Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant

February 19, 2017 by David Herd

Sunday lunch at The Edge

Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant is a wonderful dining experience particularly on Sunday. It is in direct competition with the fabulous Mantra at the Amari hotel. Further on in this review I will endeavour to make comparisons between the two.

Fresh seafood

Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant Fresh seafood is of course the star of the show, however there are many more special offerings guaranteed to delight you.

An impressive choice of Oysters

Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant There are 4 or 5 variety to choose, mainly from France.

 My first course

Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant Oysters, crab, prawns, caviar & fresh white bread, I always find it difficult to get past the seafood counter. 🙂

Did I mention caviar?

Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant Certainly one of my favourite delicacies, salmon Roe.

 Lots of sushi & sashimi

photo Hilton Sunday buffet B1500 6.jpg As I said before, it’s hard to get past the fresh seafood. 🙂

Sushi

Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant Too much sushi is never enough. 🙂

I travel to Japan every year and the Hilton sushi is certainly high quality.

Outside seating

Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant

Catering for smokers & those who want to get closer to the view.

Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant

Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant A beautifully designed kitchen & restaurant.

Check out my review of the Hilton Sky Bar.

BBQ duck & ribs.

Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant Funnily enough the six baskets contain 6 different variety of Chinese buns, a little bit of overkill I feel. I would much prefer to see some Shumei & prawn dumplings similar to what’s on the menu at the Mantra.

BBQ seafood station

Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant You really need a big appetite to cope with this fabulous buffet.

 Hardworking chefs

Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant This is one of my favourite photos from Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant.

 Pizza

Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant No matter what you fancy it is all here. 🙂

The Bakery

Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant

The bread here is excellent.

An excellent cheese selection

Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant

Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant I was at Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant on Sunday February 19, & sadly I overindulged & could not fit in any cheese. 🙂

An amazing choice of deserts to finish.

Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant Put this great buffet on your list, & many thanks for visiting my Pattaya Hilton Buffet Edge Restaurant photo blog.

I have given a lot of thought to which is the best buffet, the Hilton (with the salmon caviar) or the Mantra (with the Alaskan crab), & the verdict is Mantra by a short 1/2 crab claw. 🙂

However I have noticed they now serve the clawless variety of Alaskan crab, please Mantra bring back the claws. 🙂

Explore Bangkok Chao Phraya river ferry

December 25, 2015 by David Herd

Up a lazy river

Explore Bangkok Chao Phraya river ferry Explore Bangkok Chao Phraya river ferry which takes you up the lazy river for only B150 for the whole day. It is a great way to see many of Bangkok’s wonderful landmarks. A ticket to Chinatown is only B40, get off at pier number 5 at Ratchawong and walk 10 minutes up the road.In the photo above you have The Peninsula Hotel on the left and the Shangri-La Hotel on the right.

Below the Taksin bridge is the Bangkok river ferry

Explore Bangkok Chao Phraya river ferry B40 to get to Chinatown from the Sathorn pier is a bargain.

 Bankok’s famous Long-tail boat

Explore Bangkok Chao Phraya river ferry The long-tail boat, known as Ruea Hang Yao is a type of watercraft native to Southeast Asia, which uses a common automotive engine as a readily available and maintainable power-plant. A craft designed to carry passengers on a river may include a lightweight long canoe hull, up to 30 meters, and a canopy. There is much variation among these boats, some have evolved from traditional craft types, while others have a more improvised look. The sole defining characteristic is a second-hand car or truck engine.

Cold beer in Chinatown

Explore Bangkok Chao Phraya river ferry The Bangkok river ferry got me to Chinatown along the mighty Chao Phraya river which is known as the River of Kings. It is the life blood of Bangkok, around 50,000 people use its ferries each day. Slow barges bearing cargo coast upstream, kids still frolic in the brown water. Wooden shacks, mottled by the elements, still hang over the water. Check out my photo blog here.

Soaring hotels and condominiums hem in solemn temples, churches and civic buildings that look 19th century European, while close by the odd wooden sampan sells noodle soup or dried squid to hungry river workers. It is this juxtaposition of calm and chaotic, modern and traditional, religious and secular, ugly and sublime, foreign and indigenous that makes the Chao Phraya so evocative. My thanks to Bangkok.com for their wonderful description of the River of Kings.

