Mum Aroi Pattaya Seafood

Mum Aroi Pattaya Seafood Restaurant is on the waterfront in Naklua. At low tide the view is not very attractive & the restaurant itself resembles a large barn. Put all that aside & just enjoy the fabulous fresh seafood & quick efficient service.

A big tin shed

The customers who regularly eat here would be 95% Thai, mainly because tourists would never walk past or hear about it.

Either catch a Baht bus from the Dolphin roundabout or just hire a taxi. Believe me it’s worth the effort.

What about the food you ask?

Fresh, reasonably priced & lots to choose from.

Delicious, in Australia we call them pippies.

Prawns cooked to perfection

Fresh & cooked to perfection.

Why are they are so fresh?

Shortly before they arrive at your table they are happily swimming around without a care in the world. 🙂

Salted fish, a Thai specialty.

Thai’s have mastered salted fish, one of their many terrific dishes.

Being an amateur camera enthusiast I’m more than happy with the low tide mudflats of Naklua, it provides so many more photo opportunities.

Can you imagine the “for sale” sign?

That’s my late great friend Larry Krausz who sadly passed away in January 2017 after suffering a major stroke. We were friends for nearly 30 years & I think of him often.

Always a battle to eat but well worth the fight. 🙂

Not attractive at low tide

However the food is so good you won’t even notice the mud flats.

Retox Sports Bar Pattaya has more TV screens showing sport from all over the world than any other bar in Pattaya.

No smoking section

Thankfully 1/3 of the huge bar is non smoking so this suits me fine.

Still non smoking

This is the other end of the non smoking section, the service is always good just ring the bell & a girl comes running.

Did I mention the service? 🙂

Sometimes these bikini babes can effect your concentration on the sport. 🙂

Great value breakfast

This is their “small breakfast,” excellent value at B95 or $3.70 AUD.

Hamish & I at Retox

We had AFL one one channel, Rugby League on another & England versus Australia in cricket on another. 🙂

Soi Honey is actually Soi 11 & Retox has one entrance there and another on Soi 10.

As you can imagine it is one of the biggest sports bars in Pattaya.

Lots of choices at reasonable prices, both western & Thai food.

Lots of sport, good food & service.

Retox Sports Bar Pattaya is the total package for sports fans & those who like good pub food at reasonable prices.

Renovated Shopping Mall

Central Marina Shopping Mall

Central Marina Shopping Mall is only five minutes from where I live so I am often there enjoying Starbucks or the many good restaurants.

Sichuan Restaurant

This is one of the many exotic restaurants at Central Marina Pattaya Shopping Mall.

Delicious food

Reasonably priced & a little bit spicy as you can imagine. 🙂

The biggest problem is deciding where to eat, there are just so many choices.

I really like the hamburgers here.

Lots of choices between Thai or imported beef & totally delicious. 🙂

Thai cheeseburger

The cheeseburger is usually my choice, I really need to try some of the other varieties.

Strike up the band

Most nights this band seems to be entertaining the customers.

Mango & sticky rice

Always after a hamburger I must have this magnificent Thai delicacy.

Fancy food trucks

Mobile pop up restaurants add some colour & movement to the Marina forecourt.

Welcome sign is like a lighthouse.

I often wonder why they call the mall Central Marina as it’s 500 meters from Pattaya Bay. 🙂

MK Restaurant

Without a doubt MK is one of best Pattaya restaurants for value with a great selection of food.

Dim Sum

The dim sum is my favorite closely followed by their roast duck & BBQ pork. My bill is usually under B400 or $15 aud. Take a look at their menu here.

Huge chandelier

Quite spectacular hanging from the high ceiling in the front section of the mall.

Sushi Hina

One of the many Japanese restaurants at the Central Marina Shopping Mall, along with Korean & Chinese.

There is even a Playboy Cafe

One of the first in a chain being opened in Thailand. Didn’t last too long though, closed it’s doors around August 2018.

Fuji returns.

It has not operated there since before the major renovations took place in 2017. Check it out on THIS LINK.

Low cost food everywhere.

Lots of low cost food at Central Marina Shopping Mall.

Another good Japanese restaurant.

Yayoi serves an excellent Sukiyaki with either beef or pork for around B320 or $14b AUD.

Japanese is certainly the dominant cuisine at Central Marina Pattaya Shopping Mall.

Another favorite has re-opened at Central Marina

At Hachiban Ramen, the Gyoza & Teriyaki chicken are to die for, only 153 Baht for the two, priceless. There is another branch on the ground floor of Tukcom at the rear & one at Central Festival.

