Gather Ground Payaa Hotel

March 2, 2022 by David Herd

Gather Ground Payaa Hotel

Gather Ground Payaa Hotel

Gather Ground Payaa Hotel situated in Soi 2 North Pattaya is ony 5 minutes walk from my condo. It offers very good food & excellent coffee.

Entrance from Soi 2

Gather Ground Payaa Hotel

Located halfway between Beach Rd & 2nd Rd.

Coffee was excellent

Gather Ground Payaa Hotel

I visit Starbucks once or twice every day, but I must admit this coffee was far better. It’s a shame they don’t give the choice of a large mug as well as a cup.

Interesting wall prints

Gather Ground Payaa Hotel

In fact they have included a lot of interesting prints & furniture.

Interesting coffee tables. πŸ™‚

Gather Ground Payaa Hotel

It’s nice to see some unusual objects. πŸ™‚

Chandeliers

Gather Ground Payaa Hotel

Lot’s of different areas to sit in peace & quiet. πŸ™‚

Outdoor seating

Gather Ground Payaa Hotel

Must be catering for the smokers, why else would you sit out in the heat?

Lunch was excellent

Gather Ground Payaa Hotel

Hong Kong noodles were as good as I have had anywhere. In fact the food impressed me so much I dined 2 days in a row. πŸ™‚

Breakfast is B450 or $19 AUD, I’ll stick with the Queen Victoria in Soi 6, breakfast is B99. πŸ™‚

Feels like a library

Gather Ground Payaa Hotel

A lot of thought has gone into the decor as you can clearly see.

Lunch two days in a row

Gather Ground Payaa Hotel

Chicken teriyaki was excellent, as was the coffee afterwards. The service is also very good, the waiter continually tops up my glass of water. πŸ™‚

Coffee grinder

Gather Ground Payaa Hotel

Every home should have one, don’t you agree? πŸ™‚ You can see my reflection lurking in the background.

Location

Gather Ground Payaa Hotel

Easy to find & close to the Baht bus route. Luckily it’s only five minutes walk from my condo in Markland on Beach Road. πŸ™‚

Many thanks for visiting my Gather Ground Payaa Hotel photo blog, make sure you visit as the food & coffee is exceptional.

Fat Coco A-One Hotel

July 24, 2021 by David Herd

Fat Coco A-One Hotel

Fat Coco A-One Hotel

Fat Coco A-One Hotel is a rather unsusual name, I have no idea what it means or what it stands for. Having said all that I was able to follow the entire building process from my balcony on the 21st floor of Markland Condo. The shot above was how it used to look before somebody decided to spoil what was an attractive unusual landmark on Beach Road.

OK, lets do it.

Fat Coco A-One HotelThis particular construction started on the 31st of January 2021.

January 19 2021

Fat Coco A-One HotelWhat a great view from my balcony, I have lived in Markland for 10 years.

Up come the tiles

Fat Coco A-One Hotel

Next job is the demolish the beautiful swimming pool. This is what I call a very cunning plan. πŸ™‚

After all, who needs a nice pool at a Beach resort?

Fat Coco A-One Hotel

Far greater minds than I know the answer. πŸ™‚

Now we are getting somewhere

Fat Coco A-One HotelI have always been of the belief, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. That logic certainly does not apply here. πŸ™‚

What a fabulous locating

Fat Coco A-One HotelPattaya beach in all it’s glory.

Those trees have to go.

Fat Coco A-One HotelReplace them with concrete please. πŸ™‚

Bring in the excavators

Fat Coco A-One HotelThose palms will be “gone baby gone”.

Fat Coco A-One Hotel February 23rd 2021

Fat Coco A-One HotelAs you can see progress is being made.

Thats my condo in the background

Fat Coco A-One HotelI get an excellent view of the renovation from the 21st floor.

We need some bamboo

Fat Coco A-One Hotel

Bamboo will certainly enhanse the tropical theme. πŸ™‚

Pattaya Beach

Fat Coco A-One HotelRight across the road is Pattaya Beach.

The finished product

Fat Coco A-One HotelAt the rear of this new section is a very nice restaurant & bar called Malibrew, please check out THIS LINK.