The Grand Palace in Bangkok.

Bangkok Grand PalaceThe Grand Palace  is a complex of buildings at the heart of Bangkok, Thailand. The palace has been the official residence of the Kings of Siam (and later Thailand) since 1782. The king, his court and his royal government were based on the grounds of the palace until 1925. The present monarch, King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), currently resides at Chitralada Palace, but the Grand Palace is still used for official events. Several royal ceremonies and state functions are held within the walls of the palace every year. The palace is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Thailand.

Super travel tips & information.

Hotel bookings. For the best deals in Asia, book now and you can choose to pay when you check out.

MBK is one of the best shopping centers in Bangkok, see the above photo, if you want to stay in a good hotel connected to the shopping mall then Pathumwan Princess Hotel is the place for you.

Pratunam market. If markets are more your thing you should stay at an older hotel, the Indra Regent which is across the road from Pratunam markets, which I think are the best in Bangkok. This is a major market selling clothes, shoes, and fashion accessories at wholesale prices. Enter the small alleys and jam-packed small streets and you will find yourself in the middle of a clothes-maze. Prices are very cheap, you may have to pay retail prices for single pieces.

Bumrumgrad hospital,  great place for all your health needs & checkups

Check out the best rooftop bars in Bangkok.

Bangkok taxis are very cheap, but avoid catching them from outside your hotel, walk up the street a little and always confirm the meter is on before you depart. Many drivers will try to charge an over the top fixed fare, politely decline, get out of the taxi and wait for another one. You can easily negotiate a 2 hour taxi trip to Pattaya for only 1000 Baht.

A Longtail boat river cruise is a great way to see Bangkok, the most popular choice for travelers is stating from the Central Pier at Sathorn (easily access from BTS at Taksin station) cruise to the north and get off at Tha Chang Pier (N 03 pier). The Grand palace wall is opposite to this pier. Views from this route are really fantastic. The fare is just 10 Bath.

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market 2 hours north of Bangkok is also a must do tour. Here is a nice little YouTube video of the market.

Please be very careful in Bangkok

This shocking incident took place on August 23 2013, don’t let it happen to you.

Two Thai policemen have been arrested and authorities were hunting for two others yesterday for allegedly kidnapping and extorting money from Italian tourists. The officers were arrested in Bangkok on Friday after Interpol lodged a complaint against them, the Bangkok Post newspaper reported yesterday.

Danillo de Vito, 51, and Antonio Di Muno, 62, were allegedly detained by four policemen last Monday, hours after they arrived in the kingdom on holiday, while withdrawing cash from an ATM, Metropolitan Police commander Suebsak Pansuri said. They were accused of using a fake ATM card, and told to pay 2 million baht ($64,515) for police to drop charges.

The Italians managed to reduce the amount by half and alerted their relatives in Italy to the scam when calling them to ask for the money. Their relatives alerted Italian police who passed on the complaint to Interpol. Police found the two Italians in a Bangkok motel on Tuesday, after they had already transferred the money to Thailand. The two men were unharmed.

Police have also arrested an Uzbekistani national, Muhiddin Sharipov, who acted as interpreter for the police officers, The Nation newspaper reported yesterday.

Bangkok travel tips & other posts I have on this great city I hope will help you enjoy this great city.

If you are in Pattaya and want to go to Hua Hin there is now a daily minivan service, they have offices in Pattaya, Hua Hin and Cha Am, for Hua Hin the mini van leaves at 18:00 and takes 4 hours to get to Hua Hin, priced at only 400baht.

The Pattaya office is on South Pattaya Road, if your heading towards Sukhumvit road go over 3rd Road and past Soi Ko Pai/ Soi Bongkot and it’s on the left hand side at soi 10, which is around 300 meters or more from Sukhumvit Road.

