Novotel Bangkok Platinum Pratunam

Novotel Bangkok Platinum Pratunam Bangkok Hotels Petchaburi Rd are surrounded by some of the best shopping in this great city. Everybody knows about Pratunam markets where you can buy clothes and accessories at rock bottom prices, now however there is much more competition at places like Palladium World and Platinum Fashion Mall which offer air conditioned comfort which you certainly don’t get at Pratunam markets.

For an excellent room rate at the Novotel Bangkok Platinum book through THIS LINK.

GLOW Pratunam Bangkok Hotels Petchaburi

Pantip Plaza

Bangkok Hotels Petchaburi Several floors of hardware and software, I have been shopping here for 20 years.

 Pantip Plaza

Bangkok Hotels Petchaburi

Computer and camera shops are located on the 3rd floor, as well as hardware, RAM etc for sale. Some shops specialize in building computers to your specifications. The fourth floor has more computer and repair shops.

Platinum Fashion Mall

Bangkok Hotels Petchaburi Platinum is a 5 billion Baht shopping mall in Petchaburi Rd Pratunam, almost next door to Pantip Plaza, which specializes in fashion clothes and accessories both retail and wholesale.

Baiyoke Sky Hotel

Bangkok Hotels Petchaburi Baiyoke Sky Hotel was built in 1997 and is the 2nd highest building in Bangkok. For an excellent room rate book through THIS LINK.

I took this photo from the Red Sky bar above Central, on the right is the Novotel and Palladium World Shopping mall.

Amari Watergate Hotel

Bangkok Hotels Petchaburi

The Amari Watergate hotel is a reasonably priced hotel in the middle of this shopping district, book through THIS LINK and you will get a discounted room for around $88 + tax.

Palladium World Shopping mall.

Bangkok Hotels Petchaburi

Located on the corner of Phetchaburi Road and Ratchaprarop with the 3 gold domes, I believe it’s bigger and cheaper than Platinum Fashion Mall and has a bazaar type layout featuring long alleyways of tightly packed stalls.

Palladium World from street level

Bangkok Hotels Petchaburi It certainly does not look as spectacular as it does from the Red Sky Bar.

Bangkok budget hotels

Budget hotels near Sukhumvit

Bangkok budget hotels Bangkok budget hotels are very good value in the Sukhumvit area. I place these hotels in the under B2000 category, which is under $60 USD.  The photo above is on Sukhumvit close to Soi 4 Nana.

Without a doubt AGODA is the best online Hotel booking site.

Lets check out the Dynasty Inn.

Bangkok budget hotels

The Dynasty Inn is in Sukhumvit  Soi 4 Nana, a few meters from the infamous Nana Plaza. I can highly recommend this 2.5 star hotel because I have stayed there probably 50 times in the last 20 years. For lots of information regarding Nana Plaza  check out my blog. Phone +66 2 656 8010 and ask for Miss Lee, tell her David Herd sent you and I’m sure you will be looked after. Room costs are between 1,500 & 2,000 Baht.

Dynasty Grande

Bangkok budget hotelsJust around the corner at 21 Soi Sukhumvit 6, Sukhumvit Rd is the more upmarket Dynasty Grande, very good large rooms, I would rate it 3 to 3.5 stars. Rooms are around 3,000 Baht per night or $100. Bear in mind that is the same rate at Centre Point in Silom which is a much better hotel. The Dynasty however is a good choice for those who can’t resist the lure of Nana Plaza. If you use this link you can sometimes get a room for B2000.

Citadines hotel is a great location in Soi 11 Sukhumvit to stay in Bangkok, right in the middle of the action. Mulligans 24 hour Irish pub is on the ground floor.

Nana Plaza area is good for Bangkok budget hotels

Bangkok budget hotels On the ground floor are mostly open-air beer bars to choose from. Girls will try to tempt you in for a drink or a game of Jenga but not much really happens here, however it is where I prefer to drink and watch the passing parade.  The shows and the A Go Go Bars with naughty names like Lollipop,Pretty Lady and Red Lips are located on the first floor.  Girls here will step into your path and will try to drag you in for a look.

Breakfast at JW Marriott

David Herd Thailand

JW Marriott hotel Bangkok is at Soi 2 Sukhumvit, a short walk to both Ploenchit & Nana station. It’s a luxury five star hotel with some wonderful restaurants. My friend Tony Murphy and I enjoy a very good breakfast in the Bangkok Baking Company. There is another Marriott worth visiting in Soi 57 Sukhumvit, have a cocktail at the wonderful roof bar 48 floors above the ground.

Centre Point Silom Hotel

Centre Point Silom HotelBangkok Hotels, there are thousands of them, however I stayed at Centre Point  just last week and was very happy with the whole package.  My room was huge with a great city view and a full kitchen including a washing machine. In fact it was more like an apartment.

Another bonus is you can enter Robinson Shopping mall direct from the hotel.

Four minutes walk to the Saphan Taksin Skytrain, 5 minutes to the main ferry wharf at Sathorn (Central Pier).

Staying at Lebua gives you the advantage of having Sirocco on the top floor and Breeze on the 53rd floor.

Great shopping at MBK.

MBK BangkokIf you are in Bangkok to shop, and who isn’t? Then MBK should be high on your list. There are two hotels to consider which are very close to the shops. Pathumwan Princess Hotel actually forms part of MBK so you leave your room & enter the shopping center. The other hotel across the road is the Ibis or Mercure, a little less expensive than Pathumwan Princess, but it will take you 5 minutes longer to get to the shops.  😆

Sirocco at the State Tower

Sirocco State tower

Bangkok restaurant reviews,  I guess I’m allowed to call myself a Bon Vivant  given my obsession with eating out at good restaurants. Lets start with the most spectacular restaurant in the whole city. The view from the Sky bar at Sirocco is amazing, the restaurant is very popular with the trendy Bangkok crowd, the food is good but the price is ridiculously high.

Shangri-La Buffet

Shangri-La Buffet

The 5 star Shangri-La hotel on the river has several restaurants to choose from. I found the best value was their incredible buffet featuring Sushi, Alaskan crab, shrimp, Dim Sum, soups, B-B-Q & a terrific selection of deserts. Free flow wine & beer was included for 2,250 Baht or $77 AUD.

There was a nice surprise when I paid the bill,  received a 15% discount for using my Platinum Visa card. So the price came down to $65. Considering I had 5 glasses of wine from Chile, it was super deal.

Oxtail stew at Bus Stop in Bangkok restaurant reviews

Bangkok restaurants reviewsFor over 10 years I have been going to the Bus Stop in Sukhumvit Soi 4 to have their Oxtail stew. I spent 3 days in Bangkok last week and managed to have it twice for lunch even though the price has almost doubled in 4 years, it is still only 350 Baht or $10 AUD.

I introduced a guy & he is also hooked.

Bangkok restaurant reviewsHere is my ex friend John Martin AKA Pothole at the Bus stop Sukhumvit Soi 4 Nana.

I had an unhappy experience at the Bust Stop in Soi 4 Nana in Bangkok 2 weeks ago. For many years I have been ordering the oxtail stew which is fantastic, lunch on the Thursday was excellent, then I returned for dinner on Friday night and they only served 2 pieces of oxtail instead of the normal 3. I complained as the price of B350 remained the same, well the chef was quite rude and unhelpful and refused to make it right, so I paid for my wine and left. After around 16 years of enjoying this great dish I guess it is time for a break, just saying………