Sadly due to Covid-19 Hachiban Ramen closed July 2021. Glad to say it has re-openned on the ground floor adjacent to MK in January 2022.

Great food & lots of staff.

I regularly dine here at least twice a week.

Next door is Swensens

This is a real trap for me, after Hachiban I usually have a scoop of macadamia ice cream with caramel flavouring. 🙂

Sadly due to Covid-19 Swensen’s has closed July 2021.

As you can imaging it sometimes gets a little noisy. 🙂

The bird is the word….

Lots of things to entertain kids at Central Marina Pattaya Shopping Mall.

Skechers have arrived October 2018.

I have 6 pairs of these fabulous shoes.

I couldn’t resist the opening specials.

So I bought 3 pairs for B3,750 or $160 AUD. In reality this relates to 3 pair for the price of one.

Right opposite is Honey 2 massage.

So just send the missus shopping while you enjoy a soapy massage. 🙂 🙂 🙂

That’s if you don’t object to 90% of customers being from India. 🙂

That’s why I always recommend my friends go to the one opposite the Atlantic bar.

Pirate Chambre Excellent Bangkok Restaurant at Chit Lom, a little hard to find the restaurant’s entrance located on the 3rd floor of the Maneeya Centre building, which directly links to BTS Chit Lom at the Siam end.

Walk down the narrow stairs & through the bar into the beautiful restaurant.

Excellent decor

I really like the fact the tables are not too close together which certainly improves the atmosphere.

Baked seafood entree

This tasty dish is prepared and served in a traditional snail serving tray.

This is a superb dish beautiful served

This superb entree featured morsels of French mussels, clams & prawns, flavoured & baked with herb butter, cheddar, Parmesan cheese and breadcrumbs.

If you lean closer to the screen I’m sure you will be able to smell the garlic. 🙂

An important message

This really is the best advice I can give you. 🙂

Beef Ribs

Another dish cooked perfectly was the bone-in braised beef short rib in red wine sauce (750 baht), slow-cooked until the meat became soft and fell off the bone, yet still retained a pleasant chewy texture. Notice the packet of baked garlic which was very tasty indeed.

A choice of vegetables

Choose the vegetables that you prefer with your ribs.

Here is my favourite main course

The slow cooked lamb shank is absolutely delicious.

Anyone for cake?

It would not be a proper Italian restaurant without cake. 🙂

In Bangkok you must visit some of the wonderful sky bars.

Popular Pattaya Steak Restaurants I’m highlighting all offer excellent Australian export quality beef as well as some other delightfull dishes. Above is the Beefeater located on Soi Diana near 2nd Road in Pattaya. You can enter the restaurant from directly from Soi Diana Inn, or from the Central Shopping Arcade off 2nd Road (across from Mike Shopping Mall). Phone Number: 038-720-926.

Fillet Steak – ranging from 150g to 400g

One of the things I like about Beefeater is the fact they offer fillet steak in a multiple of sizes so you can order to suit your appetite.

The Beefeater owner/chef hails from Scandinavia which is a bonus for me as toast skagen is one of my favourite entres, in fact I sometimes drop in for lunch on the weekend & order two. 🙂

I rate Beefeater 4 Stars.

Patrick’s Belgium Steakhouse

Terrific restaurant in an arcade opposite the Beefeater. Excellent Aussie steaks and the best Oxtail soup in Pattaya. I’m with Greg Clee and Hamish Elton.

Patricks

The steak is always excellent, the only downside is they overcharge for wine. I personally think the steaks here are better than the Beefeater, however one litre of house wine is grossly overpriced at B1200, compared to B700 at Beefeater.

Always a delight & difficult to choose between the crepe & the Belgium waffles. 🙂

I also rate Patricks 4 stars.

Steak & Co Soi Lenkee

Only a 10 minutes walk from Patricks & the Beefeater, straight up So Diana, across Soi Buakaow into Soi Lengkee.

Steak & Co

I assure you you will search for a long time in Pattaya to find a better steak. Aussie prime beef cooked to perfection. They serve only the finest improted Australian Black Angus, Wagyu and USDA Prime Beef. Also a wide selection of Wines, Imported or Craft beer to accompany your meal.

Soi Buakaow just turn into Soi Lengkee.

I rate Steak & Co 5 stars.

Siamese Cuisine in Naklua Road

Opposite Woodlands about 200 metres from the Dolphin roundabout this excellent restaurant serves a very good steak as well as many other dishes.