Many thanks for visiting

Surf and Turf Pattaya

February 24, 2021 by David Herd

Surf and Turf Pattaya

Surf and Turf Pattaya

Surf and Turf Pattaya is located at the front of the 4-star Long Beach Garden Hotel. For a more accurate description replace Pattaya with Naklua. The photo above is the original restaurant, the following shots taken in February 2021 will show the new section which is currently not in use due to having few customers because of the Coronavirus.

The new section

Surf and Turf Pattaya

It more than doubles the size of the original section.

Lots of surfboards feature

Surf and Turf Pattaya

However I have never seen a surf in Pattaya. πŸ™‚

Outdoor section

Surf and Turf Pattaya

My preference is inside in front of a fan, however today was February 24 2021 & the breeze coming off the bay was magnificent.

Surf and Turf Pattaya

Surf and Turf Pattaya

A very popular restaurant, there always seems to be more Thai people than foreigners.

Avocado smoothie

Surf and Turf Pattaya

At B140 it was fairly average, I did have high hopes as I do love avocado. πŸ™‚

Hamburger

Surf and Turf Pattaya

With prawns, the beef patty was very good, as were the fries. One of the features of this nice restaurant is the huge choice of dishes, both western & Thai, the staff are very nice as well.

If you prefer a quieter location to stay rather than Pattaya, the Longbeach Hotel is a good choice, especially with their beachside restaurant the Surf & Turf. For a very good room discount just follow THIS LINK.

Before you leave please check out my original Surf & Turf photo blog HERE.

Historic Hydro Majestic Hotel

December 8, 2020 by David Herd

Historic Hydro Majestic Hotel

Historic Hydro majestic Hotel

Historic Hydro Majestic Hotel is located in Medlow Bath, New South Wales, Australia. The hotel is located on a clifftop overlooking the Megalong Valley on the western side of the Great Western Highway.

The Australian retailer Mark Foy began to purchase the site in 1902 for the purposes of a hydropathic sanatorium under the belief that the land contained mineral springs. By the time the hotel opened in 1904, the mineral springs (if they ever existed) had dried up. Mark Foy had mineral water imported from Germany in large steel containers. For more about the hotel history just follow THIS LINK.

Perched on the side of a cliff

Here we are, the A team. πŸ™‚

Historic Hydro majestic Hotel From left to right, Vera Lucic & Adrian Yates, Joan Mifsud & yours truly David Herd, Susie & Rod Hitchcock, Gina & Don Reedman.

Adrian was & still is a lawyer in Wollongong, Don went to England in 1969 from Australia on a working holiday for 12 months with a dream of making a career in the music business. He certainly achieved huge success, check out THIS LINK. Here is some of his work.

Rod ended up in California, where the girls wound up, except for Vera who married Adrian, I will never know. πŸ™‚

Here’s 3 handsome dudes

Historic Hydro majestic Hotel Adrian Yates, Ian Rich & Paul Webber. After all these years I still occasionally see Ian when he visits Thailand. For the last 40 years he has owned a tennis camp at Huntington Beach in Los Angeles.

Derek Pugh & Jackie Thom

Derek & I worked together at Macdougals LTD in Clarence St Sydney in the late 60s. He ended up importing high class stereo equipment & is now retired & living on the Central Coast north of Sydney. I remember being at a BBQ at Derek’s home somewhere near Queenscliff on December 17, 1967 when the news come on the radio about the prime minister Harold Holt who died while swimming at Portsea, Victoria.

Relaxing with Joan

Historic Hydro majestic Hotel A very sweet lady, we went out together for a few months.

Peter Clifford & Phillipa

Hydro majestic Hotel Peter also lived most of his life in London, I have a feeling he may have owned a pub somewhere near Marble Arch, sadly he passed away a couple of years ago after a long battle with cancer, RIP old buddy.

This oyster can be grown in various parts of France, but must have spent at least 28 days in the famous β€˜Claires’ to be called a Fine de Claire. The Fine de Claire oyster has a higher liquid content and a delicate salty taste.

