’s ‘visiting card’ — to include high quality hotels, shops and restaurants — and coffee shops simply don’t fit into that picture. To make this ‘grand entrance’ a reality, in December 2007 Amsterdam introduced Coalition Project 1012. Named after the postal code for downtown Amsterdam, the project is designed to clean up the entire medieval center of the city. That includes the Red Light District, where the city has been working to take back control over the area from what one alderman referred to as ‘riff-raff.’ The project’s goals are to ban window prostitution from all but two locations, close down businesses set up with (or ‘susceptible to the involvement of’) white-washed money, reduce the number of coffee shops in the area, combat organized crime, and to promote the ‘Red Carpet’ vision. At the introduction of Project 1012, then-alderman Lodewijk Asscher said that Amsterdam wants to recapture the historic city center in order to “give it back to the Amsterdammers.” Clearly, it’s not just the locals the City council was thinking about, but also well-heeled tourists more interested in fine dining and upscale shopping than in using soft drugs. Sadly if this eventuates Amsterdam will never be the same. NB: Coffeeshop (yes, one word) is a Dutch euphemism for establishments where soft drugs are legally sold and used. Enjoy this while you can.
Amsterdam sex drugs & bicycles
De Wallen is the largest and best known red-light district in Amsterdam and consists of a network of alleys containing approximately three hundred one-room cabins rented by prostitutes who offer their sexual services from behind a window or glass door, typically illuminated with red lights. These “kamers” are the most visible and typical kind of red light district sex work in Amsterdam and are a large tourist attraction. Amsterdam sex drugs, you can count on it.
De Wallen Amsterdam
I imagine this whole district will just move to another location, Amsterdam can’t afford to lose the millions of tourists that come to see the RLD with Amsterdam sex drugs & rock & roll. 🙂
Amsterdam sex drugs & rock & roll
It really is a wonderful city.
Window shopping at its best
May I remind you when I think of Amsterdam I think of sex drugs & bicycles. 😆

As with other countries, estimates regarding the total number of prostitutes vary. Most sources place this number between 15,000 and 30,000. An article published in 1997 in the International Encyclopedia of Sexuality claimed that the total number of prostitutes in the Netherlands was about 15,000 to 20,000. CATW has stated that there were 30,000 prostitutes in the Netherlands, citing “Sex tax Ticks off Dutch,” Associated Press, 14 October 1997. According to Radio Netherlands, in 1999, there were estimated to be 25,000 prostitutes in the Netherlands, with 12,500 working at any one time at a total of 6,000 locations. A later study by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2000 estimated that there were a total of between 20,000 and 25,000 prostitutes in the Netherlands

Watching the boats
This bridge was 30 meters from my B & B and 20 meters from my favorite restaurant, De Belhamel.
I had dinner twice here and on two other evenings called in to the delightful bar for a nightcap.
Lamb at De Belhamel
The Australian lamb at De Belhamel was magnificent, put this delightful restaurant on your list.
De Belhamel bar
That’s my red wine sitting on the bar, this was my compulsory stop before retiring for the night.
de belhamel is Dutch for “the rascal” – literally translated, but the Dutch translate it as “naughty child”
My friend visits in September 2015
The blonde lady Joyce Weir has been a friend of mine for over 40 years, I told her about this great restaurant, I’m so pleased she took her friends there, naturally they loved it. 🙂
One of the 2500 house boats in Amsterdam
All year long canal tours show people from all over the world how amazing the historical canal houses of Amsterdam look from the water. Some people enjoy this view every day from their own houseboat. Holland counts many houseboats, but Amsterdam holds the record with approximately 2500 houseboats.
Always lots of activity on the canals.
There is never a dull moment in Amsterdam.
Another good restaurant close to where I was staying.
NEMO proves that there is a fun way to learn more about science and technology. The largest science center in the Netherlands has five floors full of exciting things to do and discover. All your senses will be stimulated by exhibitions, theatre performances, films, workshops and demonstrations.
The replica of the three masted “Amsterdam”
The replica of the three masted “Amsterdam”, a large vessel of the Dutch East India Company, which in its maiden journey to Batavia sank in a storm in the English Channel in winter of 1749, stands high above the waters of Ij Bay, directly at the museum quay. The wreck of the ship has been discovered off the English coast in 1969, and the museum replica has been completed in 1990. Visiting the ship, you may see how small and primitive spaces were to house 350 people during the ship’s journey, with more comfortable but equally minute quarters for the ship’s captain and officers.
A wonderful B & B
Of all the places I stayed on my “seven super cities” adventure, my B & B in Amsterdam was the best accommodation by a long shot. There are only 2 apartments in the building beside the delightful couple Tony & Loes who live there.
The breakfast room
The location was perfect, only 10 minutes walk to Central Station and close to shops & restaurants.
What a fabulous city.
Amsterdam sex drugs & bicycles is one of my favourite posts, I hope you enjoyed it.
The Luxer is a short walk from the station, use THIS LINK for a discount.
