Koh Samui main street

Central Festival

Koh Samui main street

Koh Samui main street

Koh Samui busy main street runs parallel to Chaweng Beach and has hundreds of shops, restaurants & pubs. Central Festival is a huge new shopping mall with all to usual outlets. On the ground floor in this photo is my favourite restaurant The Wine Connection.

Central Festival is in Koh Samui main street

Koh Samui main street

The shopping mall covers a huge area from Koh Samui main street to the back road beside the lake.

Koh Samui busy main street

There is a food court, Starbucks, lots of restaurants, phone shops and all the fashion houses.

Solo

Koh Samui main street

Solo is one of the many popular bars on Koh Samui main street.

Lots of massage parlours.

Koh Samui main street

A one hour massage is around B300 however you can find them as low as B200 if you look around.

Massage on the beach at Baan Chaweng

Chaweng Beach Koh Samui Island

Entrance to all the beach-side hotels is from the Koh Samui main street, here is where I usually stay at the Baan Chaweng. The location is perfect, for an excellent room rate just book through THIS LINK.

LadyBoy show

Koh Samui main street

Thailand is famous for it’s LadyBoy shows and Samui is no different. If that’s what you want to see then Starz is the place to go.

Lots of fresh seafood

Koh Samui main street

There are many restaurants offering fresh seafood all along Koh Samui main street.

Koh Samui busy main street   Sports pubs

Koh Samui excellent sports bars

All these sports pubs have multiple screens showing sport from all over the world.

No more overhead wires in Chaweng

Koh Samui main street

A step in the right direction, sadly however Samui is like a ghost town in June 2021 due to Covid-19.

Samui map

Koh Samui busy main street

As you can see Chaweng Beach is only 15 minutes from the airport. Be careful when organising transport to & from your hotel, the majority of people will overcharge you. For instance our hotel told us a taxi would cost B200 for one person and B300 for two people, how ridiculous is that?

Navigo Samui is a new company offering a very fair price, B200 for a taxi, you can download their app here.

Samui airport

Koh Samui main street

I think Samui airport is the nicest airport I have ever flown to or from.

We took a 4 hour taxi ride around Koh Samui at a cost of B2000, it was a great way to explore the delights of this wonderful tropical island, we had a very nice lady driver, her name in Ying and her mobile is 09 1128 3867. Check out some of the great things to see, just follow THIS LINK.

Thanks for visiting my Koh Samui main street photo blog.

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

March 7, 2015 by David Herd

Lots to do in Zagreb

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants are everywhere, what really surprised me however is the amount of outdoor seating with large heaters to keep you warm. I arrived March 6th and it was freezing.

Check out the temperature

Everyone is wearing coats

The cold days don’t seem to bother the locals in the outdoor bars.

Rugged up for evening drinks

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

The overhead heaters are very warm indeed, the problem is my back was freezing. Another problem for me is they smoke inside the restaurants as well.

Main Square

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

From my hotel window is Main Square or Ban Jelačić Square.

Josip Jelačić

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

Josip Jelačić was the Ban of Croatia between 23 March 1848 and 19 May 1859. He was a member of the House of Jelačić and a noted army general, remembered for his military campaigns during the Revolutions of 1848 and for his abolition of serfdom in Croatia.

Buskers in Zagreb

Three buskers doing their best to earn some money in Zagreb.

Here is a sample of their haunting music

“>Hotel Dubrovnik

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

The hotel is in a perfect location overlooking the Main Square. Nice rooms with free internet, I got a great rate by booking through Agoda.

Zagreb Cathedral

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

The Zagreb Cathedral on Kaptol is a Roman Catholic institution and the tallest building in Croatia.

Leonardo Restaurant

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

Good food and wine at a very reasonable price. Pasta and 2 glasses of Merlot for $18 aud.

Leonardo Restaurant

A narrow lane in Zagreb.

Statue of Petrica Kerempuh

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

Standing in a small square filled with flower stalls is a mischievous looking statue of Petrica Kerempuh, the work of sculptor Vanja Radauš. A much-loved character from Croatian literature, Petrica Kerempuh is a plebeian prophet, rascal and cynical commentator on contemporary events, a sort of predecessor of modern standup comedians. His most notable incarnation can be found in “The Ballads of Petrica Kerempuh” (1936), written by Croatia’s leading 20th-century writer Miroslav Krleža.

Statue of August Šenoa

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

I’m not sure what this simple sculpture represents.

Perhaps he is waiting for a bus. 🙂

The Corner Bar

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

A very nice cafe with good coffee, service  and nice decor.

Late night drinks at the Corner Bar

 Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

This friendly bar quickly became my favorite spot in Zagreb

Bulldog Bar & restaurant

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

A very nice upmarket bar with one major problem, 70% of the customers are smoking which for me spoils the whole atmosphere.

Bulldog Bar

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

The smoke nearly killed me, but is was so cold outside I had to grin and bear it.

Boban restaurant

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

A very good low price restaurant located about 200 meters from the Main square.

Cannelloni at Boban

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

Very nice food here, put it on your bucket list.

Dolac Market

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

Dolac is a farmers’ market and is the most visited and the best known farmer’s market in Zagreb.

Main Square from my hotel

Fabulous view of the main square from my hotel window.

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

There were many restaurants only 10 minutes walk from my hotel.

Agava rated 3rd from 394 on tripAdviser

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

For me however I was not to impressed with the food. I have a feeling they cater for tourists and I guess they are the people who do the reviews on TripAdviser.

Marija Jurić Zagorka

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

In a 2005 poll compiled by Vjesnik, a Zagreb daily newspaper, Zagorka came second in the list of most popular Croatian writers of all time.

Vinodol at Ulica Nikole Tesle 10

Super hero in Main Square

There was always something happening in main square.

Time to catch a train to Split

Zagreb Croatia bars restaurants

I actually had a terrible train trip to Budapest, I should have taken the bus. There were so many delays the journey took about 4 hours longer than it should have.