Oysters Beach Club Pattaya, I’ll be a regular Tuesday customer.

Beach Club Pattaya Just looking at this photo makes my mouth water.

I have eaten oysters all over the world

Shuck more oysters please

To see the history of my affair with oysters from around the world please follow THIS LINK. Did you know that American and Italian researchers found they are rich in amino acids, which  trigger increased levels of sex hormones.

Art of desert Pattaya

August 2, 2020 by David Herd

Art of desert Pattaya

Art of desert

Art of desert Pattaya is a far more interesting subject to me than the Art of War for instance, written by Sun Tzu in the 5th century. For some excellent images of the Art of Desert here is a LINK on Pinterest.

The photo above was taken at the Pullman Hotel at Wongamat Beach.

Belgian waffles at Patrick’s Steakhouse

Art of desert

Many people in these troubled times of Covid-19 will feel they are living in their own winter of discontent, well to brighten up their day just check out some of my favourite deserts in beautiful downtown Pattaya. πŸ™‚

Great pancake at Leckerle

Art of desert

Researchers have found pancakes in the stomach of Otzi the Iceman, human remains dating back 5,300 years. In ancient Greece and Rome, pancakes were made from wheat flour, olive oil, honey, and curdled milk.

Magnificent Crème brûlée

Art of desert

France, England, and Spain all claim to be the country where crΓ¨me brΓ»lΓ©e had its origin. The first printed recipe for a dessert called crΓ¨me brΓ»lΓ©e is from the 1691.

A special from The Bistro at Soi Yamato 13/1.

Art of desert Tripadvisor rate this small restaurant very highly at #6 of 1,085 Restaurants in Pattaya

Mixture from the Mantra

Art of desert

Sadly the Mantra closed it’s doors in 2018, their Sunday buffet was the best I have ever seen anywhere in the world. Here is over a decade of dining on THIS LINK.

Mango & sticky rice

Art of desert

The iconic Thai desert needs no introduction, it’s simply wonderful.

Hollys Coffee

Art of desert

Without a doubt this is the best pancake I have ever eaten. πŸ™‚ This company was established in 1998 and opened Korea’s first espresso shop that year. Its shops offer espresso, coffee, tea, specialty coffee- and tea-based hot and cold drinks, a variety of pastries and other snacks and coffee supplies.

Banana pancake

Art of desert Pattaya Absolutely delicious & only B40, or $2 AUD.

The finished product

Art of desert Pattaya Surely must be the best value in Pattaya, or perhaps even the northern hemisphere.

Thanks for visiting my Art of desert Pattaya photo blog, I will certainly add more delights as I discover them.

Longhorn Steakhouse Pattaya

Longhorn Steakhouse Pattaya

Longhorn Steakhouse Pattaya

Longhorn Steakhouse Pattaya is located in the arcade off 2nd road opposite Mike shopping mall. In the same arcade you will find Patrick’s & the Beefeater.

Australian Ribeye

At Longhorn Steakhouse Pattaya this Australian Ribeye was extremely tender & tasty.

Guess who was celebrating his birthday?

Longhorn Steakhouse PattayaGuilty as charged. πŸ™‚

Creme Brulee is a favourite of mine.

Longhorn Steakhouse Pattaya

It was a toss up between this & the Tiramisu. Creme Brulee is a dessert consisting of a rich custard base topped with a texturally contrasting layer of hardened caramelized sugar. It is normally served slightly chilled; the heat from the caramelizing process tends to warm the top of the custard, while leaving the center cool. The custard base is traditionally flavored with vanilla in French cuisine or with cinnamon and lemon in Catalan cuisine, but can have other flavorings. It is sometimes garnished with fruit.

Toast Skagen, one of my all time favorites.

Longhorn Steakhouse

The Beefeater also offers Skagen. Toast Skagen is an appetizer and Swedish food. Consisting of two slices of toast, mayonnaise and many prawns. Sometimes crabs are used instead of shrimp. The name of the dish originated from Skagen in Denmark, but the dish is not very well-known and most popular in Sweden, which was created by the restaurant and chef from Stockholm Tore Wretman. He introduced the Toast Skagen … Wikipedia