Jet Ski scammers

Jet ski scammers Along the Beach Road in Pattaya, often between Soi 10 and Soi 13/4 (entrance to Walking Street), Thai Jet Ski touts will approach the tourist. Most likely time to witness the scam unfolding would be between 5pm – 5:30pm as it is getting dark. Particularly outside Mike Shopping Mall, Royal Garden Plaza, and Soi 13/2 to Soi 13/4. The tourist is required to sign a contract with the Jet Ski operators before they board the Jet Ski and have their fun. Cost is around 700 baht ($20) for thirty minutes. When the tourist returns to the beach the Thai Jet Ski operator will board the Jet Ski and bring it up on to the beach. Here is where the scam starts, as they (theatrically and dramatically) point out the damage and demand that the tourist pay for it, typically ranging anywhere from 30,000 baht ($950) to 70,000 baht ($2,200), but it can be 100,000 baht ($3,180) and up. Of course this damage (deep scrapes on the underside of the Jet Ski, scratches to the paintwork, or a broken plastic bumper) has been there all the time. Often, if not most times, it is a group of tourists that are scammed. More people, more money.

If they use the version of the scam where the tourist boards the Jet Ski when it is already submerged in the water, thus hiding the damage that is already on the underside, the scammers don’t need to cover the damaged areas. The damage is revealed once they bring it on to the shore after the tourist has rented it. More government warnings etc here.

Be careful, you have been warned.

Pattaya Luxury Five Star hotels

Five Luxury Star hotels in Pattaya.

Siam @ SiamSiam @ Siam is a Five Star Hotel

Pattaya Luxury Five Star hotels overlooking Pattaya beach are The Amari, The Holiday Inn The Hilton & the Dusit. Amari has the nicest grounds & pool area + the magnificent Mantra restaurant, the Hilton is above an upmarket shopping mall & is the most central, Holiday Inn has the best pizzas, the Dusit in North Pattaya has the best Dim Sum. 😉

Excellent seafood buffet Friday & Saturday night. The Pullman is really a 3.5 star hotel in a 5 star location, &  should not be in my budget section.

The Dusit Hotel

Dusit Thani Pattaya

The luxury Dusit hotel is perched on the point at North Pattaya, lovely well kept gardens and loaded with old world charm. A special travel tip is to seek out the the Peak Chinese restaurant which is rather hard to find.  Perhaps that is why it is rarely crowded at lunch time when they serve the best Yum Cha in Pattaya. There is also a nice Italian restaurant called the Bay with views, you guessed it, overlooking the bay.  Book your hotel here for the guaranteed best price and choose when you wish to pay, now or when you check out. I also reviewed The Peak on TripAdvisor.

There are seven different kitchens offering food from all around the world. Cost is 1,700 Baht or $58, priceless.

However it is surprisingly good and so is the Cuban music. My apologies for the poor quality photo. I also put a review on TripAdvisor.

The Royal Cliff Hotel.

Royal Cliff Hotel For a luxury hotel away from the maddening crowd you can’t go past the Royal Cliff. An elevator will take you down to Cosy beach where the water is clean and you can enjoy a massage on the beach. This is where I stayed on my first visit to Pattaya in 1980. This is definitely a five star hotel.

The Royal Cliff Hotel.

Royal Cliff Hotel The Royal Cliff is certainly on of Pattaya’s best hotels, very popular for conventions and has great ocean views. An elevator takes you down to Breezes restaurant and Cosy Beach. A little bit away from downtown Pattaya which many people prefer.

For 3000 Baht or $90 usd, which sadly is now $104 aud, you get 2 18 hole rounds of golf on the magnificent Kabinburi Sport Club which proudly boasts of being the longest course in Thailand. Add to that one nights accommodation & breakfast included, makes this the best value golf package in Thailand. If that was not enough the three of us were all upgraded to a wonderful one bedroom suite which is the best hotel accommodation I have ever seen anywhere in the country.

Best Pattaya restaurants

Great food in Pattaya

best Pattaya restaurants

Best Pattaya restaurants? Pattaya has thousands of them, if you are looking for good food there are some super restaurants, I will try to offer you some advice on where you should go for some excellent dining experiences. Pattaya also has  a “sin city” reputation which began when it was an R & R stopover for American troops during the Vietnam war. It’s come a long way since then, now only a 90 minute taxi ride from the airport the city has an enormous amount to offer tourists & travelers. Of course the seedy side still exists but it’s not compulsory anymore.  😳

 Pattaya Hilton

Hilton Pattaya From the Pattaya Hilton, there is no better place to relax with a cocktail.  There is a daily buffet at the Edge restaurant, great value Monday to Friday, 400 Baht or $12. Price at night is about double. More expensive Saturday & Sunday however there is more to choose from. Sunday brunch is 1200 Baht, if you want free flow wine add another 600 Baht.

