Mae Pim fabulous food was high on our list when my brother & I took some Australian friends to this quiet little seaside village 90 minutes east of Pattaya. The 3 days & 4 nights had the feel of an eating odyssey centred mainly around the Tequila Sunrise bar & restaurant. There is an international team, a Swiss owner, Peter the German chef, Gary an Australian manager & some very nice Thai staff who run this popular establishment. We had lunch there 3 times, dinner once and cocktails every evening. Above is Swedish Skagen at Tequila Sunrise

Skagen is one of my favourite dishes, here is Jamie Oliver’s recipe.

Swedish smoked salmon

My good friend Tony Murphy rated this beautiful salmon 10/10 at Tequila Sunrise.

Here is Murph doing his best to imitate a rather dour Swede as a salute to this fabulous salmon dish.

 Bratwurst at Tequila Sunrise

Naturally with a German chef you would expect bratwurst to be on the menu. 🙂 However let’s not forget the mash potato which was excellent.

Chris Lockwood aka Dr Evil

Dr Evil & Nikki Murphy fell in love with the Pina Coladas at Tequila Sunrise. Chris has just completed a terrific South American trip, read his hilarious blog, just follow THIS LINK.

Here is a Pina Colada recipe.

This was certainly worth a photo, another excellent dish at Tequila Sunrise.

Peter the talented chef at Tequila Sunrise

Mae Pim fabulous food

Peter was a chef at the Hard Rock Hotel in Pattaya until he saw the light and moved to Mae Pim. Now nothing short of an atomic bomb will get him to move anywhere else. Originally from Hamburg in Germany, he returned home for 2 weeks in May 2016, after 33 years this was his only visit. After speaking with him I’m guessing it may be his last trip home. 🙂

Up to now it seems like Tequila Sunrise is the only place we ate at, however there were a couple of other places. Here is my Tequila Sunrise photo blog from February.

One of the many Mae Pim seafood restaurants, lots of live product on offer at very reasonable prices. Above is their Prawn & Vermicelli which was absolutely delicious.

 Next door to Tequila Sunrise

Mae Pim fabulous food

Sadly I didn’t get the restaurant name, however it was right next door to Tequila Sunrise, food was very good as was the beautiful breeze coming off the gulf of Thailand. My brother Warren enjoyed his fried squid in yellow curry with fried rice.

Chris also enjoyed his spicy Tom Yum seafood soup

All the dishes here were good and the price very reasonable.

 Wednesday special

Mae Pim fabulous food

The Wednesday special at Tequila Sunrise is the enormous double schnitzel for only B159 which is a bargain. Here is my friend Larry Krausz who was born in Australia so I guess he was raised on schnitzels. 🙂

Larry & I were here in February 2016 and I couldn’t wait to return.

Larry Krausz wasa friend for around 30 years, sadly he suffered a major stroke on October 28 2016. After 2 months in the Bangkok Pattaya hospital on life support he was transported to Australia by a hospital Leer jet, thanks to his Medibank travel insurance. After a further month his life support was removed & he passed away peacefully.

I rest my case

My history, particularly over the last 30 years is dominated by overseas travel. I sold my home in Australia October 20th 2011 and have have been living in Thailand since then. I don’t know where the time has gone? It seems like you go to sleep one night, wake up the next morning, and 20 years have flashed by. Not sure how many years I have left, however I have enjoyed a wonderful charmed life, and if it all ended today I would leave this world with no regrets. I was born in Sydney halfway through the last century, started my travels in the 60s with the usual U.K. Europe adventure at the age of 20, back to Australia and worked in Sydney, Melbourne & Adelaide in Sales & Marketing with multinational companies including Sanyo, Canon & Remington. Engaged to be married 3 times and never quite made it to the alter, finally realized by the mid 90s I was not cut out for "long term relationships" so I moved to the Gold Coast in Queensland in January 1987, worked for a couple of banks as a Financial Planner, I took a year off work in 1998 to travel and never went back to full time work again, after 25 fun filled years on the Coast I packed up and moved to Thailand. What is the purpose of this blog? Well I really want to use it to record my travel experiences & to display my photographs, give and receive travel tips, comment on places I visit, restaurants I eat in and use it to replace the autobiography I intended to write, apart from all that it helps me fill in my day. :) I moved to Thailand mainly because I wanted to keep travelling while my health allowed me to, there are huge advantages being closer to all the places I want to visit. Cost of living in Thailand is around 35% of the cost in Australia, plus flights are 50% cheaper because you are much closer to everywhere. ???? Consequently I am able to travel to many more places compared to living in Australia. Having said all that, it is & has always been my intention to return to Australia when my travelling is finished, I predict this will happen around 2021.