Soi 8 Pattaya Hotels Bars Babes, the narrow street runs from Beach Road as you can see in the photo, to 2nd Road. A couple of small alleys run through to Soi 7 which is close by.

Burger King on Beach Rd

Burgher King has just opened in April 2017 & is located on Beach Rd between Soi 8 & Soi 7.

Looking west towards the beach.

The main difference between Soi 7 & 8 are the many hotels in 8, Soi 7 has more bars & pubs. Both Soi’s are right among the action, it’s probably wise to stay in Soi 8 which may be slightly quieter than 7. 🙂

Sunshine Hotel & Residences

Rooms for around B1100 or $32 usd, rated 72 out of 444 hotels in Pattaya by TripAdvisor. For an excellent room rate just book through THIS LINK.

Rolling Live is the place for good music.

Rolling Live is a chain of live music bars throughout Pattaya, where customers can enjoy a selection of live music and rock music classics.

Patsy Beer Bar

One of the popular Soi 8 beer bars where you can sit & watch the passing parade.

Small lane between 8 & 7.

Here is a shortcut between the two Sois, there are some bars in case you get thirsty. 🙂

Sunbeam Hotel Pattaya is opposite the bars.

A little more expensive with a nice pool, you will get a room for around B1700 or $49 usd if you book through THIS LINK.

The Ant Bar is an interesting name. 🙂

Lets hope there are no angry ants there. 🙂

Pattaya Beach Road Seafood Festival

Pattaya Beach Road Seafood Festival is one of the annual promotions promoting food & tourism in this fun city by the sea.

The organizers go to quite a lot of effort setting up this event.

I made one mistake, I didn’t bring any wine & they were not serving alcohol. 🙂

Soi 7 Pattaya Pubs Bars Babes along with it’s neighbour Soi 8 is one of Pattaya’s most popular drinking, eating & partying areas. Above is the corner of Soi 7 & Beach Rd.

I was waiting for the Silver Star lady to yell out “HELLO WELCOME” which is heard nearly every time you walk past a Pattaya bar. 🙂

Olala bar & restaurant

Above is Ola la specializing in Norwegian and Thai food.

Breakfast at Olala.

They claim on their website to offer the beat breakfast in Pattaya which I strongly dispute. It’s no better or worse than many other Thai style bacon sausages & eggs. The eggs were excellent, the bacon average & the typical Thai sausages I didn’t eat. The cost was B145 including toast, jam, tea or coffee.

Eastiny Bella Vista

Located just behind Olala on the side road to Soi 8. Rooms here are around $25 per night if you book through THIS LINK.

Shower B20 & toilet B5. 🙂

What a bargain, especially if you have just come off the beach.

Pattaya Goods Services Directory hopefully will help you find some essential services in this city. It can be difficult to know who is good and who is average. I have a few of suggestions I can personally recommend which hopefully will save you some time.

The dentist you see in the header of this post is Dr Tapasat who can be found opposite the Dolphin roundabout. He trained and worked in the U.S.A for 20 years and speaks perfect English. He takes time to talk to you and clearly explains the procedures and alternatives.

They are currently moving to new premises close to the corner of Pattaya Nua & 3rd rd. Call 038 362 095 for details.

Dental Loft

Many of my friends from Australia use Dental Loft, their prices are very competitive. In November 2019 a friend had these procedures, 1 x Implant – 1 x Root canal – 2 x removals and a complete clean which took 2 hours’ worth of grinding, price B55,000 or $2,640 AUD. He says the average price in Sydney for an implant ranges between $3,500 – $5,000.

Pattaya clinic offers good value

Clinic Lifecare Pattaya located 40 meters off 3rd road not far from Tony’s gym at 247/59 Moo 10, Sai 3 Road. They are offering a special at B999 for the standard blood tests. I added a further test for PSA which added B600.

The clinic was clean and efficient with friendly staff. I arrived at 7.45 am and was the first customer. The results were e-mailed to me at noon the same day.

Dr Somsak 2nd Rd North Pattaya

Open 6 days at 9.30 am, a very nice Thai doctor who will charge you B100 for the visit.

300 meters north of Pattaya Klang.

This morning the consultaion & 1 month supply of tablets was B300, or $14.40 AUD, you gotta love Pattaya.

About 250 metres from Pattaya Klang.

Locksmith

After phoning Pattaya keys and safes at 10 am and the Thai owner said he would replace 2 door locks for me between 2 and 3 pm that same day. At 2.30 he called to say he would arrive in 30 minutes and he did. Within 30 minutes both locks were fitted and spare keys handed over for a cost of B1,800.