On the 34th floor is Horizons is certainly among the Best Pattaya restaurants, it has magnificent views of Pattaya and the bay, fine dining at its best, make sure you have your credit card ready as it’s rather expensive. Check out this lovely lady making desert for us.

Horizons at the Hilton

Pattaya Hilton HorizonsHorizons is certainly a five star restaurant with very good expensive food and an incredible view of Pattaya.

Horizons at the Hilton

One of the best views of Pattaya from here.

Mantra at the Amari Hotel.

best Pattaya restaurants

The Mantra at the Amari hotel is my favorite restaurant. The Sunday brunch is magnificent, cost is 1700 Baht and well worth it, sample food from the 7 different kitchens.  Oysters from France, Alaskan crab, New Zealand lamb cutlets, the best baked leg ham I have ever tasted, mouth watering Peking duck rolls, free sake from the sushi bar, etc etc etcOpen 7 nights for ala carte, just go there! When I talk about best Pattaya restaurants this is my number one.

Magnificent Mantra

My ony concern is the prices keep going up & up.

Best Pattaya restaurants, Mantra is number one.

Ruffino at Centara Grand Phratamnak

best Pattaya restaurantsRuffino is a small Italian restaurant on the 9th floor of Centara Grand Phratamnak, beautiful decor with an interesting menu.

Some good food, some average.

Ruffino at PattayaIt is early days at Ruffino so I imagine they are still finding their feet. My chick pea soup with shrimps was terrific however I was a little disappointed in my main course. The small serving of 3 prawns was on a bed of  croutons which were very dry. (The mashed potatoes were great) Perhaps they should add 2 more prawns and try a new base. On the plus side the complimentary Tiramisu was fantastic.

Dining in a car park.

best Pattaya restaurantsGreat value Thai food here, average cost for dinner or lunch 200 Baht or $6. Next to the Alcazar carpark in 2nd road North Pattaya, opposite Soi 4, if you see a tall beautiful Thai woman here I can guarantee it is a ladyboy.

La Ferme

La Ferme PattayaLa Ferme is an interesting restaurant which is Part of the Woodlands hotel in Naklua Rd near the Dolphin roundabout in North Pattaya.  Upmarket decor and reasonably priced food, they specialise in Chicken which the name suggests. My favourite is the Honey Glazed Chicken with pepper sauce, only 350 Baht or $10.  My only criticism is they overcharge for a glass of house wine, 150 Baht for a half measure. It’s a shame they are so mean with the wine because the food prices are good value. You are better off buying a bottle of Chile wine for 1100 Baht, pour it yourself because they will try to push you to finish hoping they can sell you another bottle. 🙁

The Beach Club
Beach Club Pullman

The best bar on the beach at Pattaya is actually at Wongamat which is just north of Pattaya. It is in The Beach Club at the Pullman hotel and has a 2 hour happy hour every day at 5pm. Cocktails are 110 Baht or $3.30, the same drink would cost you $15 to $20 in most parts of the world. Nice Tapas selection at The Beach Club.

Excellent snacks

best Pattaya restaurants

An added attraction is usually there will be a few beautiful Russian ladies walking past in their tiny bikinis.  😳

Cafe des Amis

Cafe des AmisCafe des Amis has been on my list for too long so I finally tried it out and was not disappointed. They offer a nice outdoor area to sit and a good well stocked bar inside. Excellent staff, good food & a warm inviting atmosphere.

Cafe des Amis

Cafe des AmisThe cafe is only a short distance from the well known Mata Hari, des Amis is less formal with a more relaxing environment. The owner or manager is a friendly Londoner who goes by the name of Blue, he generously bought me a Frangelico nightcap.

Fraser’s hamburger

best Pattaya restaurantsThis new sports bar in Chateau Dale Complex, Thappraya Rd. Jomtien has an excellent menu with very good low price food. Lots of TV screens for the sports lovers and a playground for the kids.

 Holiday home exchange anybody?

Pattaya house swap If you are of visiting Thailand a house swap may suit you. My apartment is small but in a fantastic position across the road from the beach. I’m on the 17th floor with a stunning view. There is a restaurant on the 27th floor and a nice swimming pool, my building is between the new Hilton Hotel and the Holiday inn. I am interested in an exchange anytime after june 2014 would be fine. Europe, North America, Australia, or in fact anywhere that is interesting. Previously I have swapped homes with people from France, Italy, Japan & Bali.

Mata Hari

best Pattaya restaurants Mata Hari is a very stylish upmarket restaurant serving excellent European & Thai cuisine. A very popular spot for the locals, impeccable service, great food & upmarket decor, yet reasonably priced all things considered. I would certainly rate it in the top 6 restaurants in Pattaya. Louis is your friendly host, check out the website here. Mata Hari certainly is one of the best Pattaya restaurants.

MING XING RESTAURANT at Cape Dara hotel

Toscana Italian Restaurant.
Toscana Italian restaurant

This beautifully designed Italian restaurant is huge, I imagine inside & out it can probably seat 600 people. There are 3 separate indoor areas (one for Thai food) plus a large outdoor area nestled in the garden. Situated in the middle of  Beach rd just south of Soi 6. The food and service are very good & there is a large wine list on offer. Which leads me to my only criticism, (sorry Luca) the wine is rather expensive and he only offers Italian wine. Ok, I know it is an Italian restaurant, and I know Italian wine holds the largest % of world wine sales, however it would be nice to have some varieties from other countries such as Chile & Australia. With Chile wine on the list he could probably offer it at a more reasonable price, 120 Baht a glass would be nice.  😀

Meet Luca the friendly host

David Herd Luka Toscana

Here I am with  the charismatic owner of Toscana, Luca hails from Pisa in Italy and prides himself of growing, breeding and producing a large % of food served in his restaurant. He has a large farm on the outskirts of Pattaya and he divides his time between the farm & the restaurant. The great pizza below is one of my favorite choices.

Palma ham, double cheese & anchovies, YUM!

Skagen at Beefeater

best Pattaya restaurants

The Beefeater is on the corner of 2nd rd & Soi Diana opposite the car park at Mike shopping center. They serve Australian beef and offer many choices of steak in various sizes. The owner/chef is Scandinavian consequently one of my favourite dishes is on the menu, toast Skagen. The reason I show two servings is simple, I like it so much I often order two.  😀

One Aussie & four Pommies

Gulliver's PattayaHere we are at Gulliver’s in January 2013, I am the only Australian outnumbered by four mad Englishmen. However looking at the Ashes being played in Australia as I am writing this post, it would appear one Aussie = four Pommies.  😆

Great value at Foodland

best Pattaya restaurants

Foodland is a well known supermarket chain in Thailand, in each store you will find an excellent fast food counter. The quality is excellent, the food is always fresh because of the turnover, (it is always crowded) and the price is so cheap, for instance breakfast is about $3, and lunch under $4.

Oysters in Walking st.

 Beer Garden near Walking St

best Pattaya restaurantsThe Beer Garden offers good low cost food with a wonderful view of Pattaya Bay, a great spot to dine before hitting the bright lights of Walking Street. To find the entrance you must walk past all the bars near the kick boxing. Certainly not one of the best Pattaya restaurants, but good value at a low price.

Pattaya has many terrific coffee shops.

La Baguette in Naklua rd near Dolphin roundabout. photo bcbd2915-ecbc-4d08-9fee-26604ec12fa8.jpg La Baquette in Naklua Rd near the Dolphin roundabout is my number 1 pick. The best croissants in Pattaya. Lots of delicious cakes & bread. Au Bon Pain is very good I have breakfast there 3 times a week, good coffee, bagels & croissants.  Coffee World in Big C I visit nearly every day, good coffee & cakes + free wi-fi. Branches everywhere. Boncafe in Naklua rd is a great place, I like it for breakfast & go there every week. Starbucks is Starbucks, what can I say? Lots of them in Pattaya & always  good.
